Have an issue with Backup and Sync. Can u help ? I am using backup and sync for last 6 months, and it was working perfect. yesterday I formatted my PC. and tried to sync same folder from my computer, but Google is Making Duplicate Folder on Google Drive (Not over writing the same folder) Please Help. ThanX
If I turn sync my drive on and backup and sync will download all files that's currently stored on my Google drive in my drive section to my Google drive folder in my computer. My question, how about for example I have a word document that I wanna edit in my Google drive folder, what will happen after I save that files ? Do backup and sync process the changes that I've made to the document to my Google Drive so the document that is currently stored on my Google drive will be updated to the latest changes that I've made or it doesn't ?
Good question, Skye- based on Google's recent updates, if you edit Word files, all changes should sync. If you find that's not the case, try converting your Word file to a Google Doc file (this will create a copy of your Word file, so your original file is maintained and the copy is where the changes are synced). Keep me posted...
I got a problem. would you help me please? I have combined 2 folders by my phone app on G.Drive from a same account, but it didn't change actually when i went drive through computer. How can i solve it?
Hey, thank you for the great tutorial. My question is when we now have folders synced up as such to our google drive are they still on our hard drives on our laptop or are they only in the Gdrive? Are the files I am creating physically on my hard drive and it is copying it to my Gdrive correct? I ask this because I struggled not knowing I had 'OneDrive' in the past 'Synced up' and none of the files I was creating were on my hard drive somehow they were only on the cloud.
Thanks so much for this video! I've been looking into this for a while now and this video explained it so clearly. Appreciate you helping us out mate :)
Great video, thanks heaps. Quick question.. the final Sync you established and did for Music folder, what does it mean.. the Music files are stored both on the Laptop and Google Drive? If so, how can I change it to only upload onto Google Drive and not eat up space on my laptop? Thanks a million. Bhoga
Hey Chandra, thanks for your patience- unfortunately this is only possible if you turn off syncing; you cannot enable syncing and delete files in one location without deleting them in the other. I would suggest: 1. Install the sync utility. 2. Run the sync. 3. After the sync is complete, turn off syncing and uninstall the sync utility. 4. Verify the files are indeed in your Google Drive. 5. Delete the files from your computer. This article gives a good explanation of the process: infoinspired.com/how-to-guides/how-to-delete-files-on-google-drive-on-my-pc-without-affecting-the-web-stored-files/ I hope this helps- keep me posted.
Hey Urratul- the file on Drive (if it was uploaded prior to the ransomware attack) should be non-corrupted. I'd recommend you download the file from Drive and scan it with antivirus software (Malwarebytes, for example)- if the scan comes back clean, then you can open the file. Keep me posted!
Thank you much for the quick overview of Google Drive's features! You filled in some important details that I was missing in my understanding of the process.
Hi Tanveer- good question, this could be an issue with your computer if it tries to open but doesn't install. Did you try downloading the install file again and attempt to install again?
Thanks for the video. Question: I have Google Drive installed on my Mac desktop, with the Drive folder in the Finder. Clicking on that folder shows a very different view of Google Drive contents vs. what's in the cloud-based site. Is there a way to sync the view? Thanks...
Hey Bill- thanks for your patience. When you say "sync the view", are you looking for the items to be sorted similarly to how they are in the cloud-based site? Or are you looking for an icon view vs list view?
@@StephenKwiecinski Thanks for getting back to me. I have my Google Drive (in the cloud / web-based app) arranged in folders, with folders names "A" to "Z" and everything else in subfolders. So when you look at Drive on the website / cloud, it's just 26 letter-named folders. With Google Backup and Sync installed and running on my Mac desktop and Win 10 laptop, both have Google Drive folders in Finder / File Explorer. The contents of those folders look nothing like the folder setup I have in the cloud. In fact, they just look like random files and folders.. no particular structure. I would have hoped the cloud-based folder structure would have been mirrored on my two machines. Any suggestions / ideas much appreciated!
What I find VERY confusing is the difference between My Drive and Computers. You synced to My Drive and yet the files show up in Computers! But these two distinct things have different sync settings in the Drive desktop app. I spoke to Google support today as I have stuff in My Drive and in Computers and it's a mess... and the person said My Drive is purely for what I add to it, ie stuff created on google Docs or files uploaded/synced. This does not, apparently sync both ways. If you want to do that, you must use Computers - so files you upload to G Drive into the Computers folders will sync with the mirrored folders on your desktop - so if I want to simply have all my Documents folder contents sync BOTH WAYS, then the best option is to use the Computers mirrored function, and not My Drive. Does that sound right to you? I'd love to get clarity on the distinction between My Drive and Computers, it's a bit of a mess IMO.
What if I change my computer or lets say windows reinstalled, how do I make my files sync to my previous drive/folder ? when I turn on drive it starts syncing to a whole new folder, but I want to sync to the same one is it possible ?
This is soooo useful! Thank you. But i do have a question that is best explained with an example: If I have a document on desktop and later I make a new folder in which I move it to. Will the document or file appear in the new folder and not the general desktop folder in google drive? Or will I have to go to google drive and move this file? (BTW i saw 5 other videos and this was by farrr the best explained step to step video. Thank you for that. )
Hi Lysvette- based on your example, the file should not appear twice after you move it from the desktop folder, it should appear in the new folder. If you try and it still appears in both locations, make sure you have your sync settings set up so that the desktop folder is syncing with your Google Drive and the new folder is syncing with your Google Drive. I hope this helps- let me know if you still have questions, happy to help!
I tried to select a subfolder in documents and it says it cant because it's already been added. All three boxes (desktop, documents...) are unchecked, so I don't know why it's giving me that error. I don't want to sync all 90 GB on this computer just some key folders. What am I missing?
Hello, thanks for you video, but you barely touch on the subject. I have 3 PCs and it is getting more difficult to understand and manage my files. I have been using it for many years, and it was getting fatter and fatter, that finally, I had to stop and see how I could reduce the amount of data going into the google drive (GD). You did fine explaining the fundamentals (watch what you upload, or you will be surprised). But beyond that, how do you actually MANAGE 3 PCs sharing files on the same GD. The worse is that I don't know where I can get information on this... if you do, pls let me know. TIA
Great information and well put together! However, this method seems to only allow me to select one folder at a time. Is this the only method and which is better in that sense in relation to using Google Drive to drag all files/folders I want?
Thanks for this Stephen, I like your style, very concise. I started working in the cloud/ backing up only recently and all of sudden my PC is syncing to Dropbox, I have work files on a personal One Drive account and other files on work account and then started using Google Drive which I want to make my primary/ only cloud workspace. I am feeling a little flustered to be honest. Could you suggest a POA? Dropbox made a weird shortcut to my pc which contains pc files and in that is another shortcut to my PC, its like a Russian doll. It seems like Onedrive did not copy my PC files but moved it from PC to Onedrive. I just want to make sure I don't loose anything in this process. Also, strange things have been happening with some spreadsheet updates as well, I will work a few hours, making sure I save the file when I close it and next time I open it - all changes gone.

Any time he makes an update on his desktop, my desktop would get modified? Hey Ryan - I would just increase the frequency of the file sync on your computer and your buddy's computer using the Drive Desktop module. It wont be instantaneous, but is probably your best bet without installing any third-party software. If I find a solid third party solution, I will let you know.
