Someone tried, but failed to break down my front door, and then they went and smashed a window. I ran into the bathroom with a knife. When the police banged on the door, I was still on the line with the dispatcher, and confirmed that it was really the police at the door. When they finished searching my apartment, they took me outside to see if I could identify the suspect. It was my downstairs neighbor. She was bloody, in handcuffs, and too big to fit in through that window she had smashed. The next morning, I went down to the property managers office to tell them what happened. All I was able to say was, “Someone tried to break into my apartment last night, the kitchen window is broken.” The agent interrupted me and said, “Was it the lady who lives downstairs from you? She’s done this before.”
@ Because it was trashy apartments on Melody Lane in Dallas. They did say that she was in the process of being evicted, but the apartments were still trashy. Drug addicts knocking on my door at all hours asking to borrow money because I was one of the few people there who had a regular job and didn’t do drugs. Urine all over the laundry room. I probably have brain damage from inhaling turpentine because I worked at night and slept during the day and the apartments never had the decency to tell me that they would be stripping the paint in the apartment next to mine, and the fumes filled my apartment, I woke up so dizzy I couldn’t even get to fresh air. They never fixed my window, just put some plywood over it, but there were still gaps, which let the rats in. They ate my bread and my bananas and turned the air ducts into a racetrack and jumped on my bed while I was trying to sleep. When I moved out of there, I went across the street, which had all the same problems except for rats, but those new apartments had constant sewage backups where I would have to leap over the puddles of sewage every time I entered or left my building. If it rained, forget it, because the sewage just spread wherever the water went.
