Oh my God I just happened to watch Violet Evergarden and it was unbelievable!!! I had no idea it was from KyoAni. I'm going to watch A Silent Voice sometime in the near future.
We shud donate to the heal Kyoani campaign in return for them brining us such beautiful cinematic animation after they got attacked by the arson several artists, directors, and other workers were killed and or injured. #prayforkyoani
I fully support your dream of working there. And thank you for sharing why you love this studio. After having watched Silent Voice and Violet Evergarden, I’m interested in watching more of their work. But it is quickly becoming my favorite animation studio, tied only with Studio Ghibli. 🙏🏻
Ok so the first comment I left was just after a quick glimpse of the first few minutes because I wasn't at home. Now that I've seen the rest I have quite a lot more to say lol. Amazing. Great editing, natural scripting, transitions felt smooth as silk. You did an outstanding job getting me interested in every single title you covered and made me truly understand your admiration for the studio. You're doing all the right things, I hope this video gets tons of recognition and good luck on your future with your dream job.
Kyoto Animation's Studio 1 was set on fire morning of July 18 by an arsonist. 33 dead, 35 injured. Why a studio that was exemplary amongst the industry could have it's employees deserve such a way to go is beyond me. I'm devastated. Rest in peace to the victims. I hope KyoAni comes back strong again, stronger than the fire.
I thought the art in Violet Evergarden was amazing and now I get why that is... I love the appearance and visual/audio art of all these shows you've shown, but I have such a low tolerance for anime silliness that I couldn't possibly enjoy them. Violet Evergarden was serious but sweet, deep, and it had the same artistic life that you can only find in moe! What a gem.
100% agree Today KyoAni is a different beast from what it used to be, still, Clannad remains my favourite anime of all time and it's great to look back to some episodes and realise that the "KyoAni" touch hasn't changed at all, while they have evolved alongside technology (for example, Tamako Market's op, at 0:24 shows Tamako running exacltly as in Clannad After Story's ending). Visual storytelling is where they shine, whatever the anime they make
No, KyoAni _touch_ has been changed, at least lately with Euphonium series and Violet Evergarden, at least in direction style. Their basic style was basically nakige-ish direction, thanks to the influence of KeyAnime. Made light-hearted episodes (or what people said as forced moe episodes) early to make you invest with the characters, then after that they pulled the drama to conclude the story (or what people said as forced drama episodes). Look how it worked most of the time, Tamako Love Story, Disappearance of Haruhi and CLANNAD After Story, those were the masterpiece that they ever made. All of them was firstly introduced with the light-hearted arc(s). Some might said Hyouka was the masterpiece, but for me Hyouka lacked of characterisation which was indeed Takemoto's weakness. However when Takemoto got to direct a series which the characters already introduced, the series became really really great (Lucky Star, Disappearance of Haruhi, Fumoffu). But that's another story to tell. But now, they tried to change it on Euphonium series and Violet Evergarden. Which was... some people might like it, or hated it. I happened to be the latter since I need to invest to the characters first to be able to feel with the characters. Unironically enough, I prefer Ishidate's lucklaster Kyokai no Kanata, than his Violet Evergarden, as I understood the characters better on the former than the latter since well you should know the reason if you read this post already. I also ironically liked Phantom World despite having lucklaster episodic plots, because the same reason. I think I would continue to watch Free S3 since I already invested my time to know the characters well on Utsumi's Free and Free S2 despite the first episode already has serious-tone on it. Well, it's just my 2 cents.
This was a fantastic video. I'm glad to know that KyoAni means so much to you. They mean a lot to me, too. I couldn't help but notice that this is the last video you've uploaded. Since you've uploaded this video a lot has happened. From the last episodes of violet evergarden releasing, as well as two violet evergarden movies, to Liz and the Blue Bird, and even some unpleasant events which can't be forgotten. I'm sure you have a busy life, and might not have the time to make videos like you used to, but if by chance you do have the opportunity, I would love to hear more about your thoughts on KyoAni's works, as well as the studio as a whole. I hope you're doing well, with whatever you are doing, and wanted to let you know that this video brightened my morning. Thanks for sharing your thoughts three and a half years ago. The words you spoke are still being appreciated by many people that happen to stumble upon this video even today. : )
Thank you so much for telling me that. Brightening up somebody's day is all I could ever hope for. Yeah, it has been a tough 3.5 years, I was in Animation school during the making of the video. I then quickly jumped in and out of working studio jobs. Now I'm back to myself, I can't tell you how many times check the comments. I'm glad there are viewers as wholesome as you. I have been on and off working on new videos. Mental health hasn't made it easy, but I do plan on coming back to this and taking this more seriously than ever. Just don't hold your breathe.
I'm not going to lie I love this studio but most of there animes are boring as heeeelllll. Usually, the only time I watch them is when people are obsessing over a certain show or If the animation looks tremendously good. My favs are Violet, Free!, The sound of Voice, Tsurune (
I must say amagi brilliant park and melanchony of haruhi were some of the less enjoyable kyoani productions for me. Melanchony of Haruhi was definitely a good anime story wise, but it just doesn't keep me engaged enough for longer periods of time. Good but not for me. Amagi Brilliant park was like meh okay. It wasn't good, it wasn't bad, it was just mediocre or boring imo. I could watch it through unlike with Melachony of Haruhi, but at the same time I literally have nothing left in my mind from it. Its just so mediocre that It felt like a most generic anime ever, while the atmosphere the anime created was freaking boring also
Why i love KyoAni?
Great op/ed
Great animation and art style
Great Story
Best Character design
Great Characters
And of course Cute girls 😍
man, everytime I see A Silent Voice and the track "lit" starts playing, I ALWAYS tear up. Great video my guy!
kyoani is a one of a kind studio whose heart in what they create can never be replicated, or replaced ♡
