I was born and bred Stoke-on-Trent but luckily for me, just after I turned 30 in 2018, I met my now fiancé and moved to a nice small town, Sandbach, and I’ve not been back since. Stoke was on the decline when I moved but this video, and another one of yours I’ve just watched of you going round Hanley, just shows what a downward spiral Stoke is in. It’s changed so much, fly tipping everywhere, boarded up buildings, buildings that have been knocked down with nothing in its place, homeless addicts living in tents. The state of the place now is shocking and in some ways, heartbreaking to see. I grew up on a council estate, Bentilee, and while I always knew that Stoke wasn’t the biggest or most modern city around, I definitely knew it wasn’t the worst. Once upon a time it was a good city to live and work in, even Hanley wasn’t that bad. But now it’s unrecognisable. What a shame and the government and local council should be ashamed of themselves for letting a good City go to the dogs like this. Happy that I was lucky to get away. Feel sorry for the people still there. Hopefully in the years to come the city can rebuild and turn its fortunes around because the people don’t deserve to live like that.

They've shut down the last remaining coal powered power station. And TaTa Steel are closing Dow., they bought the company years ago with the soul intention of closing it down. 2000 jobs gone and they collected a fortune in grants and support from UK tax payers since 2007..this UK factory produced the finest steal in the world and now it's gone with all those jobs.

No point spending money on Stoke.. the roads around connecting aren't fit for purpose. To get from one end of the city to the other after work is around an hour. You can drive to north Manchester in that time or Birmingham from Junction 15

We saw 5 minutes of them. Not enough to get a good judge of character. A lot of these people are kicked out of shelters for violence, drug use, theft, assaults against women. If you're in a tent generally you've exhausted all other options. Unfortunately this often stems from years of generational abuse leading to people that are near impossible to fix.
campsite with toilets / showers is a tenner a night. in true government style the dole could buy a field and set up their own business profiting from their own benefits payments to these people, provide mail boxes, an address, have a farm shop, charge extra for an allotment with an offer of buying produce. fresh air, walking. vs a shop doorway or horrible & expensive hostel

Really scares and upsets me this, its my future, im a 45 year old loser with mental health problems and live with my mum as her carer, shes not well and going to die soon and when she does im not going to cope alone with no income and im already considering ending it now. It is a big challenge, but it is also important tat you have frinds to give you moral support and a aemblence of community you can all share. Sorry to hear of your mums situation. That only makes it more complex and perhaps more urgent that you hook up with stronger people. Weaker people will use you, but they too need help too. Get your community together before the system cons you out of the position you are in. You cant sink your life boat at expense of jumping in to save others. God bless you.

I've always been against the possibility of legalising drugs. The sad fact is we've lost our fight against the drugs war. Some of the people we are seeing in this video and others like it have fallen a few rungs down the ladder from what is acceptable in society. Living in squalor with no hope and using a new generation of drugs with unknown consequences is grim. Our cities and towns are in need of a massive reform.
I disagree. Drugs should be legalised. In every country that has legalised drugs you see less crimes related to drug use, you see a huge reduction in long term addiction, you see less organised crime syndicates making money from vulnerable people. You see less violent crimes as often violent crimes are related to drugs and gangs selling drugs. I could mention many positive outcomes in countries where drugs are legal. One of the biggest positives is you don’t see any where near as many people on the streets off their head on these newer drugs like spice.
Anyone that wants to legalise drugs has obviously never had addicts as neighbours... The 24/7 disregard for neighbours wouldn't end because they could buy them legally.It would be an even bigger hell because there would be no recourse.

It’s horribly sad because the support and help people get isn’t all done at the same time. There is no package of care for these people when they do try to reintegrate so even though there is help on one side it fails on the other. For some just being given a council house is not enough, there has to be a huge amount of additional support to go with it, but because all the mental health services are underfunded they cannot cope. It’s a sad state of affairs and I can only assume it will get worse. Amazing work you do mate, keep showing this stuff so people see it.
Meanwhile over the water from Lpool the Village Hotel , which is at least a 4 star is home to many people who aren’t British . It’s an absolute disgrace but that is Britain in 2024.😥. I am not far right I’m just right . Go and see for yourself if you doubt what I say.
I grew up not far from Stoke in the next county, and expect its much the same across the country. Rich exploiting the poor and disposing of them when got their riches from their labour. I took the step to nature and glad I did, not all glitters is gold or the latest car, phone, etc.

And TaTa Steel are closing Dow., they bought the company years ago with the soul intention of closing it down. 2000 jobs gone and they collected a fortune in grants and support from UK tax payers since 2007..this UK factory produced the finest steal in the world and now it's gone with all those jobs.

No point spending money on Stoke.. the roads around connecting aren't fit for purpose. To get from one end of the city to the other after work is around an hour. You can drive to north Manchester in that time or Birmingham from Junction 15

We saw 5 minutes of them. Not enough to get a good judge of character. A lot of these people are kicked out of shelters for violence, drug use, theft, assaults against women. If you're in a tent generally you've exhausted all other options. Unfortunately this often stems from years of generational abuse leading to people that are near impossible to fix.
campsite with toilets / showers is a tenner a night. in true government style the dole could buy a field and set up their own business profiting from their own benefits payments to these people, provide mail boxes, an address, have a farm shop, charge extra for an allotment with an offer of buying produce. fresh air, walking. vs a shop doorway or horrible & expensive hostel

I've always been against the possibility of legalising drugs. The sad fact is we've lost our fight against the drugs war. Some of the people we are seeing in this video and others like it have fallen a few rungs down the ladder from what is acceptable in society. Living in squalor with no hope and using a new generation of drugs with unknown consequences is grim. Our cities and towns are in need of a massive reform.
I disagree. Drugs should be legalised. In every country that has legalised drugs you see less crimes related to drug use, you see a huge reduction in long term addiction, you see less organised crime syndicates making money from vulnerable people. You see less violent crimes as often violent crimes are related to drugs and gangs selling drugs. I could mention many positive outcomes in countries where drugs are legal. One of the biggest positives is you don’t see any where near as many people on the streets off their head on these newer drugs like spice.
Anyone that wants to legalise drugs has obviously never had addicts as neighbours... The 24/7 disregard for neighbours wouldn't end because they could buy them legally.It would be an even bigger hell because there would be no recourse.

It's already been proven that if you educate kids early, 7 year olds, against drugs, it reduces the number of users when they get older. A 15 minute teaching slot against drug use, once a week would cost next to nothing. But MPs kids don't go to inner city schools.

It’s horribly sad because the support and help people get isn’t all done at the same time. There is no package of care for these people when they do try to reintegrate so even though there is help on one side it fails on the other. For some just being given a council house is not enough, there has to be a huge amount of additional support to go with it, but because all the mental health services are underfunded they cannot cope.
It’s a sad state of affairs and I can only assume it will get worse.

What’s is happening to this country?.the state of this country =this is real England ,real content !.the government needs to sort it out..but fuelling tax payers money to fight a war is more important to them..we all know It’s a fraction of that cost if they put it into England =housing,drug rehabilitation etc etc etc..to much to say..
The government are right to put money into fighting Putin.,As for money. We’d have more than enough money for the government to be spending money on the things this country needs like affordable housing and fixing the NH S if they taxed the richest more. Simple as that

people should bare in mind he is recording the shit parts of stoke, it gets better the further out of the town centre you get as it does in most cities, it's just most cities have a good city centre with a decent night life where stoke no longer has, it used to be great around 15 to 20 years ago

Lots of nice areas around ,the city centre and Cobridge -Shelton etc have always had problems for a long time -but even with the good areas in stoke it doesn’t excuse the state of our city centre ! The council and MPs should be ashamed !!!
