    I was a bit harsh on Cobra when they had plastic 3D printing back on their Irons. I said it doesn't do anything, I think I said come back when you have metal 3D printing in your clubs. And now they do! It is actually incorporated in the design and has a function in the club head. Still a bit gimmicky with the open back so we can see the actual 3D printing. A bit hard to clean I suppose.
    Stiłl, my hat off for Cobra for actually breaking new ground, making a real metal 3D printed club!
    3D printing enables a new level of design possibilities. Exiting to see where Cobra takes this, if they can make it affordable. 👍

    First I've ever heard of "3D" clubs. Will admit, interesting concept though. Just a tad out of my normal price range. Would pass. Here I just went and got fit for some JPX 923s and the 3 weeks of waiting is going to nag at me for what I'm sure will feel like years! Loving the new studio setup!!!

    Pricewise, maybe the 3D printing of golf clubs will go the way of many electronic devices. (Remember when basic pocket calculators once cost $150, or simple computers once cost over $1000?) If that $2300 goes to $230, then this could literally revolutionize the industry. If not, then sorry Cobra, you are screwed.......

      I would suspect that a heavy percent of the cost of the iron is paying for the machines needed to make them. Given they are limited run a company wants recoup costs with this run just in case the demand doesn’t materialize

    Hi Matt, great looking clubs as you would expect when deigned and built by a computer, but the cost of golf clubs is rising all the time and these are v expensive. This trend does mean there is room for for DTC manufacturers like Caley, Hogan etc. but the expense of new golf equipment and memberships is too high

    I definitely think as the process of printing the irons improves, the cost will significantly be reduced. I can’t imagine this is an easy process like the putters. Obviously Bryson had another company 3D print some irons for him so manufacturers are aware of the technology. No one is doing it at a large scale at the moment driving the price super high. Tell yah what though, if there was a way to make golf more attainable, printing would be the way to do it.

    As per the initial run of smart watches, until the technology of 3D printed golf clubs develops and becomes more integrated with functions and features which the average golfer desires and can afford, they will remain a limited production run. I wouldn't write off the approach at this stage as the flexibility for manufacturers to reproduce equipment without recourse to moulds may well enhance the interest in further research and promotion.

    The concept of bespoke irons is interesting, except we are not bespoke, we are inconsistent. Off the shelf clubs with tweaks is plenty of adjustment for average players. Bryson has gone this route, however he has the issue of clubs standing up to his power and speed. Ironically his driver manufacturer Krank say “Roll and Bulge” is ruined with use, with 100 mph swing speed, they say 20 shots destroys the roll and bulge, yet Bryson has roll and bulge in his irons, is he changing them every round? I think Callaway are on a better route with Ai design, the effective analysis of multiple players, is clearly of benefit to amateur golfers, bespoking a professionals clubs by analysing hit data from said pro might help with 3D or Ai production

  • @chefdannydesteli
    @chefdannydesteli Месяц назад

    How i think of it it’s kinda a marketing gimmick at first until it’s consistent. Examples are TM with Twist Face and Carbon Faces. Callaway with AI. I think Cobra is going to be the 3D Printed Brand and that’s just how the market is moving. Every brand will have their niche thing they do in this new age of golf

    IMO 3D printed club heads is a marketing gimmick. Forging and casting are usually stronger due to numerous metallurgical reasons. The cost of 3D printing parts is a more expensive process in the first place. There’s lots of literature on this. And, fatigue strength and impact resistance may be lower for 3D printed metals vs forging or casting. The layered structure is more prone to crack propagation. Save your money folks, unless that is, you want to be the show off at the club.

    • @samuelknott5586

  • @MeFreeBee

    3D printing is an expensive and time consuming process, so the question is: are they expensive because they are a limited edition, or are they a limited edition because they cost Cobra so much to produce?

    • @canyonaro
      @canyonaro Месяц назад

      They're limited edition because it takes all night to print 12 clubs.
      I've spent most of my career in printing & this is exactly how it is with analog vs digital printing. Digital provides amazing flexibility & customization possibilities but it will take quite a while for the machine manufacturers to engineer faster machines. If you want 500 of something, digital is awesome. If you want 20 million, the existing analog processes with hard tooling (think forging & casting) are still far more cost-efficient.
