I notice someone mentioned that Proof ruined the song and Eminem would be fine without him. I don't agree with that entire statement. Proof really helped Marshall and they have been friends since a young age. I do just want to say that I love Proof and respect him and I think he was a great rapper and I do know how much he helped out Marshall to get him where he is today, He believed in him. I've been a fan of Eminem for a long time now. Now onto my next part that may upset some people, but it shouldn't, because it's the truth.....try to keep an open mind. I don't think Proof was a good backing vocalist with Eminem in concert. Proof is off note in almost every single song with everything he sings. Granted, YES, he hypes up the crowd and gets people going nuts. But Eminem has great melody and Proof simply does not match his notes. I'm a musician myself and it stands right out to me, I can hear it plain as day. And some parts make me cringe a little bit. And of course, Eminem didn't give a shit because it was his best friend which is awesome! But for instance. I don't know who the new guy is in 2018 that took Proofs spot with Eminem in concert, but when you listen to him do the backing vocals with Em, he is spot on, and sounds GREAT. And he does sound better than Proof. If you can't notice the difference. Then I think that is crazy. YES, Proof has more hype, and stage presence and is much more fun to watch and I wish he was still around to play with Eminem! Yet again, I can't say this enough.....I LOVE PROOF, I even own his solo stuff, He is a great rapper! Just not a good back up singer. I hope other people can agree and relate to this.
i disagree. i think this performance is the worst example of proof as a hype man, because like you said, he isn’t really in tune because he is making it funny and exaggerated. but proof was em’s hype man for many years and knew every tiny detail and background noise of every song, and every word. if you listen to other concerts or performances, you can see he is actually very in tune
