Most honest explanation of the epoxy process out there. To anyone out there thinking of DIYing this, yes it really is back breaking, and yes it will be dusty. If the prep seems easy, you most likely are not doing it right.
helped my dad do our garage in a previous house and we did it with the floor wet which made dust almost non existent. we also used a planetary floor grinder and just used angle grinder for tight spots.
There are special concrete grinders with wheels and stuff. They are very expensive, at least the decent ones, but you can rent them. Your back and future you will definitely thank you.
I'm rewatching this on my phone again. I'm probably going to watch this on my laptop later. I'm sitting through multiple ads (I've never done this before on RUclips), liking every video and subbed. When I get some money I'll buy a sticker, maybe I'll buy two. I hope somehow my efforts hel0 get you knocked through the algorithm. Please keep making videos. This is replacing the void since Grand Tour ended.
I work in a technical capacity for a floor coatings distributor and I want to express appreciation for the quality of your prep. Most videos in the floor coatings space are bad or ill informed, but not yours. This is a good video. Thanks metal DIY guy.
Love the black metal construction tutorials. I have resisted epoxy for years in my garage due to the high chance I'd miss a spot and it would peel. I may just one day suffer thru installing 500 sq ft of porcelain tile in there.
I NEEED more of that RIFFAGE at 4:20. Fantasticaliy informative as always and right at the perfect moment when I need to fix a badly made porch floor at my house.
Started painting in the mid 70's. Oil paints were still big then. Everyone always had a thinner soaked rag close at hand to cleanup drip etc accidents. Every new guy put the rag in his back pocket and forgot about it until his cheek started to burn. Most of us have also stepped off a ladder into a 5 gallon bucket of paint. We learn. Great video making btw!
@Nbomber When the State declared oils personna non grata I grabbed up 11 gallons of interior oil semi. The stuff works too good to abandon. I have enough for my house and a few good old customers - for a while. The hybrids are great for a dozen reasons but just don't flow like good ole' oil.
I came across your channel with the DIY Basement Slab video, and I was hooked. It's so nice watching somebody who knows what they are doing, and someone who actually cares about the process and quality of the final product. Awesome videos man! edit: AND someone with such a good taste in music.
Wow my first new upload hell yeah!! I just found your channel last week and my gf and I have been BINGING your video library (and discography) Stoked to catch a new upload on day 1 and obliterate that like button while annihilating the comment box for engagement metrics. You rock 🤟
Dude none of your projects corelate with my home DIY projects, but you have the most enjoyable home DIY content I've seen on this platform, and I know your videos will come in handy for me some day
You’re a visionary my man, don’t ever stop the youtube game. Your vids will explode if the algo grabs hold. A video I’d love to see is about that computer room/editing area setup, but I get it if thats too sacred to share
Honestly the old computers are in storage awaiting the day for a proper display and only come out for editing suite pickup shots. What you're describing may merit a video one day.
Lovely work, I’ve been in construction (carpentry) since I was 16, my Grandpap installed his own epoxy coat to his garage when I was just born and when I was getting into his business it still looked shiny like new. There’s no doubt professional hard work gets it done right.
Strange but I like watching your videos partly because of how deep a mess you get into and manage to get out of by the end. And the cement mixer falls.
theres nothing more expensive than doing it for cheap. such a good piece of advice. Hope to see you do some remodeling of your bathroom! I need to do mine soon
I really enjoy this channel. Got super excited when I saw a new upload. Thanks for putting in the effort to set shots up while doing this BACKBREAKING work... Seriously, I'm 24 and my back would twinge 30 seconds into that grinding. I'd be duct taping a broom handle to that angle grinder or something... Love the content mate x
Glad to see another video. Honestly love your humor, seriously underrated RUclips channel. After watching the grinder work alone, I'd rather pay someone to do it for me. The dust and back aches is not my cup of tea.
Man watching this makes me think I didn't do enough when I did my floor in my bedroom earlier this year and it took me 3 days working on and off to get it prepped because the builders used the floor to paint other things on.
It's a little pedantic, but there's one thing worth adding. The timing for when you do the work can matter, especially for clear coats on surfaces that experience temperature changes. Concrete expands as it heats up, and it pulls in gas as it does. Once it starts cooling down, concrete off-gasses which can lead to bubbles and a hazy top coat. It's not necessary for every project (for example, it'd be unnecessary for a basement job) but it is one of the things to consider for an outdoor project.
Doing an entire basement with the 7inch grinder is crazy work. Also the dust is absolutely manageable! Local place rented me a standing floor grinder that made light work of the job, and a HEPA grade shop vac kept the dust more than in check (until I forgot to actually seal the bag to the hose intake and wrecked my filter). Great vid though
I thought I missed a basement video between this one and the basement slab one so I went to your page but all I found was a video of you vacuuming wasps. This channel is hilarious.
I'm loving your videos. You have to do a noir private investigator theme where you track down the man leaving pennies in your house. And bring his crimes of sub par work to light.
As someone that's been through this nightmare on an entire house I have the most valuable tip for anyone going about it this way. DO NOT coat the existing concrete. Instead, use a self leveling specialty concrete and cover the whole floor first. The new stain or epoxy will bond better and look like you installed it over a new slab. Added benefit is the floor will be perfectly flat and smooth as well.
I will confirm that this man Mujin is 100% dead on with this video, this man may not be now but most certainly was an industrial coater lol sorry about your past sir! I myself also do not want to coat things anymore lol 😂
If you do want to attempt this and it isn’t immediately obvious to you: WEAR A RESPIRATOR. You don’t want concrete dust getting into your lungs. Gnarly stuff. Only commenting because Müjin is wearing one in the video when he’s grinding the floor but doesn’t explicitly mention it. A P100 respirator should do the trick. I worked for a company that did similar floor installations and that’s what we used. Otherwise, great video!
As someone who's been brought up by stingy people and to be stingy... I have to agree hard with 'there's nothing more expensive than doing it cheap'. It's a struggle to break out of this mold and value paying for a proper job. With my personal projects, being cheap almost always ends up biting me.
buddy of mine does this kinda work, he uses one of those lay on roll carts when stripping the floors, rolls around with the shop vac he's pretty lazy says he likes his back not sure how level the floors are after but no complaints so far from what i've heard.
150 years from now, the world has been destroyed by nuclear war 5 times, but one thing remains shining hope for the remaining survivors, this dudes concrete floor.
If you had a new slab )60 days old )that got sheet rock mud all over it would like a 100 grit polishing disk be sufficient instead of actually grinding the surface? I like the look up the slab bun just need a cleanup and some “tooth”
I wouldn't last an hour doing that grinding. The planetary is overkill, but surely there's a way to weld a damn metal pipe to that grinder and use it while standing up?! Or do you feel you'd lose too much control over it, doing that? Awesome video as always. Your projects push well past hobby/DIYer grade and make me more eager to tackle smaller projects myself.
They do make caddies like you're describing for hand grinders with castors - some even have a built-in vacuum (hand grinders are meant to be used for "cutting in" around walls an obstacles). I've seen bigger companies use them but never tried myself. You could use the 20amp planetary, it would probably just take a little longer.
Okay guys, CORRECTION: They're polycrystalline diamond wheels, NOT pitch circle diameter. My bad!
forgiven
Unforgivable, unsubscribed, unliked, unwatched.
One of the most underrated channels on RUclips. Can’t wait to see him hit 1M subscribers someday.
That's what I've been saying. His production value is insane and he's genuinely funny without being over the top AND he's very knowledgeable.
Dude fr
Doubt, reddit millennials are far to unlikable. If you don't get it you never will
Most honest explanation of the epoxy process out there. To anyone out there thinking of DIYing this, yes it really is back breaking, and yes it will be dusty.
If the prep seems easy, you most likely are not doing it right.
that grinding at the beginning looks utterly backbreaking
I've done it to level my floor for vinyl panels and it wasn't that bad. Lack of dust collection was.
helped my dad do our garage in a previous house and we did it with the floor wet which made dust almost non existent. we also used a planetary floor grinder and just used angle grinder for tight spots.

Drop everything, Müjin has uploaded!!!!
+1
you should know that you’re now in the select group of youtubers that make me genuinely excited on new uploads
Honored ❤️
same here fr

This is the most Detroit channel ever it's beautiful

You rock 🤟
I think we've all got a "finished-the-job-in-my-underwear" story. Yours made me SOL (Smile Out Loud).
I will probably undertake none of these projects but your content is hilarious and entertaining. Subbed
Dude none of your projects corelate with my home DIY projects, but you have the most enjoyable home DIY content I've seen on this platform, and I know your videos will come in handy for me some day
Never seen a basement I’d wanna be locked in more. Drop down the lotion, m’lord.
The goat back with another classic

I love your videos so much. I learn something every time, but I always have to rewind because I laughed through the informational stuff 😅
I still owe you $4
@mujinmakes I've been seething about that.
my DIY stops at servicing brakes, changing outlets, and building computers but I really appreciate the depth and detail you go into with these things.
Strange but I like watching your videos partly because of how deep a mess you get into and manage to get out of by the end. And the cement mixer falls.
Dude that gigantic drill press at the beginning is the same model that my dad had in his shop when I was growing up. Talk about a nostalgia trip!
No one makes hard work and DIY feel as approachable as Mujin.
Thank you for the laughs and educating me on something else I never want to tackle 😂
Great video. My uncle knocked the valve off a 500 gallon pickle vat at the vlassic factory on a flooring job. Lot of pickle juice that day.
You deserve a butt load of more views on your videos, considering how entertaining your videos are
Even though I may never do this, it is still good to know in my quest for knowledge. The way you explain is amazing.
Another video from the most authentic RUclipsr on the platform! Also, super helpful for those of us considering/fearing epoxy floor action
theres nothing more expensive than doing it for cheap. such a good piece of advice. Hope to see you do some remodeling of your bathroom! I need to do mine soon

Super excited for another video!
As someone who would love to get better at this, these videos are fantastic! So well produced, fun and informative! Keep it up big guy
Every time i see a new video posted i cant not click it, amazing content
Idk how u dont have 1000000000 subs and views. One day. Keep up the good videos
Glad to see another video. Honestly love your humor, seriously underrated RUclips channel.

top quality humour , music and video moogin
Perfect timing. As I wrap up my current project, I'm thinking ahead to my disaster basement.
Great video. The passion, the craftsmanship, the commentary, and music are great. 👍

You have a spine of steel sir, good work as always!
Blessed HAVOK enjoyer, awesome content as always! The flake toss is especially a great tip
WAKE UP BABE NEW MUJIN UPLOAD
Hey just wanted to say I really appreciate you and your videos.
I ❤ this video! It feels like I’m really learning!
love your stuff dude!!
Few days late but happy thxgiving bro, great video, that floor looked awesome when you were done.
The riffs around 420 were HEAVY
God, I love this man.
I love you too
Oh I wish I had this in my garage!
holy shit this is the part of youtube that you find once or twice in a lifetime
Informative and entertaining. Thanks!
I'm loving your videos. You have to do a noir private investigator theme where you track down the man leaving pennies in your house. And bring his crimes of sub par work to light.
You know it's a good day when someone mentions Havok!

I just found your channel, thanks for the laughs. Keep it up.
😂 dude, what a great mix of informative and entertaining.
You sure do harbour a lot of narrowly relevant information about epoxy floor coating
Good work señor Müjin
Didn't know I needed to see this process, but I'm glad I did.
I love this channel
More projects!!!!! Hurray!
Looking forward to the next project cheif
God speed dude. You had me laughing and learning.
There is nothing more expensive than doing it cheap. Amen, brother.
I got a whiplash cause the jumpcuts to random locations suddenly reminded me of recent vids of Chris Boden (Physicsduck). Neat
Man that Cincinnati press drill is beautiful, am I seeing a lathe in the background too?
Great video!
Cheers
Correct - an early Leblond, in the process of being restored.
@@mujinmakes awesome
I get a giggle thinking about the possibility of him trying to edit this video on that old early 90's AT&T PC! 😃
🌚
With linux and ffmpeg it would be possible.
You're the handy John Cena! You're awesome. Keep it up!
I am never going to epoxy anything. Still watched the whole video for your apathetic/nihilistic tone, sick riffs, and humor. Keep slaying king.

that grinder job is the type a little stool with wheels would be nice for.
Goood stuff, hope to see more vids soon
Fascinating content! Thanks for tutorial Mujin. No Barrel roll this time... but that was probably for the best, especially because MEK is the worst!
The Mujin is speaking, listen and learn
Another helpful and entertaining video!
Müjin is a funny guy
Thank god the algorithm brought me back for the basement chronicles🙏
Premium content with premium humor!!

Should've went with a pigment. That basement looks like a murder scene now lmao. Came out good though. I love your channel. Happy Holidays!
Always a great time.
150 years from now, the world has been destroyed by nuclear war 5 times, but one thing remains shining hope for the remaining survivors, this dudes concrete floor.
Where might i get one of these "Industry Vacs, that suck in the way I want it to" ? Asking for a friend.
Banger!
still can't get over your music

Do you play the guitar in the vids also? Serious shredding!
Love these
