    Hello Brian! The trainstar mini is one of the rc palnes for beginners, You recommended to me. Today I started my maiden flights. What shall I say? Absolutely awsome!!! I´m a really bloody beginner and this kind of mini parkflyer is the right gadget. Only the battery has been the limit today! Now it´s becoming dark outside ;-). I also could not resist to purchase the A800 from XK and this to me is a nightmare :-( I don´t know, what I´m doing wrong. Under the same circumstances,(a little windy), always out of control. For the Volantex absolutely no problem! This one finally landed itself when the battery died. Very great beginners airplane. Loads of fun for the bucks! Regards

      The A800 leaves a LOT to be desired. I wouldn't recommend it as a second plane. Move up to these, when your budget allows, and you will be amazed the difference!!!

    • @BrianPhillipsRC

      This is a GREAT choice, or the Sport Cub 500, another good choice. The F-22 is cool, but way harder to fly. The P-51 again, very cool, but harder to fly...NONE are HARD to fly, just these are easier. All the 6 Axis Gyro planes really fly easy, but if you couple this easy flying with a proper radio transmitter, I can only imagine how amazing you could control and fly them! Kinda like the S720 - flew really poorly with the stock radio, but add the $9.99 SBus Micro Rx, and all of a sudden with the Jumper - It's a superstar!!! I think for a beginner, these planes are a GREAT starting point. If you try to learn on a simulator, you'll have a head start on getting your thumbs and muscle memory down, but flying in the REAL world, is WAY different. Even the best simulator makes flying too "clean"...not sure if that makes sense to you?

    Great job as always!!
    Similar to quads yes but use and flight characteristics produced by the sticks differ quite a bit.
    With roll having the most common reaction of the two. I race FPV quads where left is always left and right is always right. No line of sight reversal. I raced trucks too so i have some of that. Being said, a lot less rudder and more elevator for planes on turns compared to quads. Wind affects a 75-200gm winged object tremendously different. Have to learn to fly with its negative affects to your advantage. A 400-500 gram race quad just powers through.
    You might have to lean a little into the wind but 4 4s 26000kv motors barely blink.
    we have raced in gusts to 30mph.. I know because i have a weather station with a linked anemometer!..with a phone app... lol ... maidened the Timber today..8 batteries half in ASX3
    Everything i just mentioned i learned today..LOL

    Do you think this or the Volantex little cub is better for small field flying? We have some land like you but way more trees. Do you think anyway to permanently "droop" ailerons on the cub to make flaperons? Figure since no way to program that might be able to shorten the control rods on both sides to give a little more camber for slow flight. Thanks Love the videos and the new home!

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  5 лет назад

      I believe the Volantex Sport Cub 500 would be a better choice, but they're both very excellent planes! With the Mini Trinastar, you could cut in fixed flaps for sure! With the Sport Cub 500, you could try that for "flapperons" effect, but the 6 axis gyro will probably fight you a little bit in correcting the elevator...so just be prepared for a small battle in that regard.

    • @cindynelson7538
      @cindynelson7538 5 лет назад +1

      @@BrianPhillipsRC Good point on the gyro. I am waiting for somebody on youtube to come up with a fixed leading edge slat type of mod on the Sport Cub :)

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  5 лет назад

      I did it, but was only marginally successful...but I really only did a simple "droop"...not like on the Timber UMX, for example, with leading edge slat with an airfoil and proper AOA...
      I still think it would be a 5 minute job to chop the flaps on this beauty...then just glue a triangular wedge to set the angle. It would probably pop off when you crashed, but it would be so slow!!! I've almost got myself fired up to do it today ;)

    Hi Brian, I want to ask you which plane would you recommend better, the Volantex Sport Cub 500 or the Volantex -Mini Trainstar? Also want to know if all these plane use the same propeller as the Volantex mini p51? Regards

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  4 года назад

      I'd say the Volantex Sport Cub 500. The props on the P-51 and Sport Cub 500 may be the same...they have the same prop saver system, for sure...

  • @markmisener1207
    @markmisener1207 5 лет назад +1

    Is this a good "first" plane for an 8 year old.? If not, what would you recommend.? P.S. your "camera crew" does an amazing job. Keep up the good work you two

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  5 лет назад +1

      I think this plane would be good, but there will still be a fair amount of frustration. Most 8 years olds have a hard time with commitment, since they're used to tablets and video games, the instant gratification generation (I'm sure you understand).....BUT, that being said, if there's interest, this plane would be very good choice. The Volantex Sport Cub 500 actually tends to be fairly easy to control too. Given it's 4 channels there will be less to "re-learn" if and when the 8 year old is ready for the "next step". I personally hated not having ailerons when I was learning to fly. I FAR preferred 4 channel control, even when I was learning to fly...but that was a bit subjective, and I was a 30+ Year old....not 8.
      Hope this helps. I'll try to answer more questions as they come in, if I can help. Good luck!

    • @markmisener1207
      @markmisener1207 5 лет назад

      I did download an rc simulation game,(absolute rc), on his phone and he's been surprisingly good at it.. It sounds like its worth the investment. My other thought as an option was the hobby zone sport cub s2.. Thanks for getting back to me. Take care Brian.

  • @DuffusMonkey
    @DuffusMonkey 5 лет назад +1

    Winter is coming, Do you ever build planes? I was thinking of gutting one of these planes (probably the 4 channel version) and adding it to a Guillows balsa model. I watched you fly the P51 model your grandfather made and I couldn't have flown it very long without a terrible accident, but adding a stability control system like this would give me the confidence to crash it :)

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  5 лет назад

      You'd want the Sport Cub 500, the four channel one, but keep in mind, they only use one servo for the ailerons. You might want to just get a second "spare" servo, and then use or make a "Y" Cable...then you'll be golden. This plane is also a bit less power, I think different gear ratio in the gearbox.
      Thanks for the comment :)

      It was calm, for one thing. The other was that I moved the Rudder linkage to the INSIDE most hole. This increased the throw on the Rudder, thus more control authority. The rod to the rudder did have to be adjusted a little bit to get the rudder to be centered with neutral controls.
      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
      Во-первых, было спокойно. Другой заключался в том, что я переместил связь с рулем к самой внутренней дыре. Это увеличило бросок на руле, таким образом, больше контроля власти. Стержень к рулю нужно было немного отрегулировать, чтобы руль был центрирован с помощью нейтральных органов управления.
