I think it's odd you point out Adam Driver's bravery in those specific scenes, when Jodie Comer basically puts her heart on her sleeve in what could be deemed as a traumatic experience on its own, simulated or not. I honestly think shes the entire emotional core of this movie, which is a huge feat, and she nails it. Granted I think this was done on purpose, but still.
Not sure if you’ve seen Kingdom of Heaven yet but I’d say that is Ridley Scott’s best work in the 21st century. Too bad the theatrical version turned many people off and caused a stigma about the movie but the director’s cut is a masterpiece. The Last Duel is also a great one.

The novel 'The Last Duel: A True Story of Crime, Scandal, and Trial by Combat' looks right up my alley. Time to add it to the over-growing stack of books I want to read. Reading 'The Exorcist' right now. As far as 'Killing Eve' goes, I've been meaning to get caught up years.

I see this has been given an 18 rating in the UK which really surprised me after seeing the pretty generic, soap opera trailer. Perhaps Scott’s first 18 rated movie since Hannibal? Much more intrigued now.
In comparison to other films of a similar caliber in terms of blood, gore and general violence, The Last Duel isn't that bad. In comparison, it received a rating of "16 and older" in Germany, where an "only adults" rating exists and that does see a fair bit of use (28 Days Later, Kill Bill, Sin City and Fight Club carry that one, for example). I wager the deciding factor to make it "adults only" in the UK are the stipulations regarding the depiction of sexual coercion: The 18 rating targets "material deemed likely to encourage an interest in 'sexually abusive' activity", as well as passing off rape as in any way encouraged by the victim. In the movie are two detailed depictions of rape: one from the POV of the rapist, which supposedly depicts the woman making only customary protests while actually welcoming the man's advances (or so the rapist claims for the sake of the plot, the accompanying images of the act itself are as obviously rape as during the depiction of the woman's own POV where she denies consent and tries to fend him off), as well as one depiction of the husband insisting on intercourse immediately upon hearing his wife was recently raped (he literally says something along the lines of "I won't have him be the last man to have taken you").
Personally i don't even qualify gladiator as his top 3 movie. This one imo is ahead of gladiator. Imo this rivals martian as his 3rd best but not as good as blade runner or alien.
