Maybe you can do a follow-up video in 3-6 months to let us know if the SW did improve or not?
I was on the fence about preordering this. I wall mount Fire 10s with Action Tiles and Fully Kiosk. Even though Action Tiles hasn't been updated in forever, I still prefer as my smart home dashboard. When Amazon gets all the bugs worked out, I'm sure you'll let us all know. Thanks Reed!

I love our new show 15. I was looking for something more user friendly to set up a dashboard that included weather, the family calendar, and device UI. I tried fully kiosk but don’t have smart things or hubitat at this time. I only wish the widgets can be resized. Would be great to have a device dashboard like the fire. Let’s hope for an update in the near future!!
This checks so many boxes for me! I've been holding off on a smart display in the kitchen due to the size but this could be perfect.
I am with you Reed! Amazon really needs to give the shows a GUI overhaul.
My wife and I are hoping to use this much like how we use the 7 inch tablet, as a dashboard.

Great review! I have just purchased an Echo show 15 and placed it in the Kitchen as you have. My difference is that I mounted it direct to my old VESA mount (100mm) it fits perfect and can be angled or tilted to suit different viewing angles. I have got to say "I love it" and thanks for the review
Good point about the smart home dashboard. I would like that a lot more too. We bought one because our kids are ALWAYS asking about what's on the calendar, and this displays the calendar items ALL THE TIME. I love the wall mount option too. I've always wanted that.

sadly this is what i expected...I was hoping for a more customizable smart home dashboarding option(even more improvement on device dashboard on the fire tablets), but looks like we will have to wait. This is probably better for the "family" but not those who were hoping to have all the beautiful esthetics paired with detailed dashboard. Thanks for your review, always look forward to your content!
Very nice review! Totally agree that I’ll wait to buy till some of the better widgets are available, especially the a smart home dashboard that looks at least as good as the one available on the Fire tablet.
With every Amazon display I own, I will the dashboard feature was more robust and user friendly.
I think this is something Google excels at. Additionally, Amazon’s show devices, especially the bigger screens, seem to be a bit more clunky/buggy, which is unfortunate for high end users who could really take advantage of those products.

I totally agree with changing the smart home dash board to match the tablet and the phone set up, it would be annoying having to scroll all the way down to what your looking for

I got all my blinks devices hooked up and love it as well as the ability to watch tv.
I really like how the Echo Show 15 looks with the widgits. When the widgits come to the other Echo Shows in an update next year they won't look as good as they do on the Show 15.

Got Mine yesterday! Mounted in my hallway... I do like the control panel usage, commuter info (Chicago) and shopping list
I saved my Home Assistant as a favorite in the Silk browser and use Alexa to call it up when I need it. Home Assistant dashboard will stay active for about five or six hours in Silk if you don't use another skill that uses Silk browser like RUclips.
After using the Echo Show 15 for a few days, I wish there was a greater focus on it being a frame. The speed it rotates through images is ridiculous. I don’t understand why I can’t set the speed at like 5 minutes (or even longer). I also wish I could close the “drawer” with the widgets to make the image full screen and then tap to bring the widgets back. Or maybe have the device default to an art/photo screen saver if the camera doesn’t sense anyone nearby. Thinking of mounting vertically so the art images are fully visible when on the dashboard (since most are landscape orientation).
Got mine in the mail yesterday, it’s not perfect but I see the potential with all the screen real estate for future software updates

I love it! I agree with your comments and have a question. I would like to rename my other Echo Shows and am having a difficult time doing it. I also think the stand is pricy for just plastic.

I have no doubt they'll update the software later on since the product is brand new. I hope amazon dose not get too carried away and make more echo shows with much bigger screens unless they wanna intergrate there fire tv's and fire tv stick with echo show functionality.

We have had this for a week now and love it. As you indicated it does have a number of things that could be improved. It has a shopping list widget. It would be nice if that same widget could be set to another amazon command list. We have fire TV recast and to launch ABC we have to ask for the guide to open and ask to scroll down 3 times and the Play 23. We can not once the guide is open to ask to play ABC or Play 23. 23 is the Channel number. We are really looking forward to what the Sling TV interface will be. That said like yourself it is our command center in our kitchen. That display and what it does is wonderful vs the other smart device center. 100% agree with you there.

Great video as always ✌️. One thing I will say though is that I think that it’s a bit stingy of Amazon not to include a stand especially for that one. I also think that the price they charge for the accessories and stands is too much and yes $30 is too much for that stand.
Thanks! The stand is interesting because what if they included it and just charged $280 for everything. Maybe they were trying to keep the cost down for those who just wanted to mount it on the wall. Who knows.

The art/frame idea is great.
I wish it can be easily be removed in wall by just unlocking something so we have a choice if we want to watch something on the table or display the screen somewhere if not in use as a frame.
The thing I don't like about it is the camera, they said it's only 5mp. Hope they make it like an iPhone latest front cam quality.
And I wish they have an all black frame. Color choices.
+ I wish they update the frame mode display, I want 1 minute or more before the pics changes

I honestly can't believe that smart displays arent moving to a bigger size trend or anything. i feel like bigger size smart displays would sell much more and just judging on your video they would probably do really well in homes. google has gotta make a nest hub max+ or something, it would be dope and I'm willing to bet next generation smart displays will be bigger
For sure, that's probably where the trend is headed! Nest Hub Max+ has a good ring to it... if Google ever releases that, you should take all the credit.
I bought mine on the release day, but it took Amazon a whopping 9 days for them to deliver it. I am the only user so I don't use the visual id and I keep the camera shutter closed. The Echo 15 takes duty in my great-room, demoting my Echo 8 to the bedroom. I really wish the Echo 15 was thinner, but over-all it looks fine, not great, but fine. Out of the box I was surprised the sound was as good as it was, but to improve the sound I added a pair of Audioengine A2+ speakers in racing red to pair with the Echo 15 using bluetooth. I wish Alexa was a lot smarter, but I guess we are just not there yet. I'll try to be patient.
Great video. What about RUclips how does it display? I remember one of the videos that you reviewed the swivel echo that there were some quirks with it. Is it the same with this one?
Can it display RTSP cameras? Or do we still need to use Monocle?
Reed, you should find a VESA mount for it so you can attach under cabinet to keep you counter top clean & clear. And also please mute out your wake word like you did before. Thanks.

I wanted to get one but can’t get Phillips Hue set up in the Alexa app. It doesn’t work. So, I’ll be sticking with the Hub Max for now.
Any recommendations for best smart fans or if it's better to go with a smart switch and another hub? So many smart fans cost 2x much. 😭

How does the mediatek processor perform in this new Echo Show? I do like the bigger display.
Two years ago I bought my first Amazon Echo with a screen... Echo Show 5.... NEVER AGAIN! It displays ads every now and again and you can not remove the 'card' for that... It's an ad machine... Look at all the people trying to remove ads and 'Alexa for your day' ads.... It made good friends with my trash can. Good luck if you buy this....

Hey man, new subscriber here! Great video! So I read that the Echo Show 15 doesn’t support Zigbee. A little confused on that. How do I know which devices are still able to work with Alexa and which are using the Zigbee protocol? For example, if I choose to use Ring cameras and the alarm system, smart Yale locks, Ecobee thermostats and smart lighting? Am I still able to have Alexa lock doors, change temperature, activate the alarm, etc? Or do those use the Zigbee protocol and I’m forced to get the Echo Show 10?

Just a fyi. You can setup home assistant to show up on silk. There is a way to tell alexa to open home assistant (opens silk and goes to home assistant dash).
I got some water on my google home hub, is it still safe to use it?

You can install Home Assistant on Echo Show 15 now. I have seen some people posted their setup in HA subreddit.

So there is no included stand at all? Just the wall mount kit? That can be seen as a shortcoming. Still, comparably priced dashboards being so much smaller makes this thing well worth the money. I was thinking that this would just be a bigger, fancier, less portable Fire tablet before I actually watched the video. If it were, that still wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing.
I'm so frustrated with my Echo Show 15. All my devices show up and work in my Alexa app on my phone but when I select the SmartHome widget on my Echo Show 15, only my thermostat and Inovelli LED strip show up. I've tried factory resetting my Echo Show as well as searching for devices but no luck.
I bought the Show 15 purely for the SmartHome widget aspect and it's the one thing that doesn't work for me.
Do you think the echo 10 or echo 15 is better? Cant decide

After all the lousy firmware we have had to endure this year I just replaced my 2 show 5's with nest hubs and the show 8 is on the chopping block too if amazon doesn't get their act together soon.
Edited to add that you could add the echo sub to balance out the sound. I have 2 of them and really like them.
Thanks David! Unfortunately it does still have “alexa for you your day” but it hasn’t bothered me as much on this device as the other echo shows. The reason is that the widgets take up most of the screen so it’s just the small section shows it. So it is still annoying but not bad enough to not use it because of it.
Why does it feel like Amazon is more likely to update it to push ads vs. new UI features? I would have thought there would be much more progress on their Smart Home products in the past few years. My experience has been that I am still using the same cumbersome "routines" app (no PC support, very tedious to setup) from 3 years ago. My Fire TV app on the other hand, now shows full screen ads before flipping to my photo album. I have zero trust that Amazon will improve products at rate that I would buy something hoping it gets future features.
Need advice about my problem:
1. I add my Tuya/Smart Life device to HA,but only Bulbs supported/working.Temp & Humidity sensor,Gas sensor and Door Lock shows 'NOT SUPPORTED' (on Tuya Apps/Tuya IOT no problem)
2. How to add my A/C,TV (SmartThings) and washer (ThinQ) to HA?
3 .Already try install Tuya v2,but got problem on authorize error on HA,even already remove Tuya,new setup on Tuya IOT 😡
4 Before install Duck DNS on HA,i can connect my Note 9 phone to HA,but after install it cannot connect.
P/S I just want to compile all smart device on 1 apps for easy monitoring/handling.. 😥
For the wall mount do I need to use screws? I have a wall in my kitchen I'm thinking of getting one of these for, but I'd be required to use something like a Command sticky-type mount on the surface.

I think screws are required. It is actually kind of heavy. I was surprised at the weight.
Based on this, I would not trust any other wall mounting solutions.

Yeah it's pretty heavy so I agree with Chris! I've heard of someone using magnets on Reddit to mount it on their fridge, but screws are definitely the safest way to go for the wall.
