Greetings, Mark. Currently owning this model for almost 2 years in CFMOTO’s motherland, China. Though it have plenty of designing problems, like high center of gravity, horrible UI design & interact logic and lack of electronic assistance, it’s still a great bike for it’s value. It rides smoothly and powerful, that’s the core of motorcycle experience right? And it’s super comfortable for long distance travel. For those who are interested in this model I highly suggest you to wait for the Explore version which I consider is the full version of this model platform, with new dashboard, new hand switches, rear radar system and most importantly TCS. Many details optimized too. And it stays almost the same price(even cheaper in Chinese market). BTW, I just came back from your lovely beautiful country. Traveled in the United Kingdom for a whole month (a pity not on motorcycle) and you guys really have an excellent riding environment and atmosphere. The roads, the traffic, the landscapes and the weather, all perfect for motorcycle traveling. I do hope one day I could enjoy riding a bike on Great Britain Island. Best wishes.
I think CF Moto and Zontes are leading the Chinese pack in terms of quality. In 5 years time they will be up there in terms of mainstream quality. Nice to hear from an owner and glad you liked the UK. Need to come back for some biking and fish followed by fish and chips on the seafront!

As a new Hornet owner I really hope you review the new CFMOTO NK as its the same price unlike the 8s or 790duke that are at least a grand more. As it also uses the same engine as the 790duke it might be worth saving money and buying the NK instead.🤞you get to try one.

Mark, how does this new incarnation of the 790 engine compare to our 790 dukes, i assume you still own yours.... apparently its got a 20% heavier flywheel, also that quickshifter seems to work so much better, i wonder if we can get ours re calibrated so they work just as good, or is that also a characteristic of the new engine.....ps still love my hunter..... i enjoy your reviews
Hi it feels very similar....but in being in the heavier bike doesn't feel quite a fast and it has more of a roar from the air box....I've had my 790 duke remapped by j33 and it's way better than before or this engine in the cfmoto now Best regards mark
Just watched this again. More sophisticated than the Benelli in today's review? Do you think there is any chance that you will review a CFMoto 800NK, Mark? I have a preference for the basic one. It is only 6,999 GBP in GB. Nick J
Nice bike, just wonder how it will hold up in winter weather…any thoughts? Also, and this is either a stupid oversight of deliberate, why no traction control. It has got an IMU and cornering ABS so the hardware is there. Not a real deal breaker but come on CFmoto just activate it with a software update!
This is good value if you can get on with the looks. 435-degree firing order? A slip up, I assume. It certainly goes well. Good review, Mark. 1990 [Nick J]
Thanks nick There's a 435-degree firing interval, designed to emulate the firing order of KTM's big V-twins, with a crank pin offset of 75 degrees. The engine has a DOHC, eight-valve head, with one spark plug per cylinder. Best regards mark
I test rode one of these. I found the quality as per Mark’s review. The one I rode didn’t have a quick shifter (or it wasn’t working) - clutch was easy to use however. Personally I found the fuelling appalling (even in rain mode). Even at constant highway speeds the bike was lurching back and forth. As Mark says definitely worth a test ride - the one I had could have been a Friday afternoon bike.

You obviously liked it. But my problem is this, it’s made by a company in a country with a government who regularly cyber attacks the UK on a regular basis and we could easily be at war with at anytime soon (if they attack Taiwan). There is also zero copyright laws in china and many companies just clone western products (although I understand this is not the case with cfmoto). On that basis, I try not to give too much money to Chinese companies if I possibly can avoid it, although due to the west blindly handing virtually all manufacturing to China, is very difficult.
Some of political comments here are a bit absurd and silly, the amount of parts used in every motorcycle/car/household goods that are made in China is huge ,, cfmoto are a Chinese company that build Chinese "stuff" ,, bmw are a German company that use Chinese "stuff" in their vehicles, just like honda Yamaha Suzuki etc etc,, the industrial Chinese world are who they are because we (the rest of the world) buy their "stuff" ,, without china we'd have very little in our homes,, how many items are made in the uk or usa or Europe anymore???? ,, ..
This engine was very problematic for KTM with major failures.Oil pressure the culprit but the Chinese have resolved the issue.Needs a remapping here in OZ and C spanner for rear shock otherwise good value especially 2nd hand as huge depreciation factor

As a new Hornet owner I really hope you review the new CFMOTO NK as its the same price unlike the 8s or 790duke that are at least a grand more. As it also uses the same engine as the 790duke it might be worth saving money and buying the NK instead.🤞you get to try one.
Hi Paul yes I'll definitely be reviewing the NK soon as it's available
Best wishes mark
Sounds nice!
hi have a cb500f on a 22 plate looking to upgrade either to the 650mt or the 800mt i'm 51 on a full licence my son has a tiger 660 sport i'm on tip toe on that with would you suggest ?
Hi they are both similar seat heights i think ...im 5 ft 7 30 inch inseam and can get the balls of my feet down on this as the seat isnt too wide ...you may find you are ok on the cfmoto failing that you could get it lowered 30mm
best wishes mark
Mark, how does this new incarnation of the 790 engine compare to our 790 dukes, i assume you still own yours.... apparently its got a 20% heavier flywheel, also that quickshifter seems to work so much better, i wonder if we can get ours re calibrated so they work just as good, or is that also a characteristic of the new engine.....ps still love my hunter..... i enjoy your reviews
Hi it feels very similar....but in being in the heavier bike doesn't feel quite a fast and it has more of a roar from the air box....I've had my 790 duke remapped by j33 and it's way better than before or this engine in the cfmoto now
Best regards mark
Just watched this again. More sophisticated than the Benelli in today's review?
Do you think there is any chance that you will review a CFMoto 800NK, Mark? I have a preference for the basic one. It is only 6,999 GBP in GB. Nick J
Hi nick yes I've been eyeing up the 800nk soon as Poole Moto get one ...I'll be on it best wishes mark
@@markpulling12 I'll look forward to it.
Great review thanks Mark I know I needs check this one out good step up from my cb500x
My thoughts exactly !
Look at their new 1000cc sports bike,it looks sweet👍
Yes just looked at it ....cool
Mark, you should try the 800 NK CF Moto brought out
Definitely I'll chase up my dealer to get one :)
This is good value if you can get on with the looks. 435-degree firing order? A slip up, I assume. It certainly goes well. Good review, Mark. 1990 [Nick J]
Thanks nick
There's a 435-degree firing interval, designed to emulate the firing order of KTM's big V-twins, with a crank pin offset of 75 degrees. The engine has a DOHC, eight-valve head, with one spark plug per cylinder.
Best regards mark
Thanks for explaining that, Mark.
285° firing order is what it has apparently
I test rode one of these. I found the quality as per Mark’s review. The one I rode didn’t have a quick shifter (or it wasn’t working) - clutch was easy to use however.
Personally I found the fuelling appalling (even in rain mode). Even at constant highway speeds the bike was lurching back and forth. As Mark says definitely worth a test ride - the one I had could have been a Friday afternoon bike.
Cheers Ian at about 3 k it's lumpy due to euro 5 lean running but out on the open roads it was great 👍

@@markpulling12No strong resonance on the steering wheel, footrest, seat?
Would you do Beneli Trk702x?
Oh yes definitely...it's due UK in September
Best regards mark
In the long run. While driving 140 kph with topbox and panniers. It gets wobble.
Strange why is there no main stream or not enough mainstream dealers selling Chinese machines, is this the fault of poor importers?
It's all to do with politics
what mpg was you getting
About 50 Mpg UK with normal mixed riding cheers mark
Nice bike but those boxes are not waterproof, as far as I'm told. Nice review.
Never got water in mine. And i rode it in a heavy downpour during a typhoon here in the philippines.
@@michaeljohndelmundo4741Have you still got the bike? Have you had any issues? I’m in The Philippines too and am considering one of these , a VStrom 800 DE or Ténéré 700 for touring the islands. Just have questions about the reliability . No doubt it’s a bargain though.
@TripleB6036 still got mine. Still going strong. Still the best bang for your ADV bike here in the philippines IMHO.
What kind of riding will you be doing?
@TripleB6036 no issues with reliability. Starts everytime. No issues with maintenance (i had mine done at motostrada).
@@michaeljohndelmundo4741I’m planning on touring, mainly roads, perhaps the odd unfinished road/track . Based in Cebu but want to travel all the islands.
What about suspension 😅
You obviously liked it. But my problem is this, it’s made by a company in a country with a government who regularly cyber attacks the UK on a regular basis and we could easily be at war with at anytime soon (if they attack Taiwan). There is also zero copyright laws in china and many companies just clone western products (although I understand this is not the case with cfmoto). On that basis, I try not to give too much money to Chinese companies if I possibly can avoid it, although due to the west blindly handing virtually all manufacturing to China, is very difficult.
Thanks I totally appreciate understand your comment ... but isn't everything we buy these days made in china
Best wishes mark
@@markpulling12 unfortunately that is true, profit over morals. china has an appalling human rights record !
Some of political comments here are a bit absurd and silly, the amount of parts used in every motorcycle/car/household goods that are made in China is huge ,, cfmoto are a Chinese company that build Chinese "stuff" ,, bmw are a German company that use Chinese "stuff" in their vehicles, just like honda Yamaha Suzuki etc etc,, the industrial Chinese world are who they are because we (the rest of the world) buy their "stuff" ,, without china we'd have very little in our homes,, how many items are made in the uk or usa or Europe anymore???? ,, ..
Couldn't agree more ... Chinese bikes are very good 👍 and here to stay ...most jap bikes are made in Asia China Thailand now
Cheers mark
China will be the first country to harness the power of fusion...
This engine was very problematic for KTM with major failures.Oil pressure the culprit but the Chinese have resolved the issue.Needs a remapping here in OZ and C spanner for rear shock otherwise good value especially 2nd hand as huge depreciation factor
C spanner is attached to bottom of drivers seat, extension bar is in the toolkit.
Oh the close ups reveal the pricing. Nuts and bolts are mild steel? Welds are terrible. No no no.............
How close did you look 🤔🤔🤔
@@seanobrien5520 Very.
Don’t like wire wheels not in our winter
I heard it has facial recognition and takes speeding fines straight out of your bank account lol 😉🤣 its coming.
Chinese?? NO THANKS! 2nd hand value is BAD!
Just wait and take a look what is going to happen..
Second hand value isnt a worry when you hit your sixties..carpe diem !!
@@dr.med.jurgenwille8906 what's going to happen ? China takes over the world and we all drive 800mt's and eat Chinese food every day...Yahoo!!
