35 yo dad here.. just got myself a 29 to cruise and my son a 14” (hes 5) trying to revamp the bmx life in my town. Spotted a nice field to start building soem jumps.. hoping if I build they will come. Love your channel man keep it up!
Freecoaster is not a better option. Everyone is comfortable with something different. I've been riding street bmx for 10 years and never thought of buying a freecoaster (as well as plastic pegs).
@@DuhYaThinkplastic pegs are just easier to ride. Riding gets harder every day as you get older so I recommend everyone to pop plastic pegs. I was a die hard metal pegs guy for over 15 years but everything is just so much more pleasant on plastics and you’re damaging spots much less. I’m riding my first coaster now (I bought a wtp hybrid so i can switch it up to a cassette when I’m out riding jumps) and the pain in my knees is gone. Biking takes a toll on your health and I will personally do anything I can to ensure that I can continue riding for as long as possible.
@@mpietryka Agreed. Haven’t been out much lately. Last year tore both rotator cuffs and some other stuff in my shoulders. At 47 I’m happy too cruise around and hop stuff and got a handful of grind tricks but it’s hot right now and soon I’ll be back out 👍🏻
I borrowed a bike with freecoaster from my friends a couple of times and it's didn't ride well. I guess i prefer oldschool. I wouldn't change the sound of my rear hub and metal pegs when they hit the rail for anything. :D Everyone prefer something different and that's fine.. @@malakaideford7876
Thanks algorithm - after filing off my cone hubs last night for an hour with sand paper and a plier, using Allan key as a drill replacement, I finally go this recommended 😂😂😂
Talks about whats better for street yet rides park an dirt?🤔 last I checked it doesn't matter if your bike is set up a certain way park or street because you are still riding THE same stuff in either landscape if you got wax pegs guards then have at it you are a bmx rider there is no specific type bike or rider or riding type. I've seen racing an dirt frames bikes ride both street an park A street rider can ride park A park rider can ride street A dirt rider can ride race A Race rider can ride dirt...and so on. Also freecoster has no fast time restriction to engage like a Cassette so to say a freecoaster is better for street is like comparing an apple to an orange neither of them are better for one or the other because you can do the same tricks on both its just freecoasters lack what Cassettes don't also a freecoaster is more likely to fail in the clutch housing of the hub to where you can't pedal
So with the page thingy what if my bike isn't on there cause I ride the 2014 SIMPSONS CULT bmx and ik there isn't much info on that bike and not many people know about it so what do I do with this
Idea🤔. Compare mid level complete reliable bikes. Full chro-mo, full sealed, 2x double wall. Maybe bonus points for hub guards, 48 spline, HP tires, free coaster. Does Fit even make a complete full chro-mo? Let’s compare like 8 or 10 companies 😝. You’re awesome!!!!
Cinema VF and VR are the best universal hub guards i have found, they go on the outside on the dropouts, but if you have a male front axle usually it isn’t long enough for the peg and hub guard so a female hubs will help out
grinding with a front male axle shouldnt really happen, female hub with female axle should be a no brainer and is the standard for all street bmxs nowadays because they're way stronger and if they happen to break, they're really easy to replace.
I ripped off the thread from my inner axle because of the cinema guard. Best universal guard you can get is eclat servo in my opinion. Thin enough to go inside the dropouts, steel and last forever.

Recently bought 2018 WTP Nova 2nd hand for pretty cheap hardly ridden so cant complain. Got my 4 Odyssey Mpegs now installed ... new wtp 17m socket seat post and cult pivotal seat .. new bar ends... cut the bars by half a inch each side.. ..been riding for a month ... need to work out what hub guards fit my bike ...being the factory rims that came with the Nova ... Source BMX in uk said about the universal hubs but i didnt like the look of them ... anyone ride a 2018 nova that has hub guard fitted and can point me in right direction? Doug keep up the good work - left a video idea on the live stream comments.
Haha, I remember when cassettes were the norm and freecoasters were still the red headed step child! Question though, are they better now? in terms of slack and maintenance and general life. I might just upgrade before long.
yeah there are pretty good and reliable freecoasters like the odsy clutch v2, merritt battle coaster, etcc. i know the odyssey one has warranty so thats good to have, and i have the odyssey one with zero problems so far.
Yeah man they are becoming super popular and for the most part, the kinks are worked out. They still require more maintenance than a cassette. But like Max said, getting one with a warranty is a good idea.
Gonna go with a Kink Whip once I can find one that is actually available. Helmet is a definite, I like the Shadow helmets. Pegs obviously, hub guards too. I'm really anal about the tension of my chain, so getting chain tensioners too. Now my question is probably one thats not easily answerable. How do I meet other people in BMX in my area if I don't know any? I have really high anxiety, so just walking up to people isn't very easy for me...but I can manage to eventually.
Chain tensioners are a game changer. Also thanks for opening up about that and it's a tricky questions to answer since everyone is so different. What has always worked for me is just going to the skatepark to meet other bmx riders. Hangout and do your own thing. Eventually you will notice a trick they are really good at maybe something cool about their style. After that its really easy to go talk to them about (that cool trick they did) or how clicked their turndown was or something like that. We are all bmx family so you will be good 👍👍
@@Dougsterbob Thanks man, I really appreciate that. I had one other question since you really said the bike was very good since its all chromoly, double wall rims, sealed bearings. I want all that stuff because it's stuff I know I will break. Except a frame, never cracked one. Did dent an STA though. But for the life of me, I can't find a Kink Whip anywhere. I don't care if it's a 2020 or newer, or older. But I just can't find anywhere that sells them except a place in Dallas that wants $600 plus $100 for shipping. Know of anywhere?

Been riding street for 30 years. Still like a cassette, but dig plastic pegs.👍🏻 That’s the best thing about freestyle, this is no right and wrong 😊

I rode primarily street and never us pegs. For grinds I use my axle nuts, crank arm, or pedals.
I have a street bike setup and I still watched this video cuz I like your content

I tried using the bmx score sheet link, but it doesn't exist now.

Very good idea! I just need the rest of the 2022 bikes to come out 👍
All you mentioned is pro Level 😅
Thats not mid level
Kink Whip takes it minus maybe the freecoaster
What's the cons of running a flatland bar on a street bike?
I know its not a freecoaster, but any recommendation on some good casettes?
u can’t never go wrong with a profile mini
I agree with arian! I have had minis forever. they are amazing!

How do you install the gsport uniguard?
I’m sure you figured it out by now , but outside of the drop out, then peg and axle nut or bolt. They are nice 👍🏻

Odyssey m-pegs
Chro -mo and cheap 👌🏻💪🏻
I got the mission crossfire bars full cromoly 9 inch , I thought they were too big at first.
Is the 2021 stranger crux a good street bike? I ask because he doesn't review stranger bikes.
Freecoaster for Street ? that is a flat land stuff right? plastic pegs? the new school is wack
New freecoasters don't melt from street use like 2000's stuff did. They're silent too.
a mid 2000 eastern reaper on there? cus thats what i have
Yo Doug i wanna ask if a 140£freecoulster wheel is gonna be OK idk if it double wall but it a freecoulster
yes!
yo what happened to the bmx game stream, im dying lmao
Broooo I was riding the struggle bus this morning lmaoooo game is hard af
Cinema universal guards are great.
Shadow Sabotage sprocket is great cheap option.
I dont use pegs, but still use hub guards 😅
S&M cymbals. Daily Grind guards.
And I don’t need hub guards, my dropouts are the size of Texas lol
Mission has one.
Again how are you only at 5000 I mean that’s a Dream for me but you need more credit
Bro it's all about crue jones
No Cult Van's tires?
So what pegless street riders don’t exist? 😒
Guess Trey Jones isn't street
