  • University of Minnesota research in the College of Education and Human Development is teaching us about how our minds process information. By showing babies an object that appears 3-dimensional, researchers can understand how our minds perceive information, and at what point in our brain development we are able to reason the structure of objects in front of us.

    Really nailed the "And that's enough... to blow a baby's mind."

    Lol. So adorable. I'm so glad neuroscience is now really integrated into these studies. It's so cool.. I had a stroke when I was in my late 20s (28 yrs, but was fully recovered by around 34; I'm 38 how) , and I lost my ability to write, read and speak, and I (still) have a massive hole in my brain, and learning the way I *learned* was a huge part of my recovery, particularly bc I couldnt write or read. I had to really count on my perception as my primary "learning tool", and it gets very manipulative, as we see here. It's like, a fucking gift from God that I somehow turned myself into a neuroscientist. Really, it truly is. And people are still so hard on me like, "you don't do enough!" Um... I smack you in the face.

    That’s unfair - that one Viking baby was missing an eye in some sort of battle.

    Believe half of what you see / cut to baby in an eye patch
    I see what you did there. No pun intended

    I like how the guy pretended he was with the fake cube and then a giant hand comes on screen and moves it. Or maybe he's baby reporter.

    I'd say inference more than assumption. The brain is making inferences based on incomplete data when processing a two dimensional image, and it is presenting to your consciousness a curated perception.

    Was the eyepatch part of the experiment?

    • @colinray4186
      @colinray4186 3 года назад +3

      probably. our ability to perceive depth is altered when we can't see with both eyes. That's why people who lose an eye have to relearn depth perception. I've known a...surprising number of people with only one functional eye, now that I think about it.
