    I honestly really loved how they portrayed Sokrates in this game. Questioning ourselves more so than others. It felt really fun to discuss things with him. I wish we could get more of his questions. Really love this game.

      My thing is, why is this form of idealism considered "classical." I have a friend who's heard of sokrates based on ppl saying he sounds like him, but he himself has not actually explored sokrates. The fact my friend was able to delve into, understand, and create this thinking through friendships and hard thought; now to find out that there was a very similar person thousands of years prior to his own birth, has blown his mind, not to mention, I myself being an impact on him with the same lack of knowledge that sokrates was so much similar to him. Point this is trying to make, is that my friend is no where near the classical type. Tho he may have grown up in a very similar fashion. Perhaps that plays a role into having this mindset.

      Lovers? If I’m not mistaken, didn’t Socrates turn down Alcibiades billions of times because although Socrates was capable of feeling arousal he was above carnal pleasures? Didn’t Socrates always mock Alcibiades’s advances exactly as he did in the game? Wasn’t Socrates along with Plato and Aristotle against the act of pederasty because they feared it would affect the young and therefore all they did with teens was teach? Wasn’t Alcibiades frustrated when Socrates demonstrated some kind of attention towards attractive men because Alcibiades couldn’t get into Socrates’ pants? In the symposium Socrates was aroused by a 30 year old man, which wasn’t accepted by Alcibiades, however it specifically said Socrates although horny doesn’t act upon those thoughts even though they were the cultural norm. Alcibiades and Socrates weren’t much lovers, they were student and teacher, but the student made a million advances that were never reciprocated as far as I know, anyone have a link on actual evidence of Socrates partaking in Pederasty? Because I’ve only found the exact opposite

      @@baran3284 According to several sources, Sokrates, when asked by his friends moments before drinking the poison what they should do with his body, he said something along the lines of "My body does not matter. The one lying on the ground after I'm dead is not Socrates. Do whatever you want with it.".
      He saw death merely as the separation of the soul and the body. The body, in his eyes, was a negative aspect of existence, blurring our clarity and hindering our wisdom.
      He believed death was a gateway to true wisdom, since the soul can only attain truth when the body is gone.

    • @Sich97
      @Sich97 4 года назад +8

      @@PharaohofCulture
      First of all, I agree with you that it is a common view in many religions that the body, or bodily desires, are a source of suffering in some way or another. This is common in eastern religion too, but I would say there's less frequency of it. Taoism for example, embraces the body and doesn't view it as a hindrance. Buddhism as well (as far as I know). Hinduism on the other hand, doesn't view the body as being essentially negative, but they do see it as something to overcome / master.
      Idk what you meant by "that guy", but I hope you won't mind me sharing my comparison between Sokrates and religion. The way I see it, Sokrates wasn't religious. He believed in gods, but that's different than being religious. The reason his ideas sound religious to us is because we in modern times are mostly accustomed to empiricism (knowledge through observation). So any idea about that which we cannot observe, like anything that has to do with soul/god/life after death/etc, seems religious. Really it's just not-so-popular beliefs. I would call something religious if it involves a certain set of rules on how to act/think/what to believe. Sokrates is a rare and good example of the opposite, his ideas were his own (supposedly).

    • @PharaohofCulture
      @PharaohofCulture 4 года назад +1

      @@Sich97 that's quiet interesting actually!
      Not gonna lie I find the way in which Eastern and Western religions can be quiet contradicting yet find similar grounds to be intriguing. What I mean to say is that both sides share the view of valuing the body, but Westerners in the same vein however also value the soul, and I know that in some denominations of the soul tends to be valued more than the body (that isn't to say that the body is irrelevant, but can perhaps be held at a higher standard(?))
      Also when I say that guy, I just mean the one that brings religion in conversation cause some people online genuinely hate including it in discussions.

      Sebastian Sosa I guess because we speak English? Or because we speak English as our mother tongue? Or because we’ve had enough life experience to interact with numerous peoples from numerous different areas and thus have numerous different accents?

      He means Socrates’ concepts, not his pronunciations, I think. I believe in the modern world we’re taught to be concrete, not think outside the box. We’re basically dumbed down by our rules, put in a box by our rulers

    Socrates' questions never end, because his goal is always to try to convince Alexios of what he doesn't know. And, as the condition for knowledge to exist is that we never know everything, Socrates remains in this eternal question. I don't consider this wise. I think that wisdom consists of striving to live according to what one believe instead of trying to have all the answers to everything that happens...

    • @cacadordenarcisistas4235
      @cacadordenarcisistas4235 2 года назад +1

      @iGoH Summ3rs But I said the same that you said... The questioning is endless, because the ultimate truth is never found! However, this endless reflection is not able to guide human beings to find the truth within themselves. That's why I don't think it's wise to keep questioning something to seek what you already know, that something isn't true.
      Instead, try to live up to what you believe and realize that it will always apply only to you, your beliefs, and never to others. Because then you will understand that, as Socrates did, any attempt to provoke reflection with the intention of generating doubt only has an effect, when those who do not think the same as you do not know what you do. This explains why any kind of knowledge coming from someone else will always be fail...

    17:23 18:59 we are all equal in our potential to do good so i say every life is equal to another. Some people have a harder journey in realizing their potential to do good and it is up to the society to foster them on the path while limiting their ability to take away others potential to do good. A Murderer has the same potential as had their victim for example but do you allow the murderer to be free to act? murder by definition is the unsanctioned termination of another human life and only the society as a whole has the authority to determine that sanction. Killing in self-defense is wrong for instance under this logic but does that mean you punish the one who took the life? I say punishment is pointless and wasteful of potential and all acts can be lessons and opportunities to meet our potential for good. We all need help in this and we can all learn from each other.

    • @ServusDeiNostri
      @ServusDeiNostri 3 года назад

      But in that freedom to act, evil (murder, thievery, etc) will be much more available and plentiful. With the threats of society's general laws, it keeps people in line under pressure. Even Socrates was known to follow the law. The law is there to prevent an implosion of lawlessness.
