I have the same Macbook Pro 13 2018, 16GB, 512ssd ... just installed Sonoma and immediately after restart my battery was on "Service requirement" alert. Back to Catalina, battery is now on Normal. The same is with Big Sur. This computer on Catalina works the best!
i have a question as i am in the market for a second hand machine, i am kind of looking for a big screen on a budget, my workload is not that high, how does the video editing perform in this machine especially with a dedicated gpu? do the fans randomly kick in if i am just watching to a movie, everyone saying go for an m1, are absolutely right but it is a bit expensive for my budget, and what it doesnt have a 15 inches of screen, so if i go for this machine what am i loosing i do ocassional video edits less than a minutes, and i browse in safari max 5 to 6 tabs open at once, not a huge multi tasking person, how well would it serve me as per my workflow.
@@anupammahato1 Yeah! The 15" 2018 is still a relatively powerful machine and it would be more than enough. Just do your due dilligence and make sure the keyboard is good though, SO many of these have issues!

Hello! I’ll recommend you going for the 2018 darling! I know, the screen will be smaller, but the 2016 models has the butterfly keyboard without the protection that the 2018 models started incluiding because the used to brake, then, on the 2016 you will have a 6th core CPU and on the 2018 8th generation with better graphics, unless you buy the 15 inch with Radeon graphics, If I were you, I’ll buy the 2018!

@@kevinbirego2130 Keyboard issues with repeating keys, very poor battery life (like 30 minutes to an hour) and poor keyboard feel. The computer was pretty fast, but I had an i7/16GB model!
found a 2018 model with 16gb ram 1tb storage, $420. what do you think? I have to pick it up today. he said no keyboard issues but who knows if hes being honest

I adore the touch bar, and think it was hated on way too much. I wouldn't buy the 2018 though, if you at all can, get the M1 MacBook Pro. It's going to last 3 to 4 times longer on the battery and the performance will be about twice as fast as well.
air m1, based on my usage as software eng with sometimes editing video/photo, you dont really need touchbar so 100000000% m1 air, if u have budget get the 16/256, the internal you can expand, but none with the ram

the ipad is realy good for basic stuffs and for taking a note witch more convineitn and very tangible to create full whole documents and papers presentation to use and to explore more on apple tablet since then i really dont use fully the laptop because im not that creative to run all things simlessly im just fine and im considering the apple tablet because its ,ore easy to use and portable you can bring it everywhere you go or when you are travelling and its also good notebook like you can edit photos and videos and drawing offline its amazing tablet all thought im not a power user so thats it everything i need is on my ipad and it serves me really well
@@zircoben Yeah, I have gone from noticeably hot to the touch palm rest areas to absolutely zero heat with slight fan control on all the time. The fans at stock seem to not turn on at all until the CPU reaches around 60c (I assume this is for sound and battery consumption, but I'd prefer less heat on all around me. I have them set to 1100-1200 RPM to start and it keeps it nice and cool.

I'm sure that the 2018 MacBook Pro has a far nicer display, speakers, build quality, and would be a lot nicer to use. But I am just worried about the keyboard and the longevity with updates. I think the HP is the better buy, even if it isn't as "nice" of a computer.

I got a 15 inch 2018 MBP. Core i7 with 6 cores and 16 gb of ram. It’s a very good device indeed.

That is a great idea! I think you get A LOT for your money if you get an iPad and you're able to get a keyboard and use it productively.

a new battery install for 70 bucks and the use of mac fan control literally solves most of the problems you mention (minus the keyboard obviously).
Good point! Messing with fan speeds does lead to throttling with the CPU overheating, but I do agree that a new battery would make a big difference.
