- Analog Four vs Perfourmer : which one is for you? In this video I will share my ideas on this two amazing instruments. Rather than do a pointless sound comparison , I will put more effort on the different uses these machines, which share the same voice architecture, can have.
My goal is to give you all the possible tools to understand which one suits you best.

I love all about this comparison /review.
Thank you!
My pleasure!
Thanks for the thoughtful video, buddy. Greetings from California.
thanks for watching
"I don't know the technicalities, I just use them" could be the best sentence ever pronounced in the whole synth-related-world
ahahah spero ci facciano una maglietta lol

A4 is a great box. The 4 track limit makes you work for it. You can surprisingly go deep. I like mine and always get surprised with the final outcome. Nice review / comparison. The per Four mer sounded better. Personally love the Elektron sequencer.
thanks!!
Yes, though it would have been soo nice if it was 6 tracks/voices rather than 4.
Great video, don't forget you can patch the Analog Four CV outputs to the Analog Four CV inputs and save different configurations per pattern.
omg , obviously, but I didn't think about it :d
recently sold the A4. I must say I am happy to have this clunky menu diving out of the house.
it seems you never used the perform buttons . avoids all menu diving
it needs a little of setup but once done you are good to go
Perfourmer craps all over the A4 sound-wise to my ears but I just can’t get by without patch memory. I’ve owned the A4 twice and used it a lot but it was always too buzzy sounding, I could never make it warm and inviting. I will not own it a third time 😅 One day I’ll pull the trigger on the Perfourmer… I just need one. Not sure I’ll be productive with it but let’s see!
its about fine tuning it !
A4 is a monster, now that i have the syntakt the thing that we need ASAP to make it even better are the green / purple mutes to mute across al patterns or per pattern and the ctrl all functionality
agreed
Love this!
thanks!
When you created a "perfourmer matching" patch for A4, how did you set up your envelopes? Did you mapped attack/decay for Amp or Filter? Or did you mapped both?
One of the things a hate with A4 is that you can't have the same envelope for filter and amp. So frustrating, making things too complicated.
I mapped attack and decay, filter 1 cutoff , filter 1 envelope and slide.
Ok, so this has me torn .lol. Think what I would maybe consider is creating a Cnc cut template of the P4 deck to then draw the indicating knob positions onto said cut out. This being in such a way that I can apply a template layer and remake it as a preset when required . maybe .lol.
Super simple question to answer: BOTH!
the best choice, in fact Oora uses Pefourmer live :)
The both !!!
But my Vermona remains ahead of my analog4
ahah yep!
For me A4 😊 But I would also like to have a Perfourmer. Both are amazing synth. Cheers!
:)
If I recall correctly I think those Faderfox boxes actually came with cc/ midimapping’s for the original a4 mk1 stock
yes!
can you list up the geat used to hold your overhead camera phone?
Hi! Is your Analog 4 the OG one or the newer one?
I was thinking of getting the OG one to go with my perFOURmer.
Thanks
is the mk2
hello wonderful comparison - the spontaneous jam at the end demonstrates your mastery!!
one question Shik v Analog Heat +FX - I agree more knobs other than the 5 would be wonderful, but if you had to pick either the Shik or the Analog Heat + Fx, and I understand they are different - for "performance" which would it be?
hello! the Shik is just a controller so not sure how to compare the two products. if you mean using them with one of the two machine here presented... maybe the heat fx!
Thank you!
bravo, really, bravo. I got em both and I thank you for that. and the the shik lol. guess that leaves the Otto thingamajig.
:) sorry for your wallet!!
Hey bro, out of all your synths what’s your fav under $2500?
man what is that gorgeous statief holding an iphone? Who can post a link?
Both are awesome in their own way. It really depends on your personal needs and preferences. I love the sequencing capabilities on the A4 and thus would choose the A4 but soundwise the Vermona sounds a little better.
agreed!
Analog 4 is awesome !
Yesterday I was returning back home by the train. I've had A4 mk2 with me. And that time, about four hours did run away very fast )) This machine is a good time killer.
I have a pretty big backpack and A4 was feeling like a thick notebook in it: not big at all.
One of the greatest features that I like in A4 is that it backs up your process in a case of a sudden electricity shutdown! We've had a stop where the train was switching from the diesel to the electric power. After arriving to that station the power supply did stopped without any warnings (it's bad of course but isn't a crime). After I've got the power back and restarted A4 the state was the same as in the time when I was interrupted. I don't know many digital synths that behave this way.
On the con side I only have the complaint about critical differences in firmware features between A4 and Rytm which could be not that "synthetic" IMHO.
yeah I love the autosave thing :)
I love my analog 4, I tried to sell it but it never did sell and I am sort of happy about digging back into it.
my only complaint is that i find it really difficult to get nice deep and warm sub bass from it.
I think its because it doesnt have a sine wave osc which i think is my biggest complaint about the A4.
you can get a sine by turning off the osc and rising the resonance of the filter into selfosscillation. Maybe you can try looking into that? :) By lowering the cutoff od the filter you should get some bassy sounds. That being said, I also struggle with this and find the A4 is great for thin sounds like pads or strings which don't require to be fat but also struggle to make it sound thick and present.
@@Maxi3242 Thats an idea! I will have to try that. But yeah Im with you, its hard to get it fat and warm, i have been playing it for years now and still havent quite found the trick.
people have suggested using the triangle and filtering it down essentially makes a sine wave and more or less it works not bad but then you are down a filter for that voice just to get a sine wave.
True, the sub isn't the strongest feat of the A4, does the job just fine though. Something very obvious that I missed for a good while is that the outputs on the synth are not the loudest. It can be helpful to turn your other gear down, to give the A4 a little more room for fine tuning things like the oscillator level, which when ran into the filter too loud will kill some bass.
very good advices here
@@pablo-939 oohh thats an interesting idea I never even considered.
The Elektron gear is on another level
good stuff!
@@OoraMusic I’ve got the machinedrum SPS 1 mk2.
As much as I appreciate a raw analog synth like the Perfourmer...I need patch memory. I don’t have time to fiddle around with patch creation every single track or if I need to get something out quick. I also don’t need to rearrange outboard effects. I guess I’m just a set it and forget it type of guy
then a4 is for you!
"...but I still love my wife." 😆
Was laughing hard about that one, too 😂
😂😂🖤
ahahah
Best of both worlds? Get the eurorack version of the Performer filters and pass the A4 signal through it, you wont miss a thing
Dont you think that Vermona sounds much better, more massive, rounded, more deep and analogish, electron sounds like vst..?
they have different strength. Verona sounds just magic to me, is my favorite sounding synth. The A4 offers you loads of feature and is just great as a standalone box.
Sold Perfourmer few months ago, didn't look back. I have enough Seqential and Moog analog synths to cover the territory. It is nice piece of gear, it has that clinical sound, however, saw is a bit darker, and I was never blown away by the single oscillator channel - it sounds a bit sterile. Yeah, nice stuff, hands on control - but again I don't miss it at all. I never wanted A4, but I would probably, in hindsight, take A4 over Perforumer - although I have a lots of elektron boxes and I think sound is nothing special, so - I'd rather use Electron sequencer for sequencing Moogs, Pro2/3 and modular gear.
I guess they all are good things, its a matter of personal use and taste
@@OoraMusic absolutely, you do wonders with it, its totally up your alley - we all have our own thing. The only tech remark I have on Perfourmer is that the saw is for some reason too dark, compare it with any of your other synths, its extremely audible. It does make for a nice 303-like lines, but then the filter is too mild for that. But, you said yourself, you like sine - triangle kinda sounds and thats fair (i love pure sine arp through reverb and delay quite often), I just expected more from richer harmonics waveforms.
I would love to put my hand in the Vermona Perfourmer, looks and sounds honest, to the point and clear.
I have the A4 mk1, and it is a magnificent piece of gear, but not for those who do not like deep menu diving.
My personal frustration is the infinite potentiometer rotary knobs, who falter after a few years of use.
And the repair is a big downer, In terms of shipping and costs, imo.
Will you get an Push 3?!
only if they send one :D
@@OoraMusic haha ok. i looking forward too ;) mine cam today
I have a digitakt, the analogue is pretty cool but i prefer the perfourmer. A day maybe, i will buy a vermona for 1500 euros😅
good plan!!
my only beef with A4 are cheap wobbly pots. Otherwise its amazing.
I would also say both.
of course :D
Both are very nice. I do think the PerFOURmer sounds better but you gain a ton of features in a smaller footprint and only lose a little sound character.
exactly
@@OoraMusic thanks for the informative demonstration
Ciao.
eeew, sfondi una porta aperta.
it seems counterproductive to feed the perfourmer ino the elektron. that way the a/d of the elektron "destroy"/cut the full sound spectrum of the perfourmer.. it takes its magic away. good as an elektron advertising but not the truth!
by the way i like your vids and your style a lot! but with this i feel you got lost in some abstract ideas/thoughts of "economical" aspects.
i like it when you stay simple;)
in the end you managed it good (with some swet on your skin😉) to keep both companies happy😅
I thought He owned the Perfourmer , is saying things he said before like the perfourmer is heavy to bring about, just plain practice. This IS a comparison for petes sake :-D
That is a perfect comparison. For me the Octatrack is the most best made machine ever. But Elektron is not develop it anymore. The A4 from the first version I did not like.
For me it sounds shit. The today version I do not know. Perhaps it’s better.
Perfourmer. No question 😁
I’ve got mad gas for the A4 but perfourmer hasn’t really had that effect on me. Why do you rate it so much?
@@jimmyscott7414 Here is why: ruclips.net/video/iq3DuJW71wg/видео.html
I had A4 mk1 for a few years. Never really loved the sound of it. Compared to that Perfourmer's voice is heaven (just listen to the jam in the link). A4 has the advantage of the Elektron sequencer. Compared to that Perfourmer is very very limited (only cutoff and PWM can be controlled via MIDI). You must use your hands at all times to make it sing! Since I have automated almost everything in eurorack my vote is the stellar sound over automation. Perfourmer! No question.
I sold a4mk2 for a p4mr. Didn't keep the latter. Mistake for me.
@@LordoftheBadgers Why did you sell it ? I have a perfourmer and an analogue4, and the perfourmer has a rich, warm sound that the analogue 4 does not have. It's a keeper for sure !
Ok, analogue 4 has lots of features that the perfourmer does not have, but for me, it's the sound before everything else, and there's no question that the perfourmer has a better sound in my opinion. And having direct control over the sound is also a big advantage.
@@LordoftheBadgers If you didn’t got the Perfourmer singing you haven’t used your hands enough. It needs to be tweaked.
hello guys!
ciao!
i didn't know these two were... analogous
:D
I’ve gone full circle. I had a perfourmer, loved it but sold it to get an a4 but didn’t jive with it at all long term, sold that and put an order in for a perfourmer again, no stock till December where I am eeesh
ahahah man I know the struggle
Convince me why i should get the prerfourmer and not the matriarch
four independent voice for amazing counterpoint, more portable, sounds gorgeous
"But I still love my wife" 😂
Like it was close that's a real complement to your wife for sure
:D
Two completely different toys, not sure why would you compare them...Vermona smashes the sound all day long and the Elektron has a wonderful sound with multiple uses...
I have been asked many many times to compare them...
It's understandable @@OoraMusic
Not comparable machines.
thanks for letting us know.
Girlfriend or Boyfriend with a great job that loves and supports your music spiritually and financially, easy, both. Living alone, supporting yourself with whatever gigs you can come up with, easy, the Perfourmer, it just sounds better, so creamy and good. As you say, the Perfourmer is limited in what it can do, but what it does, it does with grace and beauty. Imagine a world where human beings shared the same qualities, simplicity with grace and beauty and everything up front. Bliss.
Thanks fro sharing your thoughts!
