Honestly, I'm probably not the first to say this, but I have mixed feelings on the mod. These elevators just aren't the same without the Series 1, the robotic voice, and may be a tiny bit bland to the casual observer. However, in no way am I saying that it's a terrible mod, in fact, OTIS did a great job with it. The new fixtures seem to really add to these elevators, and gives them more of a modern feel. Nonetheless, they still seem like cool elevators, made to last even longer for more generations to come.
Do you remember when these elevators were red?
alpalJL Vaguely...seems like yesterday that these were painted to the current color (back in 2007 or so). Not that I disliked the red, but the current color seems to fit in with the modern upgrades of the rest of the place (or maybe I'm just so used to seeing it this current color).
I would definitely agree with you on the elevators, but with the condition and feel of the rooms and public spaces, the place NEEDED to be renovated. I've stayed here both back in 2011 and 2016, and my 2016 stay was FAR better than the first stay. I do wish they kept the elevators original, but they are still pretty fun. I do remember seeing videos when the elevators were red.

Those elevators freaked me out...
The ACME floor indicators don't seem to be holding up as well as they do on ThyssenKrupp elevators
But the LCD ones are.
The first elevator definitely needs some servicing sounds like the rails need to be oiled and possibly the pulleys and other moving parts and maybe time for new cables.
I think the hoist ropes are a possibility, being a high rise building will have a gear-less traction machine with 1:1 roping, the noises might be worn groves/bearings (need to be re-greased) on the driven sheave or the deflector sheaves. Maybe the bearings in the hoist motor itself.
do these elevators run aside from the destination dispatch elevators?

These are really nice elevators! Tho I find it weird the the voice doesn’t say the floor number. It just says “going up” and “going down”.

I believe they do from time to time. After all, you can watch TV if you get stuck in the elevator. Haha 😂😂😂😂
