    The snack sized fruit (bananas, cucumbers, carrots...) is really just a way to make more money, just compare the price per kilo. Probably handy when you have very young kids, I just prefer buying the smaller regular versions. Only exception I make is for baby carrots, they tend to taste way better to me :)

    Great video! Would you consider purchasing ur fruit and veg from a f&v store? Our local is cheaper than supermarkets, waaay better quality and so much better for the environment without all the excessive plastic packaging. Looking forward to seeing what u make, used to love ur cooking videos!

    • @AshJackson
      @AshJackson  6 лет назад

      Thanks beauty! I have found that Aldi fruit and veg tends to last quite a long time actually however there have been times where I have purchased fresh produce separately from other stores particularly if I want to buy items which aren't always readily available at the larger grocery store chains. Aldi did ask me not to comment on the plastic packaged items as there is a lot of negative stigma surrounding it at the moment but Aldi does actually sell most of their fruit and veg without plastic packaging. I just prefer to buy the pre-packaged bananas as they're quite small so they're perfect for school lunch boxes and the apples I buy in the little cartons as I find they prevent bruising. Other than that we really do try to avoid buying plastic in our household.

    Has part 2 of this been posted with all the meals? Just curious. I loved the haul. One thing I've found shopping in Australia is buying quality meat at a reasonable price. Here is SA I found foodland to be the best in terms of meat price but other than that it's pretty hard to find cheap meat to feed a family. Wish Aldi had online prices it would make everything so much easier lol

    I enjoy your videos Ash. But just curious, you talk a lot about having fresh produce. How is the produce fresh at day 6/7 and so on...? I actually do 2 shops a week to ensure we have fresh fruit and vegetables.

    • @AshJackson
      @AshJackson  6 лет назад +1

      Great Q Beauty! I find it lasts really well! We keep most of our fruit and vegetables in the fridge which definitely helps but there are times where I find fruit doesn't last quite as long (i.e. when I buy seasonal fruits that are going out of season), but in that case I'll just do a second shop which isn't a problem as they're usually cheaper by that stage anyway :)

    • @AshJackson
      @AshJackson  6 лет назад

      I'm still in that stage where getting the kids to eat any food is a huuuuuuuge task so my school aged kids often share a sandwich for lunch and prefer to have cereal in the morning so there are weeks where we will literally only use half a loaf! When we were in my mum and dads house however it was like a loaf a day haha!

  • @AllyandBubbles

    I always try to make a meal plan and budget for our shops... but then I have to take the partner shopping with me and he likes to sneak in ‘little treats’
    We live in the UK and spent around £100- which I think is just over 180 Australian dollars- for 2 of us and a dog for around 14-17 days.
    I know we could do much better but we’re still in that ‘let’s treat ourselves’ phase of life rather than being sensible 🤣🤣

    • @AshJackson

    The mince and sausage are so oily I went to cole and they taste better and are same price as Aldi and not oil at all Just maybe less then tablespoon. There dog roll cheaper I found making dog food is so much cheaper

    • @AshJackson

      Thanks for sharing lovely! Interesting that you found the mince comparatively oilier than the coles brand! I'll have to do my own little comparison as I've never had that problem before. Cool you make your own dog food too! I know who I'll be messaging if we ever get a pet dog ;)

    I find it a bit odd that you said you get free range eggs given to you most of the time but then why purchase cage eggs? Aldi had a great range of free range eggs that only vary slightly in price. The price difference is well worth supporting free range eggs.

    • @AshJackson
      @AshJackson  6 лет назад +1

      I agree lovely! I didn't mention that in the video as I accidentally picked up the caged eggs and was more or less hoping nobody would notice! Upon reflection I probably should have cleared that up in the video!

    • @Ceecee123
      @Ceecee123 5 лет назад

      Why are you so stuck up on supporting free range eggs?

    • @TangyTangyRose
      @TangyTangyRose 5 лет назад +3

      I don’t want to upset you, but free range doesn’t mean what you think it means. At least not in the UK. Free range means thousands of chickens are stuffed into a barn where a door is left open during the day for the chickens to roam. But they can’t get outside because they’re packed in so tightly that other chickens and dead bodies are in the way. Very few chickens make it outside. Even if they do, they’re still injected with the same poison as caged hens that makes them lay an egg a day compared to the average of one a week, leaving them sick and fatigued and sore. I hate to tell you, but no eggs are ethical unless you have your own chickens. And even then you should give the eggs back.
