That library is worth a trip to see. Magnificent building. Thanks for the peek. My S-I-L is moving up from Tampa to W.T. in June. Looks like a great place. I'll have to o visit her soon.
I was born and raised in Watertown, yet don't remember ever going in to the Roswell P. Flower Memorial Library. What a gorgeous building. I could see spending all day in there!
One of the few things Governor Flower left the people of Watertown is that magnificent Library along with his statue entering the square. Probably the most famous person from Watertown New York who is living presently is Viggo Mortensen. His mother lived in Watertown and from my understanding Viggo was born here. He graduated in 1976 from Watertown High School. Also Dr. Delos Cosgrove, who was the CEO of the Cleveland Clinic for the longest time.
Hi Jessica, Pretty town. I just watched an older movie starring Viggo co-starring Diane Lane. Both actors are so good at their craft. Thanks for watching & commenting
Secretary of State John Foster Dulles and his brother Allen Dulles, an early director of the CIA, came from Watertown. They held those offices during the two Eisenhower terms. Their families were descended from Reverend Foster of the First Presbyterian Church just a block south of the Flower Library. Thompson Park was designed by the famous landscape architect Frederick Law Olmstead who also designed Central Park in New York City. Robert Lansing was also Secretary of State, during President Woodrow Wilson's term. I was born and raised in Watertown. Watertown High School Class of 1965.
Hi Michael, thank you for watching! I couldn't believe how popular this Watertown video has become, it is my highest viewed to date. Thank you for sharing your historical knowledge on Watertown, very interesting. Have a great day!
Once you go past the church on State Street it's all downhill from there. If you were looking for a grocery store you should have gone the other way on Arsenal St where you've got WalMart, Hannaford's, and Aldi. The library is magnificent for a town that size. Hope you said hello to Brian the security guard (if he's still there). The Salmon Run Mall is pretty boring, but you might find the installation "Perpetuball Motion Machine #2" (which my son used to call the "chingachunk machine") amusing as well (maybe the only thing I miss there).
Lived here for about four years as a teen. Have some weird desire to go visit it now. So strange how it seems nothing has changed in 25 years. Some of the same people are still there.
Its very sad you have a beutiful building in a bad city.Born and raised there so i know what the city was like back in the day.very littlte crime and the only ''drug'' was'' weed''.Over the years it's gotten worse.
Nice to see they didn't scare you off with your cameras. They called the cops on menu 1st time but I have been back 4/5more times and seems they have changed
Boomer Girl Walking, sorry but I think you showed this video before. I said that the library reminds me of the one in nyc on 6th Ave. and I've asked if you found the cereal, you replied no so you got another brand. Sorry anyway, I hope you guys are having a good day!😀😀
Rosa, I re-released the video as I was asked to blur out some passersby by another viewer. But I couldn't figure out how to overlay the edited one on top of the original, so it shows up as a new video - sorry about that!
