Hope y'all enjoy this one! The edit was a beast-almost as difficult as the 14 Vise-Grips workout on Wahoo SYSTM 😅 What is your favorite workout session on the bike?
This may sound crazy but after 4 hard weeks of training take 4 or 5 days off really. Then come back and test it allows you to fully recover. Ask Cam lol.
The Gorby on Zwift. My go-to if I want to quickly rebuild fitness after some time off. Great video, can very much relate to your experience, frustrations, but ultimately improvement through consistent, structured training.
What a thorough video and very kind words for the RCA. At the end of the day, the coach's job is easy. It's the member/athlete that does the hard work to get the results! This video clearly tells a tale of someone that was committed with the right motivation to improve. The scenes of you in the kitchen / dining area while away on holidays says it all. LOL! Well done on achieving the results you did, and as mentioned, you're only just getting started! Cheers, Cam
You definitely saw the initial gain in fitness all newbies get. Then the hard work starts where it take years to make small but important gains. Rome wasn't built in a day! Keep at it. Any gain is an improvement
I follow a lot (as in too many) cycling youtubers, and just came across your Peloton FTP video, then this one. Very fun, you deserve more subscribers. And as someone with an initial FTP and weight similar to your own and who has ridden 10,000 km in the last 2 years and barely improved, this is really putting me to shame - great stuff!
Haha I bought that exact saddle too! And new carbon wheels for my gravel whip. Oh and the Wahoo Headwind fan, which has been THE training game changer. Trust me, an hr adjustable fan that blows directionally on you is so worth it. Unfortunately my 60 year old body has run into trouble and I am facing an uncertain future. We’ve had to dial back my training just when I was making meaningful gains, but I look at it like I was training for one race and now I am just applying that training to another more important event. Appreciate all your kudos in Strava and Zwift high fives and I’ll keep mine coming for your training!
I’ll have to checkout the headwind, thanks, Kit! Glad to hear you’re taking care of yourself-it’s fun to follow along on Strava. I’ll keep rooting you on from the sidelines 👏👏
Hi Mitch. Fellow RCA traveller here - week 9 of first training block of any sort and very familiar with many of the joys and pains you capture. Congratulations on your journey and the cracking entertainment you made of it. Fully support your recommendation of Cam and his team who’ve gone further with their support than I ever anticipated. Great stuff all round!
Hey Mitch, great video! I am a RCA member too and it seems there are lots of similarities between our training experiences. Congratulations on your improvements; they are really massive. Cheers, Chrissi
Been enjoying a lot of your videos, happened to be watching this one while sitting here with my wife... You and I are very, very, very similar when it comes to cycling, our attitudes towards it, and how we view it... My wife laughed a lot as she was side eyeing me
v02 workouts are awesome, provided they're outside. I've done Dark Place inside three or four times, and it's murder. Outside it's not much better, but the momentum helps.
This is brilliant. I am clearly recognizing myself here, looking a lot for the numbers, and equipment, and maybe even forgetting the ultimate goal of cycling. Cheers, man. Your initial results were just so amazing that skewed the reality a bit. You would be unpleasantly surprised how much damage a two-week break would do to your fitness. This is a long game, at least for myself and at some point, it becomes more menta than physical.
You’re totally right, I recently took a break for a few weeks and I am unpleasantly surprised by how much fitness I lost 😅 Good advice on treating it like a long game. Thanks for watching!
RCA member myself and seeing this video was extremely motivating. Thanks for sharing and ripping up an incredible video. I live on the East Coast but travel to UT often for work and occasionally bring the bike. Cam and RCA totally rock.
I've been working on a new training video! Even went to Australia and talked with my coach in person. Should be out in about a month or so! To answer your question--I prefer doing internals outside. I have a few different climbs that I use depending on the workout.
Hey Mitch great video. Why exactly did you need to upgrade your trainer? I’ve seen articles about zwift races requiring 2% accuracy, but thought that was only for pro-level events.
Thanks for watching, Michael! The trainer-feel was the big factor for me. I tried the Wahoo Kickr and resistance changes were much smoother than the Tacx Flux. I'm sure the higher-end Tacx is much better, but I decided to go with the Wahoo because I'm already in their ecosystem. All that said, the Flux worked, and I gave it to my dad and he loves it. Hope that helps!
To summarize, if you work your ass off with extreme discipline, you get faster. No surprise here. Me personally after 4 decades of competitive cycling? Don't kill yourself on the bike because its never worth it. Ride in zone 2 or 3 and even go anaerobic once in a while. But don't get caught in the mud with other zealots trying to prove something to yourself. You just end up exhausted all the time. You can have great BMI and muscle fitness without killing yourself on the bike. Learn to swim. I was a competitive swimmer growing up and if you want a good body, learn to swim which like anything else is a skill. It you want to go real fast on a bicycle and keep up with elite cyclists, install a motor on your bike. I ride my ebike now 5:1 versus my carbon road bike.
I am sure your coach is great but most coaching is built for racing. The only way to really improve is to race, not just on Strava but against actual cyclist. Part of cycling is obviously skill improvement and that comes from learning how to race with a group so you don't get dropped. Training is just that training. I think it would be alot more real if you actually raced!

He gave me the same advice at the end of this block--took a full week off. Now I'm itching to get back at it!

You’re such a great story teller.. really enjoy your creations.
Thank you! 🙏
Hey Mitch, thank you so much for sharing your journey. You and I have a similar FTP and is nice to have a buddy who has common skill level.
THIS VIDEO WAS SO SO SO GOOD!! Thanks for the shot outs, xx
Youre the best wife and chicken sando hero I could ever ask for ❤️

Haha thanks, Patrick! 10,000 km in 2 years is no joke, though, that's awesome 💪

This really tells the tale of hard training. I enjoyed the video. And congratulations on Cat B! That’s gotta feel good
It does 💪 haha. Thanks, Corey!
Enjoyed it so much!!!! Looking forward pt2 until 300, let's GO!

Thanks for watching, Giles! Glad to hear I'm not alone in my pain, haha :)
Great GREAT video. Am two weeks into my RCA up-leveling experience. Great stuff. Great coaching.
Thanks, Mark!

Great video and very motivating. Just started RCA last week and excited to see the progress. Great insight!
Awesome, let me know how it goes!
What a brilliant video. Made your training journey interesting and humorous. Excellent improvements with your fitness and power 👏
Thanks, Simon!
love this content great channel

Awesome! Maybe I’ll see you on the road in UT sometime 🤘
Hello Mitch, just discovered your channel with this video, now you have a new subscriber from Italy, really love your contents!
Thanks for watching and subscribing!
Great effort with your progress 👍. Please make more video with your progress. Would love to see your progress 4w/kg and beyond.
Thanks, me too, haha! Gonna make it happen 🎉
Amazing !!
Same thing happened to me doing base training. Although it was all done during lockdowns
Well done Mitch, great video. You may be new to cycling but definitely not new to making You Tube videos, watch out Cam.
Thanks for watching!
Nice video. I feel your pain. Well done ✅
Thanks for watching!
this shows how putting time into properly training gets results .
Totally. There are no shortcuts
@@MitchBoyer exactly you have to put the hours in with cycling tbh
do another training video. how do you feel about doing intervals out on the road? (not indoor)

Yes we care even though your wife doesn't lol. Great video good edit. Like the humor.
Nice work. Your clearly obsessed now awesome. Keep it up.
Haha, thanks 🙏
Very cool Mitch! You are not a beginner now though :)
Haha thanks dude 🙏
The dog is the real MVP
Haha very true 🐶

A Very Dark Place is easier than 14 Vice Grips in my opinion. The shovel is madness and Violator might be the worst thing GvA ever imagined.
Oh no, your comment made me simultaneously feel better and more afraid 😅
DAMN IT I WONDERED WHY GARMIN WAS ALWAYS WEIRD ON Zwift💀
You're funny.
Those griffith park roads are god awful
Yeah that's why I run 28 mm tubeless tires. It's basically gravel at some points. No cars, though, so that's a huge plus!
