This movie is such a moment in time. MJF was so young on top of the world. And David Foster’s score just compliments it’s so much. You just have to enjoy every moment of your life. It goes so fast.

80’s were the best. Unless your teen years were the 70’s. Or 90’s, or 60’s. Or 00’s. Etc… It’s amazing how people always fail to spot that it’s being young that they miss. They think that it was the decade that was great rather than the fact that they were young then. Still, the 80’s were objectively the best.

The things i love about this particular scene is how lovely the smitten and proud look in aunt Vera expression when watching Brantley charmed all the guest that he just met. In my opinion, the late Margaret Whitton was a scene stealer in this movie. Not to mention very gorgeus .

I love this movie, it totally influenced and changed my life. Growing up on the countryside in Bavaria, southern Germany I totally could relate to the story of Brantley Foster from Kansas who goes to the big city to chase after his dreams in far away America. I watched the movie for the first time when I was 8 in 1991 in German TV and since then wanted to be like this guy, believing that everything is possible. I loved the positivity of the movie and the uplifting tone. Today, I`m 30 years older, managing director of my own company and always chased after my dreams. All this, set off with this wonderful movie and its hopeful positive vibe...

I think we loved the eighties because we were young and innocent and life was fresh and exciting. I think this movie inspired a lot of us to go and work in the financial markets. I only worked there briefly and realised that it wasn't nearly as romantic as the movie made out. I still love reminiscing about the 80s and this movie is was one of my favourites. I love Vera's facial expression at 1.03. 80s music and movies were the best!!!

If u can notice but at 1:35, even though Vera is still physically attracted to Brantley, she's looking at him for the first time being proud of her nephew, him controlling the crowd with his knowledge of a better future for business, his ideas and suggestions for what can make companies better cause he has the passion and the pedigree for it, all it took was the right person to lead him to the right crowd and now he has them eating out of the palm of his hand :) In the best way possible, him accidentally sleeping with Vera before finding out she was his Aunt and even finding out after the fact was the best thing that could have happened to him :)

The plot of this movie was so unique and offbeat, it had to be successful. Think of the great 80's movies, they were all great because they were fresh - Weird Science, Secret of My Success, Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, etc. They had never done movies about those things before, or targeted that demographic of 12 to 21 year olds. The movies were at the same time contemporary and timeless. This is probably my all-time favorite movie.

I heard this as well. I think Michael J. Fox's movie "For Love or Money" was pretty much the same movie as Secret of My Success. A young guy who wants success and falls for a beautiful woman who is the mistress of his boss (rich, older man). He gets both success and the girl in the end. Both movies take place in NYC but I think The Secret of My Success was a fresher and more energetic movie and was a hit while the other flopped.

yeah, the secret of my success was a great movie, specially that the movie was more focussing in how the character will make it to the top, someting that people love it to see in late 80s movies . also for love of money had a great cast, the movie was very well made, how they present the hotel idea and how Michael J Fox play his character was great, but for some reason the movie flopped, something that i didn't understand, for a 90s, getting the girl and love is what all about since success is not the what the movie really about, but love and having the girl. and again i think if they had done a good promotion for this movie, it would been have a "success" too .

@MeBenHalpin I liked this movie, I like the way things are here addresses Brantley and her being so mad, if he had not been so the film would not be what it is

Great movie. Really, really unrealistic but great movie. Unfortunately there’s no scenario in which a college kid with zero experience shows lifelong business executives how to save their company in his first few days at his first job.

@egoadefonso although Family Ties ended in 1989 and not 1987, I always think of this as the sequel to Family Ties. I could imagine Alex running into such misadventures, except Brantley is less cocky.
