Norm once said " Never come off as being smarter than your audience". He won $500,000 on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?. He stopped at half a million because he was playing for a charity but could have won the million because he knew the answer to the final question. Great guy. RIP
I’m so happy we live in a world that had Norm in it. He never caved to Hollywood when it came to his relationship with Jesus. He was genuine to the end.
She actually made a guest appearance on The Norm Macdonald Show when it originally aired. It wasn't too long after this aired Norm got his show, and she graciously accepted the role.
Courtney Thorne Smith talked about this interview about 2 years ago and said she was never offended by Norm. She loved him taking over the interview because she felt most actors like herself worry these types of interviews would be boring and lose the audience. She said to have Norm keep the interview moving made her relax because the pressure was off. She also said the reason she made a comedy with Carrot Top was because Jim Carrey became a movie star a few years before this (the interview was from 1997).. She said Courtney Cox did ‘Ace Ventura’ with Jim Carrey (before he was mega star Jim Carrey) and the movie was a huge hit. She was hoping a Carrot Top movie would be the next ‘Ace Ventura’ and catapult her to fame.
I saw that interview too. I could imagine a lot of actresses would be upset about this kind of thing. But that woman has such a great spirit and positive attitude about life.
I mean, that's a good gamble to take. You put a curly red wig on Jim Carrey, give him some props, and have him make some faces and you basically have Carrot Top. It's understandable to think that Chairman of the Bored could be the next Ace Ventura.
Everything about this clip is great. Norm is brilliant and CTS is such a good sport. Notice Conan taking quick peeks at Courtney every time Norm gets off a good one to make sure she’s ok. Also I’ve never watched one of your videos before but I liked it. Your comments were on point and you showed us your genuine reaction rather than being over the top. Thanks also for not stopping the video often.
This is great. CTS didn't want to do the publicity tour for the movie as she hated it. She was perfectly happy to let Norm take over. They became good friends after this and even appeared on each others shows years later. RIP Norm.
I watched this episode when it aired and for 20 years I tried in vain to explain to people how hilarious this bit was and then finally RUclips came along and brought it to the whole world to enjoy for themselves.
i think Norm is my favorite also. he has a way of captivating me as he tells his stories that may or may not have a good punch line. it doesn't matter, the journey is the best part
I love Norm ❤ Truly hilarious and was actually a very smart guy. I never even saw anything about this movie before or after it came out. 😂 Courtney was great.
Norm was near or probably at the top of the list of comics who had the ability to say whatever he thought was funny, no matter how frightening it may have been to his audience. He also stayed away from trying to come off as being the smartest person in the room. Room should reaction to his appearance at The National Press Club’s dinner for, then sitting President Bill Clinton. It really shows his comedic fearlessness and his razor sharp wittiness.
Chairman of the Board is a 1998 American comedy film directed by Alex Zamm, and starring Carrot Top in his only lead role in a feature-length film. In the film, a surfer and inventor named Edison inherits and runs a billionaire's company. It was poorly received by both critics and audiences and was a box office bomb.
He could free-style a long story without a punchline and it would be just as good. He could ramble on for ten minutes about the most mundane thing with everybody laughing their asses off, and then end it with "and then we all went home."
Thank you for doing a Norm MacDonald reaction. He’s got a ton of good ones all over RUclips. Anything with Conan or David Letterman is perfect. He has a lot of good standup as well.
According to Wikipedia "It was poorly received by both critics and audiences and was a box office bomb. Both Carrot Top and Raquel Welch received Golden Raspberry Award nominations for their roles in the film."
Norm was the comedian you called when you wanted to make other comedians laugh. He sometimes went over audience's head when he was doing some more intense trolling (e.g. the roast of bob saget), but he was very good, and most professional standups seemed to agree that he might have been the best standup of his lifetime. He WAS the best talk show guest. I think the hosts have all agreed on that haha.
When Norm would be on Conan and especially David Letterman, those were interviews you would see the hosts GENUINELY laugh. David Letterman was Norm's favorite comedian and Norm was Letterman's favorite comedian. Norm was the last guest ever on his show
I'm glad your sound is working for this one. Norm has made television history so many times but this one is probably the funniest moments on Conan ever. Sucks it was censored. Chairman of the Board sucked and yes, it should have been called Chairman of the Bored.
90s film it was a fun movie, and also box office poison. I was 12 when it came out but i remember liking it... i dont' remember it all though, and i may be confusing it with mr deeds.
I saw it back in 1998, it was silly, but hey, it was Carrot Top. Every movie should be seen once, that way you experience all the levels of entertainment from good to bad, it's all a learning experience in life. Seeing a bad movie lets you appreciate a good movie even more. Also, you shouldn't rely on the opinions of others before making any decisions, your likes and dislikes are not going to be the same as anybody else's, just take a chance and make the leap of faith whenever you're in doubt about anything. Life's too short for regrets, besides, in this case, I think you might like it, but watch it and judge it for yourself. Anyway, loved the review, love you, take care and stay safe ❤️
Norm, like Letterman, loved to pretend he was the "dumbest" person in the room while never letting anyone know that he actually skipped two grades as a child. The most important thing to him was always the joke/what is funny, and F'ing with people coming in a whisker close second.
I remember David Letterman loved how he played dumb. Norm would always say I've only ever read 4 books in my life. Letterman said the truth was he was never reading less than 4 books at a time.
One of the greatest things I have seen Norm do...was the White House Press Correspondence Dinner. He basically did what Ricky Gervias did at the Golden Globes....but with Bill/Hilary Clinton and others.
So, when you watch "The Room", watch in a theater, and bring a plastic spoon and football. Maybe a flask of whiskey. It's like "The Rocky Horror Picture Show"; best watched in cosplay.
This is coming from a 100% fan of Norm and Conan: These dudes were totally speaking over Courtney when she first sat down, as though she didn't exist. I mean, they were just in the moment, but I don't blame her for jokingly saying "I'm gonna bail."
Courtney Smith’s great laugh made this bit even funnier but Norm is the greatest check out his scrabble story on interview with Letterman equally as long and entertaining
“I forgot about Carrot Top. Carrot Top is definitely an unforgettable character” 😂

Lmao the contradiction 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@MaddyReactions That's right up there with the famous sayings of the late, great, Yogi Bera :)
That’s definitely a Normesque line.
@@MaddyReactionsI saw Carrot Top walking out of a gym talking and laughing to himself.
Despite acting like a drunk or a stoner , he was usually the smartest guy in the room!
dude was a legit genius - graduated high school when he was 14 and matriculated to University when he was 16 lol
Norm always played the "Dumb guy" but was probably the smartest guy in the room. Conan is also really smart.
Norm once said " Never come off as being smarter than your audience". He won $500,000 on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?. He stopped at half a million because he was playing for a charity but could have won the million because he knew the answer to the final question. Great guy. RIP

It's like we lost a book that nobody has a copy of
It's great to see a younger group of viewers discover Norm. He was an absolute genius. RIP Norm.
Courtney was such a great sport. Still one of the funniest guest nights on Conan.
She actually made a guest appearance on The Norm Macdonald Show when it originally aired. It wasn't too long after this aired Norm got his show, and she graciously accepted the role.
I love how Conan always had him with boring guests LOL
She later stated that she had no interest in promoting the movie and that Norm MacDonald made it fun for her.

Sadly for her, the Carrot Top movie didn't exactly do as well as the Jim Carrey movies, to put it mildly.

this is the greatest talk show interview of all time
Greatest night show moment in television history!
Its so empty without a Norm Macdonald in it
Norm believed the comedy audience doesn't want their comics to be too smart. He graduated HS at 14.
i think Norm is my favorite also. he has a way of captivating me as he tells his stories that may or may not have a good punch line. it doesn't matter, the journey is the best part
The brilliance of Norm is in HOW he tells the story, not the punchline. You laugh the whole way through.
Norm was hilarious! 😂
I'll always first remember Thorne-Smith from Summer School and Revenge of the Nerds 2, both 1987.
My favorite Norm moment of them all.
Norm was so disruptive and somewhat even counter-cultural, like literally introducing chaos into your nice planned little interview
Sort of like a low key intellectual Robin Williams.

CTS played a California Surfer girl in 'Summer School". She looked exactly like hundreds of girls I have seen in CA and it was perfect casting.
