  • Welcome to the Willamette Valley Conservation Area, a sanctuary for both wildlife and nature lovers alike.
The new unit of the National Wildlife Refuge System supports the Willamette Valley Oak and Prairie Cooperative’s vision and the long-running Oregon Conservation Strategy developed by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife. Within the boundary of the conservation area, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is now able to work with willing landowners within the footprint to preserve areas important for conservation.
With the help of neighbors, community members, and conservation partners, the conservation area will protect habitat for 10 species listed under the Endangered Species Act, two candidate species, and numerous other plant and animal species of concern. It also benefits migratory waterfowl, shorebirds, neotropical songbirds, and iconic Oregon species such as Western monarch butterflies, Western meadowlark, and Oregon white oak.
The conservation area joins three other national wildlife refuges - Ankeny, Baskett Slough, and William L. Finley in protecting native plants and wildlife in the Willamette Valley. Whether you’re an avid birder, a nature photographer, or just looking for a peaceful retreat, the refuges have something for everyone.
Special thanks to The Hagerty Family for 15 years of partnership in helping keep our wetlands and prairies beautiful and thriving.
