I have one of these toilets in my apartment, and it wouldn't stop flushing at 1:30 AM. You saved me an enormous amount of hassle. Thank you! The amount of times the internet has taught me simple plumbing and electrical fixes...
THANK YOU SO MUCH! Your video was awesome. You explained things so well and concisely. This has happened to a few different toilets in my apartment complex and now we know what to do!
Thanks mlaulun for the video instructions - just tried it and it worked! I've been dreading calling a plumber as last time someone else in the building had the same problem and it took a plumber 3 trips and oodles of $$ to get the thing fixed - seemed that not all plumbers are familiar with tankless toilets or they just figured they could charge more because it's less common in residential buildings. Thanks again - you are the best!
To explain whats happening: That tiny orifice allows water pressure to build on the other side of the flush valve. So you flush, the pressure released and water flows into the bowl, but it slowly flows through that into the other side so it will close the flush valve when the pressure balances. if water cant flow properly through that tiny little hole it wont ever close or it'll take far longer to close. DO NOT MAKE THIS HOLE LARGER OR YOUR TOILET WILL NOT SIPHON.
Check the stop and make sure it's not partially closed. You can get a full rebuild kit Part# P6000-ecr-ws1-rk for a zurn flush valve for $20 to $40 depending on where you go. Well worth the money and they are easy to replace. If you buy just the diaphragm from Sloan it's $20.
Great information! My basement bar urinal has been acting up for quite a while and this fix resolved the sticky flush. Now if I just had a solution for the sticky floor around the urinal. Like I always say: "We aim to please, won't you aim too please?"
My tankless toilet is similar to this one in video. nowadays, its water level up and down than stay in a low level, then after 2week or so the water level up to the normal line. I don't know what 's the problem. anyone of you can give me some leads to fix it. toilet is good no leak no crack. work perfectly well
Could be a slow drain OR the flushometer is going bad. As far as I know, you cannot adjust the water level of your toilet bowl. I have a funny story to complement this comment, BUT making a guess off little info I'd say the toilet may have been draining slower at some point.
I have a similar toilet, tankless pressure toilet (I don't know what the official name) and it flushes too much and water sprays out. How do I decrease the pressure? I appreciate any help.
Thank You!!!! My toilet all of a sudden just runs water. It flushes fine and no leaks but water is constantly running. I am going to give your instructions a try. I was told to replace the inside piece cost $116.00 and $75 for labor from my super. I fixed my own kitchen drippy sink by just replacing the washer and never had another problem. I'm going to give it a try.
I just finished the job at work today. Didn't have a wire bristle from a wire brush, so used a straightened out staple. It barely fit...but it did the job!! My toilet is fixed! Yay! Saved the boss some money...but doubt he'll ever know! lol! Thank you again!!!! :)
OMG!!! You just saved me!! I'm at work, flush the toilet, and it wouldn't stop flushing! I hated to ask anyone for help because the bathroom didn't smell too good at the moment (if you know what I mean). In a panic, what do you do when you need an answer?!!! Surf the internet! So happy to find that you took the time to provide us with this invaluable information...especially taking the time to post a video! Got the water to stop flowing....will finish tomorrow. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU
A couple of days ago at work, had one of these do exactly what you described, that it kept running and wouldn't shut off. Dratted thing roared like Niagara until I could get someone over who could shut if off as we custodians didn't have access to any tools to do it ourselves. Went to a store the following day to get a stubby screwdriver to keep on hand just for this moment the next time it happens.
Sure wish this cold damned weather would break up and LEAVE THE MID WEST LIKE Central Illinois for instance along the length of Route 136 Which would be nice . Thank You !
The small hole lets the water back in on top of the diaphragm to push the valve back down and seal it. If the hole is clogged the water keeps the valve stuck open.
this guy is clueless. The by-pass whole should not be enlarged as it will close the valve off quicker. You just need to buy a new diaphragm kit. DO NOT enlarge the by-pass
I cannot get the top off. It takes a large wrench. I wish you had shown actually unscrewing it with your wrench. It's hard to tell if the wrench even fits. Mine looks like it's never been touched and plumbers have repaired it before several times. I went to the hardware store to get a larger wrench but still can't get it off. I will go back and try to get one similar to the one you are using.
I followed your instructions, pushed the wire through the little black thing and put the valve back together and the toilet flushes perfectly now. Thanks!!
Cleaning is good, but replacing the flushometer is better if you can. I'd also highly recommend a spud wrench if you're going to be wrenching on chrome brass. One of my coworkers uses pipe and channel lock pliers habitually on that stuff. As you might guess, a lot of our Sloan valves look like shit and very unprofessional.
Yes, this works. I've found with most of these sloan type of fittings, that cleaning everything and putting it back together fixes most issues. Thanks for this informative video. You missed out on the part where you go over to the sink and clean it out and use several paper towels to wipe it all clean. Ha ha! Also you forgot to show how elated you are when it works and you feel like a real bonafide plumber. I can't spell bonafied well.
I had this happen once and my landlord took a cloth covered brick and gave the top metal part a good bang and it stopped. Now after watching this video I bet the impact of the brick knocked whatever was blocking the whole free. LOL
David Taveras Depends on where. It may very well be a seal OR the vacuum breaker. Often times those seals become dry rotten and hard. Once they get disturbed, they don't seal very well. This can have a domino effect where you replace the flushometer, but the torque loosens up an o-ring. Replace a vacuum breaker and you end up having to replace the o-ring above the spud. Hope that helps!
It has been ten years or more sense I have worked on one of those toilets and I have a work order to peplace the flush valve , thank you for the refresher , well done
mine leaks a little when I flush , it leaks right out of the handle only when pressed down to flush, (I know very little about plumbing ), do I replace the whole unit or could I unscrew that handle area and just bring the handle to the plumbing store what do I do

This is so simple but totally awesome that you took the time to teach us all. Thanks!!

I am having this exact problem right now and have called plumbers in the past. I will try this. Thank you!
I know this is an old video but I was wondering if this would help a toilet with a weak flush

Thank you for this video, appreciate it. Saved my ass just being able to find the shut off valve
that was a huge help.. The toilet at the school I work at was flushing relentlessly.. The shut off valve fixed it.. Genius!!
This video really came thru in a came through on the clutch! Learned how to stop water from running and it was a great temporary fix. Thanks!

You're a gentleman for making this video. Thanks much, all fixed (fingers crossed that it is, anyway).

Thank you! Fixed my toilet in 5 mins and saved myself what would've been hrs of waiting for someone else to come.

Thank God I found this! Our toilet wouldn't stop flushing and neither my wife nor I knew how to deal with this type toilet. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much, that was exactly what i needed to do for my toilet to work properly again
Saved my butt from calling the suppa!! THX
The small hole lets the water back in on top of the diaphragm to push the valve back down and seal it. If the hole is clogged the water keeps the valve stuck open.
This rubber thing Looks like a diaphragm so you mean you need to make a little hole on it (with the wire brush) to make the system stop leaking?
Yo saved my apt with the fix. Couldnt find the SHUTOFF thx alot. Started flooding. and found stupid screw D Willy
Saved my ass at work thanks
I was hoping to see this!! flushomatic!!
When do you use 1.6 or 3.5 gpf diaphrams to repair toilets if it is not labeled on the toilet?
thanks having same issue hopefully this will fix it.

I have a leak coming from that area, do you know what the reason might be?
