- Hello again! We're at the Salmon Run Mall in Watertown, NY! Sure, we love to see some of the mall and play in their arcade a little- but there is one main attraction...! Come along on our road trips by clicking the "Subscribe" button!
The Salmon Run Mall has quite a few unique and standard shops, but the main event is the "Perpetuball Motion Machine #1", a sculpture by George Rhodes which uses balls to move through and create sound within the artwork. The piece not only fills this wing of the mall with sound and rhythm, but is a draw for many families, children, art lovers, shoppers and even dogs!

Quite a unique attraction for a mall! Do you think malls could all use something like this? Let us know!
i hope his gizmo is actually powered on more than the one in champlain mall. been years sine i been in that mall or vacationed near plattsburg
I've seen it off a few times over the years but it must be a labor of love to keep it running. Thanks for finding and watching our little video!
Reminds me of the one at the Boston Museum of Science at 3:38
Love it when they put these in science museums. Great way to learn about kinetic energy. Thanks for finding our little video about this mall!
No prob. BTW, there is another one that looks similar to this one at the Champlain shopping centre in Plattsburgh NY, you might want to go check it out!
Awesome shopping mall! Great products there!
New friend with full support👍 🔔❤ Have a great day!
Thank you!
@@FlyingRoadtrips Thank you too!😊
Great to see life, for the North Country. A pocket full of quarters, and it was Space Invaders, all day!
Here a research project- What was the first enclosed mall (regionally), Midtown Plaza (Rochester), or Fairmont Fair?
We really miss going to those classic arcades. Malls are an interesting topic. That sounds like something fun to look in to...!
Back in the 90’s, we had a restaurant in the food court. I spent an entire summer at the food court. The seating looks exactly the same
Hello again 😊
I maybe planning a trip to see the solar eclipse in Watertown. I was wondering if you could suggest a good hotel/place to stay, eat? And I heard Thompson park maybe a good place to view the eclipse…
Either way I’d like to visit the mall! Thanks for your videos🤓
I took a peek online and from that and having been up there, I would suggest trying some of the hotels near 81, across from Salmon Run. I didn't get to check out the rates or availability tho... We used to have luck with Holiday Inn Express, but their rates went up and the quality went down. The Hilton or Hampton would probably be worth looking in to... It's a pretty good area for hotels I imagine- Ft Drum is nearby and I'm sure they get a lot of visitors up there. Hope this helps? let us know how it goes!
@@FlyingRoadtrips thank you so much this was very helpful! I will look into the hotels there. We’ll see how the weather pans out.. I’m figuring there maybe still be snow around April 8th
Thanks again and until next time
How many miles do you think those balls have rolled since that sculpture was installed? Millions probably. Thanks for sharing this blast from my past. Salmon Run for bourbon chicken at Cajun Cafe in the food court was almost always a stop -- along with Fay's Drugs across I-81 for fishing tackle -- when I drove between Manlius and Plattsburgh during college. That was almost 30 years ago -- Yikes! #GoodMemories I'm glad to see the mall is still holding its own.
Oh cool! Yeah- I think it also is still rocking cuz nobody wants to shop in strip malls during their winters up there! Just thinking of the bourbon chicken makes my mouth water.
I wonder what it's like after hours when the only sounds are coming from the Perpetuball Motion Machine.
It probably sounds amazing!
The mall looks like it had a 2000's era renovation, but still has a classic feel. The sign is definitely 80's. I wonder if it's original.
Classic. I visited a lot here with my mom and brother in the late 90s early 2000s. Miss that area of the country dearly.
Oh cool! I'm glad we could be a part of showing it to you again :)
That perpetual motion machine has been there for a long time... I remember there being a JW that sold clothes, hills dept store, Wendy's, taco bell, shoe store etc..that old monaco gt racing arcade machine was the same one at an arcade in alex bay 😅
Very cool!
My hometown is near this mall. Croghan NY is my hometown. This was my go to mall. I live in Utica NY and now go to Sangertown Square more often than this mall.
Sangertown is another of our favorites! Thanks!!!
