As someone about to turn 46, I've really enjoyed your videos rolling with a variety of belts and body types.. I just earned a 2nd stripe on my white belt, and only now realizing how much there is to learn, to really optimize my positions before submissions.. constantly humbled but look forward to every class.. thank you my friend!
0:55 *BIG CONGRATS to you both!!! Working on dropping 40 lbs (from 265 to 225 - down 5 lbs so far) via BJJ myself. Did it before, but stopped training due to Covid, and it all came back - plus my consistency went out the windows- til now*
This is why I advise to have other activities in ones life. An active lifestyle leads to a better and healthier existence. Good luck with your weight loss!
Very happy to see this one. Most YT instruction videos feature instructors with a partner same size or significantly smaller. I understand why, they need to not wear themselves out while demonstrating the lesson, but I'm 130lb blue belt and like to see demonstration how to deal with big size and strength differential. Most of my training has been with partners 40, 50 lbs. or more heavier. If they are new white belts I do ok, but after they get about 6 months in I can no longer be as passive or reactive, and I have be more proactive, keeping top, superior positioning etc. You are showing many of the ways I do it, only you are much better at it and more aware of more details. With me it's still a lot of trial and error. If they ever get on top their size and gravity make my life miserable, heh.
Thank you! Yes you don't want Remi on top of you. haha. The details come the more you train. It's amazing actually when you start to realize the complexity of your ability. There are so many moving parts. Like an old time clock. lol

Thank you Paul! Congrats to you on your progression.

Can’t wait for the next video! I’m about the same weight and training time so it’s interesting to hear your thoughts/points during the round.
I'm editing it right now!
Were you setting up a butterfly sweep at 5:23 ?
No sir. I was looking to come up on his back. I see what you mean. I would use the other hook with that grip if I was looking to sweep
remi the semi
haha. His name is actually Semi. I was just being creative
It’s good you took your time with the white belt. He could have easily swept you, but that comes in time. He’ll learn. Good roll.
Good advice to tap early
I only gave the advice because I used to tough it out and that was how I contracted my worst shoulder injuries.
