    A pile of good tips, here. And an overall great approach to trip planning regardless of the navigation tools you're using.

    This is fantastic. I have been trying to plan a backcountry route in Jasper National Park for this summer, and I never though to check to see if FATMAP would be the solution. I am stoked to give this a try.

      Sweet - it should be a good option!

    These are great tips and reasons why I use FATMAP first when going about the backcountry. I'd like to add that the Activity section is a great way to look back at previously recorded tours, runs, hikes etc and build on experience. I'll throw photos and beta in there and have an Activity record for the season/year.

      Absolutely! A great way to find ideas in places where there are other users!

      It’s a mix of Sea to Sky Gondola, Whistler Blackcomb, and areas on the Duffey Lake Road! Check out the activities section of the app for ideas!

    Thanks for the awesome video ! Question: You said you can upload the route to your watch, does it have to be a certain type of watch? I'm assuming this wouldn't work with an iPhone

      You can sync your FATMAP account (& routes) with Suunto and Garmin watches. Or if you don't have a watch with navigation capabilities, you can always follow your route and track directly in the FATMAP app too. Make sure to download the area off line though before you go!

      I use a Coros and it’s quite easy to export a GPX file from Fatmap and load it into the watch. Other watches should be similar but exactly how it works depends on the watch. Google import GPX and whatever brand/model you use and you’ll have your answer.

    Great dissemination of relevant navigation techniques. Thank you Eric. One question, how did you film your phone and not show your hand controlling it?

      Screen capture on an iPhone - not actually filming it!

    Can you download a offline map of the area you know your going and still use the track me feature as I travel in an area. Note I will not have a route prior to my walk because I’ll be traveling areas I’ve never been. Just wondering if it will drop a breadcrumb trail as I walk

    Does this work without cell service?

    • @skiericcarter
      @skiericcarter  2 года назад +2

      It needs cell or wifi to load the map but once they are downloaded, you can use it fully offline.
