For the people that don’t own horses- or for the people that don’t know about shoeing horses. This does not hurt the horse, some people say that it hurts, but it don’t. If it hurt the horse they WILL let you know. They would kick you. So please don’t start saying in the comments that this hurts them, and tell the farriers there doing it wrong. They know what there doing, if they didn’t know the horse will tell them.
Dude thanks i dont know much about shoeing horses i just watch these videos for the satisfaction side of it but really wanted to know if that hurt them or not. I always thought the same thing that if it did hurt them the horses would act differently but its good to know. Thanks
For those who don't know, restoring the hooves of the pet horses is really important otherwise there will be increased chances of injuries while racing or running. Wild horses don't need this restoration as they run a lot and it wears down their hooves. But for the pet/racing horses, this needs to be done manually as they are required to stand when they aren't racing. Hooves are like human nails but thicker and so, shoeing doesn't hurt them.

Nothing like finishing off a pedicure with nail polish... It's always a pleasure to watch someone who is obviously an expert at his job make it look so easy, when it really isn't anything like easy.
My kind of job. Pure silence and tranquillity. Not having to speak or interact with humans and you get to work with and help animals. Absolute heaven for me.
I can't decide what I like most about this; is it the way the horse seems so comfortable with the farrier, the kind gentle hands of the farrier when the horse tries to move, the strong, capable hands of the farrier or the sheer artistry of the farrier. I'm not a current horse owner but if I were I would try hard to find someone as good as this gentleman and pay him well. His precision and attention to detail is appreciated. I bet the horses feel GREAT after they have a visit from this farrier. Well done!
When I was a little tyke, I'd sit and watch the farrier work on our horses. I was mesmerized. Here I am, 50 years later, still watching. Still mesmerized. Beautiful work.
I live in the farm here in Chile and there are not many people who knows this work (honestly it is an art...). This guy is really good, very confidence moves so the horse is relax and enjoying this. Much respect and really good channel. BTW; dogs loves to chew those hoofs pieces..
Love how this guy doesn't have to put the horses in a huge body-constricting machine to do this. They just trust his handling. Also love how there's no hero-complex horse doctor that talks about things like his journey and personal goals and how good he is at his job, punctuated by saccharine inspirational music to highlight how amazing he thinks he is.

So very fascinating . Well I am over 70 yo and back in Jr High ,,in the 60s . The school brought in a giant computer with cards that you filled out and they processed them to determine what profession you would be good at ,, Mine said Blacksmith . Probably should have done that .Your horses are so cooperative .They must really trust you . Thanks for sharing your great profession. Have you ever worked on a Clydesdale ?

Sanding the nails to prepare for acrylics don’t hurt right? That’s what this is too. Scratch your nails right now. It doesn’t hurt. Clipping your nails don’t hurt either, so why would a horse hoof, which is just one giant tough nail, hurt?

A couple of questions if you ever get around to it: Why the blowtorch? Is it to burn off the manure? How do you know how deep to shave? How do you know the best angle to cut at for the horse's leg? Do the previous holes from earlier shoes ever cause problems like decay or infections? How do you shape the shoe so right every time? Can someone apprentice to become a farrier or is it all through universities now?

I could watch this hours and hours... This job is full of tradition and those who do it have a very good feeling for the mood of the horses. Besides of that the have to prepare the irons just right. If they don't it can cause much pain for the horses.

@@ruerue244 found it ...my damned video wasnt loading from the start it was doing that stick freeze bounce ahead thing. And the purpose of torching the frog is where they are at its really dry which causes the frog to harden with callousing...heating the frog softens it so it can be pared down.
I have so many questions as I’ve never seen this before. Firstly why is a blowtorch being used? Secondly, why is the shoe burned onto the hoof? Thirdly, the nails that are hammered through to keep the shoe on... is there a risk that this could split the hoof? Or make a double hole in close proximity to the old nail hole? This is interesting to watch from someone who pairs cattles feet (occasionally im not a professional). The difference in tools is apparent almost immediatley and there actually are a lot more differences than youd think outside of the obvious e.g. a horse shoe. Definatley an interesting watch.
I don't know why but before going to sleep I love watching this type of job...it is so relaxing and I would like to see it personally and try to do it. 🤷♀️🤭
Mad respect for your craft! I know how much care and trust goes into what you do just based off of how you work and how comfortable the horse is. However, I’m just curious as to what the blowtorch was for. I’ve seen some people heat use the horse shoes and put them to the hoof so they can see where they need to shape it to better fit the horse. I just wanna know why you used a blowtorch on the hoof.
this is just an educated guess, but I was wondering the same thing and after watching again, my opinion is maybe it softens the nail area there, making it easier to scrape out?

This makes me miss going into our horses stalls after turning them in for the night and picking out their feet. That weird sour smell that popped up after picking the muck out of the "V" area! I miss being a teen on my parents farm and spending hours with horses. Great video!
@@Kallastar. The purpose of a hot horeshoe is to create a smooth interface surface between the hoof and the shoe and to seal the cut horn tubules, making them less likely to dry out in a dry climate or take on moisture and soften in a wet environment. :)

From what I understand, this is all done on part of the horse's hoof without nerves, so it's harmless.

This is interesting to watch from someone who pairs cattles feet (occasionally im not a professional). The difference in tools is apparent almost immediatley and there actually are a lot more differences than youd think outside of the obvious e.g. a horse shoe. Definatley an interesting watch.

Mad respect for your craft! I know how much care and trust goes into what you do just based off of how you work and how comfortable the horse is. However, I’m just curious as to what the blowtorch was for. I’ve seen some people heat use the horse shoes and put them to the hoof so they can see where they need to shape it to better fit the horse. I just wanna know why you used a blowtorch on the hoof.
this is just an educated guess, but I was wondering the same thing and after watching again, my opinion is maybe it softens the nail area there, making it easier to scrape out?

This is totally relaxing I could watch serious clean horse feed for years or days or weeks you just got to take care of the animal
This makes me miss going into our horses stalls after turning them in for the night and picking out their feet. That weird sour smell that popped up after picking the muck out of the "V" area! I miss being a teen on my parents farm and spending hours with horses. Great video!

@@Kallastar. The purpose of a hot horeshoe is to create a smooth interface surface between the hoof and the shoe and to seal the cut horn tubules, making them less likely to dry out in a dry climate or take on moisture and soften in a wet environment. :)
