    Wow this is great! Never thought of trying watermelon. This looks like a nice variety for the smaller hydroponic gardens.

    I’m so excited to try this seed because I haven’t had any luck with the sugar baby watermelon 🍉

      Go for it.😀 I too failed with Sugar Baby but this one worked out well. However, I do have a few learnings from this experiment about nutrition and pollination so I wanted to try sugar baby one more time sometime in the nearby future.

    You should trim the plant to help it focus its energy on developing those fruits.

    • @aerogardenexperiments
      @aerogardenexperiments  5 месяцев назад +1

      Not a good idea for watermelon plants. I see the watermelon leaves age out so quick and start to dry up. So we need to let the plant come up with new and fresh growth to help with photosynthesis and help the development of fruits.
      I do agree that trimming the plants help some varieties like tomatoes, cucumbers, etc.

    Science direct says pollen can be viable for up to 4 weeks at room temperature and up to 40 days if Refridgerated. Have you tried a Q-tip to collect pollen? Then you can store it for a while for when you don't have flowers of both sexes.

      I am loving your videos! I’m getting to be an old man. I have been gardening since I was a child. I bought my first areogarden about a year ago. I have a regular harvest model and I grow tomatoes in it. I also have a slim model I grow lettuce in. I am absolutely amazed at the amount of food I have grown /produced in such a short period of time and in such a small area! Thank you so much for posting these videos!

    I'm very curious to see if its' own seeds will actually produce !
    That would be fascinating to see ! 🍉

      Since these fruits formed with proper pollination, the seeds extracted from these watermelons should work.

    AerogardenExperiment with all your experimentation, have you discovered if PH was really that important? in my house the water is PH 8. i have started growing plants and strangely my tomatoes are starting to suffer. i have other things and they seems alright in comparison.

    I suspect that due to the low volume of nutrient in the reservoir and fast growth rate of the fruits some elements in the solution are being fully depleted thereby causing the problems you see.

    Thanks for your video. Is this unit similar to the farm ? How many capfuls of the small miracle grow is 5 ml I think my tomatoes aren’t growing bc not enough nutrients

    • @aerogardenexperiments
      @aerogardenexperiments  5 месяцев назад +1

      1 capful is 4ml. Regarding this system, it is close to Bounty with much bigger bowl.

    Armadillos looking for earthworks made a mess of my outdoor garden last year and wiped out my melon plants. I got FIVE pounds of the hottest cayenne pepper they sell. LOL! Hopefully that, garlic powder, and homemade pine sap scent I made by putting huge sap chunks in a jar with 70% alcohol will ruin their sense of smell or make them stay away. I like armadillos and don`t want to harm them. But it has to stop. I need food.

    Have you ever tried MI Gardener's Midget Cantaloupe in AG by chance? 🍈

      Not yet. Not MI Gardener's Midget variety, but I have plans to try cantaloupe in Aerogarden. I have a few cantaloupe seeds already and I might try them sometime soon.

    Did u ever use a fan to spread the pollen ? Does it work ?

    • @aerogardenexperiments
      @aerogardenexperiments  5 месяцев назад +1

      I don't think the fan works for cross pollination. It will only help the self pollinating flowers.

    • @Francois_Dupont
      @Francois_Dupont 5 месяцев назад +1

      i grew cucurbita pepo for a long time outside and it never successfully pollinated by itself. even the inserts didnt do their jobs. the only time it grew fruits is when i did it myself.

    Question:
    Can the male flower be used to pollinate MORE than one female flower? Maybe 2 or 3? Or use 1X then throw out? 🍉

    • @aerogardenexperiments
      @aerogardenexperiments  5 месяцев назад +1

      Same male flower can be used for multiple female flowers but I doubt the pollen will be sufficient to make it work. Unless we are low on male flowers, we should stick to 1:1.

    Re the AG Bounty:
    If i planted ONE seed in it, what MODE do you suggest to grow these watermelons? 🍉

    • @aerogardenexperiments
      @aerogardenexperiments  5 месяцев назад +1

      Tomatoes or peppers garden type should work. 15-16 hours of light per day will be sufficient.

  • @sunset6010
    @sunset6010 5 месяцев назад

    What size should these watermelons be, ideally? 🍉

    • @aerogardenexperiments
      @aerogardenexperiments  5 месяцев назад +2

      They are mini in general but surely grow double the size of what I got in hydroponics. According to MIGardener's description, they grow up to 3lbs. The biggest one I got was ~1lb.

    That’s why my plants have been dying, fruit and flower mode.

    • @aerogardenexperiments
      @aerogardenexperiments  5 месяцев назад +3

      Yeah, I wish they get rid of that fruits mode to avoid confusion and misuse of it.
