Sooo after spending a little over a year traveling from place to place in our overlanding rig, we finally decided that it was time for us to change it up and get a van! In this video, we wanted to share our experience with our rooftop tent setup, and explain why we bought a van instead - and talk about who might benefit from rooftop tent vs #vanlife, or vice versa. We hope this is helpful for you all and we’re looking forward to spending many new adventures in the ol’ 1997 Dodge Ram:)

All of the details coming soon but just know... we're going to be doing some pretty wild, and new (to us) activities! Can't wait to see you guys out there :)
New Van, Who Dis?! 🤣 Thanks for watching friends. Don't forget to fill out the survey so we can get some travel plans going!
We got "a van" is an understatement!
I haven't even watched the video yet, yet I feel like I should leave a comment not only to show my support but also to let you guys know that I know your video is going to be amazing as always!! ❤️🔥
Ha well... This one is a little different but hope ya like it!
@@codyandvictoria I sure did. Looking forward to your next adventures and fingers crossed to see your van’s debut sometime soon 🤞
The safety of a hard sided sleeping space is such a good feeling. One less thing to worry about when you're way out there.
That is awesome guys! Vanlife is the way to go. I'm excited to see your conversion. Yup van life is on my bucket list too. I'll check out the survey. Thanks for the videos! Good stuff
So rad! Been eyeballing a van myself, can’t wait to see your van life adventures!!
You guys are awesome! Enjoy the adventures in the new van :)
You guys are awesome and super inspiring! Honestly there is no other channel I look forward to watching more than yours. Thanks for sharing your passions so well. Excited to see all your new adventures with the van!
I've been looking at these old Dodge vans!! So sweet
this video reminds me of when Levi Allen got his van and converted it into his " mobile office " totally the move.... LOVE THE VAN :)
So stoked to see you guys pulled the trigger on a van! Can't wait to see what adventures it helps to bring to your lives.
Thanks always for sharing my photos 🙏
Van name should be “Miles” for obvious reasons. I just bought an old jeep ready to travel. Love the content.
Hell yeah! So stoked for you guys!
I’ve been trying to talk my husband into getting a van, but he’s been wanting to get the rooftop tent first. Thanks for all the pros and cons to consider ☺️
Can’t wait to see what you guys create and explore!! Filling out the survey now
Rooftop tent first is a smart move! Then you both can see if you like the car camping life. Worst case, you can always sell the rooftop tent🤷 Thanks for filling out the surgery 🥰🤘

Finally. Welcome to the group.
Thanks for the honest thoughts about your adventure wheels, and we couldn’t agree more with how crunched for time it feels when going on filmmaking trips. Finding that balance of capturing amazing footage with relaxing and enjoying nature is something we’re still struggling with so this video was on point!
Good for you guys! Katie and I have been adventuring out of our small van for about a year now. Definitely beats the tent. Those rooftop tents are intriguing but you will love the locked door aspect. I have been digging through your videos for the past few days. Your videography and editing is fantastic. Love the adventures. Great storytelling.
We're stoked on the van! Thanks a ton for the compliments. Hoping to keep the story based videos going 🙏🏼
Alaska with you guys would be EPIC! Congratulation on the Van. Cheers :)
Another interesting video !! Vanlife seems so interesting, it really is something we'd like to explore eventually.
It's funny though, I had in mind when you first talked about the van that you got it because it was easier to bring Hasel. I imagined you trying to get her to the rooftop tent and give up the truck for the van after that ! 🤣
Enjoy the next trips !! 😊
Patagonia (Torres Del Paine area) is a lot different in person than you would think, it's become very commercialized. It's very pretty down there, but a lot of the campsites can range from a $30 platform for your tent to $500 for an actual hotel-like room with meals included. Plus you get full showers, even little stores, etc. It reminds me of a state park experience compared to a backpacking experience.
That being said, the O route is a little more remote and wild compared to the W route, and that will feel more like true backpacking once you get away from the W section!
With the new van… this show just got even better! Congrats!
What’s up Cody! Hello Victoria! Glad to see y’all making content. Loved the video. It’s helping me decide which route I want to go as I already have a Chrysler Town & Country.
Side note: it was great seeing you back at Camera Camp. I filled out the survey!
Hope you can make it out on the trip man! Would be cool to see ya
A trip?? A new van?? I love this video already. Can't wait to watch the rest when i get home from work.
Would love to see ya on an adventure 😉
Dude I love your color grades!
Ah man thanks. I kinda rushed this one since it wasn't a "real" video. But glad it turned out
@@codyandvictoria Agreed! Do you use the A7SIII? I started using another creators settings and I’m not crazy about them. Everything looks so greeeeen. Help! 😳
This is so rad man!
🥰 love ya Sid!
A very smart move in buying the van. Privacy, security and the ability to work and who knows, you might find some unique barn find and now you can bring it home.
Bandy! The Van ! 😁 ( Cody , Victoria , Hazel and Bandy ! To adventures )
Thank you for featuring my picture!!! I feel like I'm in the dream XD
And I'm super excited about your new adventure with the cool van!
Van name...thought of "Tahoe", but it's taken so... "Blue"! how about that? :)
For the meet up, awesome idea. Ive been and set up a few of these, best recommendation I can suggest would be to do something local first to get a feel for planning an actual meet up event and kind of how you like it organized. Work out logistics what should you bring? Is it 2wd accessible? Is it backpacking? Or it’s an overlanding vibe? Just a few ideas, a shakedown is always best beforehand.
Fortunately we have a super amazing company working out ALL of the logistics! Just need some survey responses to make it happen! 🙏🏼
Stoked that you guys made the decision to get a van! I've been making do with my old Hyundai by sleeping in the back with mattress pad and a sleeping bag. The hard sides and locked doors definitely give you that extra sense of security, so I'm sure it'll help you guys out with getting some better sleep with that peace of mind. Also, I know you guys said you won't be making any build videos as you renovate the van, but it would be sweet if you just got a few time-lapses and some before and after shots to include in a video once the "build" is complete so to speak. Anyways hope the first trip you about to go on goes well! Enjoy it!
Now that’s a cool van. I totally hear you about safety especially these days, some people are out to harm others. Best wishes & good luck. Salute!
I watched this 3 weeks after the fact so I see you are going to Alaska. I did a road trip to Alaska from Washington state in 2013. Love Alaska but I highly recommend that you make a trip into the Yukon Territory as part of it. And if you are feeling really adventurous and have the time, you might want to head up into the Northwest Territories.
Congrat's guys, with a little TLC that thing will be awesome! Less setup than the roof tent too...can't wait to see the adventures! :)
Stoked for it. ☺️
Gotta name the van Ghost, it totally fits the vibe! Love you guys, keep it real! I live in Alaska and run long ultra trail races and where I live outside of Fairbanks we don't have massive mountains but we do have awesome trails. Down on the coast you'll find the best mountain access. For backpacking Denali has some great adventures, Kesugi Ridge is an amazing 2 day trip that has insane views. The Kenai is my favorite, an 8 hour drive but still my favorite. Amazing trails and beautiful mountains, just jeep an eye out for them bears. Take it easy!
Stoked for you both! We fly back to the U.K. and pick up our next week also! 🚐💨
I’m inspired by your creativity, the sound on all yours vids is remarkable. You can name should be “Blue”.
I literally just started camping this summer, mostly a few short solo trips (ground tenting), and... I totally get why people do vans, aka not sleeping in tents - esp as a solo female, haha. I wasn't that worried about people/creepers so much, cause I only stayed in campgrounds, but I just could never sleep that well, freaking out about EVERY single noise, and I def agree I do feel weird about feeling a bit more exposed than if you were inside a car/van/solid structure lol. And... animals, which is rare to have probs with 'em if you're smart/don't do dumb shit, but you know how it is. So... defs get why people do vans + stoked to see what you guys get up to!
What a cute van! So excited for this adventure and can't wait to get our own :)
So awesome Cody!
Can’t wait to see more adventures from you two! Definitely couple goals! My girlfriend & I Love all of your videos!
Betty White!
Love watching your adventures guys, can’t wait to see the next chapter in “Ramsey”! Your new vans name.
Vehicle based camping is also a lot more compatible for bringing the dog along. So excited for you guys!
Exactly!! Stoked for that too
Delilah! That was the first name that popped in my head 😂 excited for your new adventures!
You guys are so awesome!!
Congrats on the van!
Finally you got the proper vehicle :)
Even better though a van with a roof tent with access from inside :)
My nickname idea is the Admiral. Kind of a play on Cody “Blue” 💙. Damn guys! So pumped for the adventures your going to have in that thing 🤘🤘
Van life!! 😆 Are you gonna bring Hazel with you guys? Be careful with her on super long trip. It can be stressful for small dog but I’m sure you guys already know that ☺️
Now you guys need Starlink, so you’ll have internet everywhere :) congrats with the purchase 🎉
2 minutes in and went straight to the link! lol I’m so downnnn for this!
Now back to the video haha.
Let's gooooo!!
Cozy Blue would be a great name for the van (especially if you actually painted it blue) 😂
There's definitely pros and cons to both options. I've been using a rooftop tent for almost 2 years and have enjoyed; especially for getting away from the campgrounds and people. The van will be great for y'all especially for road trips and working remotely when needed. Hazel will too!
A tip is to get a roof-box for your van for all your dirty climbing and camping gear!
So I've been into Mopars and drove Dodge B-series vans at work for almost twenty years. Among the vans I used was a '97 B2500 with the 5.2L and the A727 transmission, no overdrive. This was a fleet-maintained van that I drove for around five years or so. Biggest issue it had, one of the exhaust manifolds cracked. This is fairly dangerous given the nature of combustion gases and how the 'doghouse' engine cover in a van is not necessarily as well-sealed as a firewall. Symptoms were smell and stronger valvetrain ticking sound from the exhaust valves. The next worst problem was that the side mirrors would just never stay in position.
Doing maintenance on one of these vans was already difficult enough with the doghouse arrangement of the engine bay in a work/cargo van with vinyl seats and a vinyl floor. I expect that with the plush upholstered interior it'll require a lot more disassembly to get to the engine without making a permanent mess of the interior. If I were in your shoes I'd just plan on pulling one or both seats out when doing anything requiring removing that cover, because otherwise if you try to chance it you'll inevitably have a problem at some point.
Definitely one of the good things from a parts and maintenance perspective, the engine family in these vans dates back to the mid-sixties, and by '97 with the multport fuel injection and roller cam, pretty much all of the quirks were worked out. Additionally the body of the van from the A-pillars rearward was substantially the same from '71 to '03, so parts are relatively easy to come by if needed. As an example, if your van has a normal, basic open rear differential, you may well be able to find a replacement rear axle assembly with some form of limited slip or locker already in place and with the correct gear ratio, which will benefit you substantially when you're off asphalt. You won't be four wheeling, but you may avoid getting stuck if dealing with washout of a gravel or dirt road. If you can't find that whole replacement axle, you can still get LSDs or lockers that are commercially available, but obviously plan on having a professional install one for reliability's sake.
I honestly can't believe how knowledgeable you are about this! Obviously, were not mechanics at all but it's good to have this information on hand in case anything were to go wrong. Gonna screenshot this for future reference. Thanks for taking the time to write this up. 🙏🏼 Also... The mirrors already won't stay in place. But that's fine haha
You two are very nice couple . Stay safe , stay strong , stay together ❤ 💪 😀
This is awesome!! If you don't make build videos of the van, should make some instagram stories and little updates, personally love watching those!!
We'll throw some stuff on Insta for ya 🤙🏼
Went with a 2011 Xterra Pro 4x so I'm definitely down to adventure. I have 2 weeks worth of vacation right now
YAS. So sick. Meet ya at Smith 😏
Girrrllll!!! We were wanting to make it up to Smith before winter! Maybe we can squeeze in a trip🤗
-V
Ahhh so cool! Excited to see what you guys get up to :) I've wanted a van for so long, but van life and apartment life just don't mesh... hopefully one day...
Fingers crossed 🤞🏼!
That's awesome!
Waldo!!! That’s the nameeeeeee
God, you guys are so cool 😭 The van is rad!
Haha! 😂 We're not that cool. Social media is a lie. But thanks! Just trying to have fun out there!
Where did you place the Microphone for this video and what mic did you guys use? That’s really good quality audio.
Placed near our feet outside of frame
Rode VMPR+
You guys are awesome.
I like that style van. 😊
She looks like a Lucy to me.... Congrats!! Darren/Nashville
Would be SICK to travel with y’all and get connected to a community that shares the same passion. Looking forward to it!
Yess!!!! We're so excited. Please click the link for the survey 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Great video. Please on what lens was it filmed? 24-105mm F4 G? Love you.
Yes
The way you are describing, I have feeling you will Eventually end up buying RV, you will have all the comfort of home and yet mobile to explore places!
Hopefully you guys can make it to the East Coast someday to check out the Blue Ridge, would definitely be into meeting up for that! As for the van name: Tito! Don't know why, but that's the first name that came to mind. Grats on the van and look forward to seeing it finished!
Yea we need safety too cody
here my favourites back. I named this beauty as Whitey :)
Heck ya, van life. Just came back from an rv trip, we should hang out.
I'm surprised u guys didn't get a small rv. That's why I went that route cuz I already drive a truck. That way I don't have to pay double insurance.
I love your guys videos. 😆 lol I did chuckle a little because you guys are worried about people climbing into your tent but slept perfectly fine on the floor in bear country. Haha 😄😆 I'd trust animals more than people too.
Haha animals don't have bad intentions. They're just animals! 😝
She is Purdee! Best!
Clearly being the best name is Marky Mark.
Super fun, guys.
1. So I’ve traveled to over 40 countries and have booked many trips for groups that go overseas for over 3 months at a time. I’m pretty well versed in this area so if you’d like to connect, let me know and I could share some of my experiences.
2. You should name your van , Ol Sierra.
Name the van, Olaf. (Snowman from frozen) lol
Ahhh I missed selecting Alaska, but I definitely say yes to that!!! 💜
Noted!! Hope to see you 🤗
Congrats! This is awesome. Two things: (1) when are the adventures with Levi Allen coming, and (2) for some reason Phyllis came to mind. Not too sure why! haha! Congrats again!
Haha Levi is a friend IRL. I'm sure we'll meet up with him at some point ☺️
Build videos still would be cool!!
Sweet video! Van name: Marky Mark 🙂
Oh! Y’all movin in that van! You can only fight it for so long. Also no van build, cause of your lack of experience. I feel like that’s good content for people who are in the same boat. Do your thing, I’m new.
Van name: Ronda. And you can call her big Ronda for funs
I like Rhonda!! 🤣
Did someone said hiking?? Sign me up🙋🏼♂️ I’m planning a patagonia trip for my 30th birthday next september
You guys are awesome ❤️
We love you from Morocco 🇲🇦
You guys are awesome
Grew up on a van back in the 70's b4 all this so called over landing stuff was even a thing.
Dad would take us everywhere in the Western states & all up and down Baja MX.
I love that! I think people are drawn to living a simpler life and living in a van makes it easier to do so☺️

Tienen que ir al Parque nacional Taguan tagua, En chile
Still have the frontier?
Still have it! Daily driver now
Jean Claude Dam Van!
For this talking style video did you lapel up or just use the shotgun? It sounds great for it being outdoors. :)
Got a separate shotgun recording this one down by our feet.
@@codyandvictoria aha! Perfect. Thanks!
I live in England so sorry will not be able to participate. I do have a question though - where is Hazel? I hope she is alright. Thank you.
You can still participate! It's open to everyone.
As for hazel she's doing wonderful. Hope to have her in the next video ☺️
Van name: "Sh'More"...or "Marshmallow" 😁
How about Van'o'white?
I want to do this so bad. Do you like it better than a truck with a roof tent?
DO THE BUILD VIDEO!!!!!!
