    Truth be told even as Africans living abroad, when we take a break and go back home to visit, we experience a transactional treatment, our families, friends, people, wants money from us, really bad, and here in abroad we experience racism, the bar of performance is raised so high for immigrants, so we get bashed back to back, once you crossed to live abroad.

    In the US I get to choose my doctors. I am not sure what insurance they had. But I'm happy they found their happiness. Maybe some of the other people out there who despise the system in the US should do the same as these two. ( I'm not saying that they felt this way, but the other people who do). I am African American and I am happy in my country. I would say that socially we are going way the wrong way and should follow Africa in standing up to social issues that degrade society.

    I have lived well in the US. There is a lot of criticism about America in this interview. Maybe this happens to people who are living beyond their means or were not financially stable or with many options.
    When I visit home in East Africa, people hit me up for money all the time. Also, in Africa just like the US, people borrow from money lenders and have mortgages. And yes, they can also forclose on your car or house if you dont pay your bill in Africa. Just like in America, an illness in Africa can also be catastrophic. These are universal challenges.
    Living the village life with having to fetch clean water, deal with droughts, disease, infection, latrines, open sewers, discarded rubish, children beggers, exploited people, corruption, nepotism, electricity blackouts, intermittent internet, rote schooling, manipulative religion, sexism, tribalism.... Yet, if I want to focus on American faults, there are many, exactly the things you listed. If I choose to focus on East African faults, there are also many. So, let's instead also share what is wonderful about both places. I have found the kindest, most caring people in both places and people have prayed with me and cried with me in both places. And we share meals and exchange food from our yards and gardens in both places. I had so many mangoes this summer, that I had free bags hanging on my fence for passers by to take. I dont have bars on my windows and can sleep with windows open at night. I dont have to hire a guard or guard dogs nor worry about someone with a knife slashing my handbag off my shoulder in the market. I have found joy, peace and simplicity in both the US and Africa, which is why I love and live in both places. Perspective.

    • @DivineJEDOR2
      @DivineJEDOR2 11 месяцев назад +4

      Your perspective is right on, thank you for the comment. Nowhere is perfect. The point of this interview was to help inform people who have never been to America and continue to see it only as portrayed on TV or social media. There are enormous costs to living in the US, particularly on your physical and mental health that aren't talked about very often. We would never discourage someone from moving the US, but there is a lot people should know about the US before making the jump if they want the best results.

    • @africaine4889

      Well you should respect opinions of others. If this couple left America it's because it's not working for.them. If the US is working for you good for you. Personally me and my black american husband east africa. America is not for both of us especially for our children. Lots of Africans doing well aren't interested in living in America, me included.

      The oppresors like Europe and US has and continue to plunder Africa, which has contributed to underdevelopment. China has an ulterior motive but at least they have improved some infrastructure.
      US and Eu r no less corrupt than African leaders.

    Been to seattle and washington state. Very green, very beautiful, mountains and the atlantic, good people on the overall, but the continuous, drizzle, the gray plate, I get it . The north west USA is actually the better part of the USA. As an adult Kenyan, I was unable to hack it. The pressure cooker, the fast, timed spaced and counted...
    It is a perfect mix, a very good balanced objective and informed opinion. My children want to go ""abroad" majuu...It would do them some good, but my worry is if it might break them at the same time.
    For the farm boy from the North west of the USA, kaa ngumu, Kenya is not perfect, but the challenges and possibilities, immense. The American work ethic is great, keep it intact, It is essential. Raise those children, if possible get a couple more, make friends, pass on the solid qualities you have earned etc life is good on average

    You are so elegant, my job in the airline industry I worked as a model for the airline i worked for back then it was wonderful. Then after i left them I had my own boutique and i went to Paris for buying twice per annum. I saw an African show in Paris during market week it was out of this world I still have photos of that show and seeing you now reminds me of back then. Your husband can also model even now and the boys. You need to pay visit to Paris. Talk. About expensive. Paris but you will make the money to sustain your lifestyle back home in Kenya . You should have. Create a Portfolio of the family individually and have them ready for when ever you travel you are able to show them. When ever you are in Paris you can rent a small place whilst working then when it is over then you go back home. Food for thought for the Pret a Porter shows twice. A year the huge designers shows you will always have them . The sky is the limit for you two. I know that you can do it. Keep practicing your art work. I will continue to encourage you both. I did some but there was so much stigma attached to it for me from family members it partially killed some of my dreams but hope is still in my heart still at an old age. I accomplished some of it. My dear passed away in 2013 so there is a huge void. Don’t keep working at your craft. You have two beautiful boys. They will bring you guys the joy you need. We had no children together but he had two by a previous marriage. I am alone.

    Health insurance is expensive every where in the world but governments need. to come together so that there is a national insurance can pay the doctors in the event of illnesses the hospitals are too expensive as well. It actually starts with the medical schools they have to pay back loans for their education sometimes ten to 15 years they have to pay back. So it comes from the public funds. Then they want to get married and life. Pretty good social lifestyle where does it come from we the public. 😮😊

    Most Kenyan schools have changed a lot in the way the deal with students especially private schools. They no longer cane children and if your child goes through the Montessori system they encourage personal expression unlike before when they said children were to be seen and not heard! For the most part children in school only talked to teachers when talked to.

      We would never discourage someone wanting to go to America for the economic opportunities there, but there is a huge cost that is rarely talked about. Combing the American income with African way of life and cost of living is a great way to structure things in our modern society - the best of both worlds.

    Thats because America is a Corporation that runs on capitalism and greed. There is alot of poverty in America. I dont mean necessarily financial poverty but there are alot of Empty souls and a lack of Spirituality. Humanity and Spirituality are NOT priority in America. But I come from a Culture. I am Indigenous Native American (Wabanaki) English is my second language. I love My people. We are UNIFIED and Our Beliefs are much different from the Colonized America. We are rich with Love, Humanity, Spirituality and Culture. ❤
