I'm your host, Darren Van Dam!
Tired of looking for good movies to watch on Netflix, Amazon Prime or other streaming services? Every week I recommend a handful of the best movies on Netflix, Amazon, HBO etc. so my subscribers never run out of good movies to watch on streaming. Spending 10 minutes watching one of my videos could save you hours of searching, hours that you could otherwise spend watching good movies on streaming that you otherwise might not have ever watched or even known about.
Thanks for watching! Развлечения

Great list! Safe House ABSOLUTELY deserves to be a much bigger thing than it was, couldn't agree more. Same with Killer Joe as odd as it is, the ensemble cast really elevates it. Richard Jewell would be a good movie even if it hadn't actually happened, but it did, which just boggles the mind. Unlocked looks worth the time, Shadow and Kung Fu Hustle intrigue me a lot, as does Ink. The top two I've seen, really enjoyed, and Bound would make a good Gina Gershon double with Killer Joe.
Thank you
Richard Jewell, Killer Joe
Killer joe
No Tears for the Dying. Really good Korean action film....emotional as well
The FBI really screwed over Albert Jewel. I was working for the Dept of State Diplomatic Security Service during the '96 Olympics. We assisted on the investigation, and conducted the search before the park re-opened.
Our team lead at the Dept of State had word from the FBI that they knew it wasn't Jewel. They had a report of a guy stopping at a mom and pop gas station outside Atlanta the night before, bragging about keeping an eye on the news the following night. That man was Eric Rudolph.
The only reason they kept investigating Jewel was to try to keep Rudolph in the area, but he was already long gone. Ruined Jewel's life, and he was a hero. I was there that night, it could have been so much worse.
My fav line in Kung Fu Hustle “he could have been a doctor or a lawyer. No probably a stunt man”
Kung fu hustle was great! That snake bite scene always makes me wheeze 😂😂😂
I own Kung Fu Hustle, I like it so much. I discovered I can play the movie with subtitles and dubbing simultaneously and it's such a hoot! It's like the people in charge of subtitles and the people in charge of dubbing never even talked to each other to try and synch up what was being said! The result is hilarious confusion and I love it! Great list Darren!
I can also recommend one of Stephen Chow's other movies, Shaolin Soccer. If you enjoyed Kung Fu Hustle, Shaolin Soccer is also well worth seeing.
Is it just me or it seems that American people are spoiled with dubbed movies? What a hell is wrong with original audio (and language) and just reading subtitle. I'm from Holland, I hate it when they are dubbing the movies in Dutch and instead of enjoying the voice of Liam Neeson I'm hearing the voice of some Hans or Kees figure..😁
Nothing beats the original audio.
Kang fu hustle is huge hit in India... Every late 90s anr early 20s kids in India watch this on tv.
Kung Fu Hustle also has one of the greatest scores in movie history. It's amazing.
Whoever made Ink also made another good one, I think it’s called Frame.
The original subtitled version of Kung-Fu Hustle is the only way to see the "why are we speaking English" joke.
I remember the Richard Jewell story as it unfolded. I had colleagues at the station who said they still thought he did it (that's the irretrievable nature of a media character assassination). What changed their mine was when the FBI was shown returning his firearms on national television. I said, "Do you think there would be any chance of the FBI personally returning firearms on national television if there was a scintilla of doubt about his innocence? Take it in, this as close to a public apology you'll ever see from government agencies."
Same here. The media is the enemy.
This is supposed to be >You< tube. If a friend came over to hangout, would you spam them with a VPN ad as well? Yeah, thats how i feel about it too.
I truly appreciate your videos. Your love of cinema shines through. My wife and I use your posts everytime we want to watch a move. Thank you!
What a G
Same here.
Suck up😊
Flick Connection ALWAYS has movies for me to enjoy!
Thank you so much.
Kung Fu Hustle should be bigger than Star Wars and the MCU combined.
Bound is arguably the Wachowskis' best movie.
I mean Gershon & Tilly.... Hell yeah but imo it's not even in the same caliber as the Matrix
A terrific list, as usual. I've seen most of these, mainly from Darren's recommendations, and they're all worth watching. Goon would make a great double feature with Slapshot, which stars Paul Newman. One of the things I loved about Avengement is that the main character isn't superhuman. It's similar to Nobody, which is also on Prime. Finally, I'd recommend the original Rollerball, starring James Caan, which has kind been forgotten about.
Rollerball rocks.
Jonathan E. baby!
Saw it when it came out in 1975. Great show. I was on a course at the time with a guy that was the spitting image of James Caan. He was forever known after that as Jonathan E.
Only problem is Amazon Prime is absolute garbage. Terribly organized, full of bugs and glitches and it seems like everything requires an additional subscription now
Kung Fu Hustle is one of my favorites!!
So many great flicks! A few I haven't seen, and a bunch I loved but haven't seen in while. You just keep adding to the list of movies I need to watch. As always, thanks, Darren! Loved Goon and Ink, by the way.
16:00 Ink is one of the most original stories ever brought to the screen, and the third act reveal is a gut punch that won't leave a dry eye in the audience.
Thank you very much. I really appreciate that you provide a list that I can save and look at later.
I'm a fan of all of your videos, but I have to admit, I think this one is getting me the most excited for a lot of films I haven't seen or even heard of. Keep doing the work, and I'll keep watching! Thank you!
I actually like native language with subtitles. I really hate voiceovers and have learned in my 7+ decades to read subtitles. (especially on fine anime which my youngest son got me hooked on)
What is one or two of your favorite anime? I haven’t watched any yet.
@@CerealDust-nStuff Kino's Journey series is more like the old Twilight Zone, Bleach series is interesting with unusual characters, Howl's Moving Castle is a movie there's so many good Anime and it's all from a different, than western, line of thought.
Thanks DVD great list! My 6th grade teacher actually showed us breakdown, I’ve always remembered it, but always forget about rewatching.
hahaha to the Kung Fu Hustle, one of my fav.too, unique in its way. Nice picks for this list, I like them all, some did not knew, keep it up
Many thanks for sharing this with us all. Several of these I have already enjoyed. Much appreciated.
I love the Nod you gave towards the Indie film 'Ink' it is so underrated. Also the soundtrack is a big part of that movie's allure.
Agreed! I watched 'Ink' and it made a big impact on me. And I bought the soundtrack. Definitely a must watch!
Jon Hamm plays such a prick in Richard Jewell.
Today I learned there are adults scared of subtitles
I found a vhs copy of Bound this weekend at a thrift store, was super stoked to finally find it in the wild
Great list! Bound slipped past me- looking forward to that
Thanks for the reminder about “Hard 8”. Time for a rewatch!
Thanks for helping me add a few movies to my queue. 👍
Yes! Great to see Safe House get a mention. So under-rated.
🤞for the extended cut of top gun! The middle of the movie was cut so bad. The back stories were way too rushed. Need a 4 hour version
Excellent FLICK CONNECTION Darren. Agree with you on AVENGEMENT at #4. Scott Adkins in his best role so far. Many thanks for sharing with us 👍👍👍
Ah, Kung Fu Hustle, watched it and then watched it again the next night - So much fun (wierd fun, but fun)
I love your vids. Uncanny how close my tastes are to your recommendations and opinions. Lots of respect for what you've created with your channel.
These are exactly the type of movies I LOVE showing in my Twitch stream. Already showed Richard Jewell, Ink, Hard Eight, and Bound. Killer Joe was terrific but it didn't make the stream. Jotted down 6 of the other ones as possible candidates. More of these please!!!
I haven't been this enthused about Prime Video in forever. Thank you! Subscribed.
INK!! I *LOVE* that movie! Thank you very much for including it on a list!
ink is a great recommendation! I remember seeing it like idk.. 15 years ago? and it always stuck with me. particularly the "rhythm of life" sequence.
Kung Fu Hustle is just amazing. Shaolin Soccer is like a good double feature.
Classic
So true
Stephen Chow is awesome for humor and action.
Dvd always bringing the heat!!! Please don’t ever stop man! You e turned me on to some of my new favorite movies!!!
Kung Fu Hustle at #1 for me
Great list! I was skeptical early on but then bang bang bang, Shadow, Kung Fu Hustle, Breakdown & Avengement? All slightly deeper cuts that totally rule. I’m definitely going to check out some of the things on here I haven’t seen.
Avengement is so good, I had that one from you on a previous recommendation video and this one is killer.
Same here. It was such a pleasant surprise. No black or white, just shades of grey in that one
Kung fu hustle is an awesome movie
We saw "Beast" in theater, it was fun. This is one of your rare lists where I've seen only half the movies!
So interesting about the story behind "Bound"! I didn't know that! I LOVED this movie and saw it near the time it came out. Thought it was stellar. I've seen most of these, but now have "Goon" and "Ink" on my list. Thanks!
Loved the way the movies are described. I remember watching Siskel and Ebert (yeah, I'm old) and how I new if I was going to like a movie or not, even if it was "Two Thumbs Down". That's the essence of a great movie critique or description. Well, gotta go, got a new watch list to watch. See ya later!
Gina Gershon had a chance to play Trinity in the Matrix but the Wachoski Bros actually ended up rescinding the offer because of a dispute over details in the script. Gershon insisted on Trinity never using firearms in the movie and thought it would be better if she was exclusively into bladed weapons. For whatever reason she would not give in and the Wachowski Bros wouldnt go for it, so they decided to just go with a different actor.
Wow, Gershon flubbed that HUGE opportunity up.
@@marcillioficino4663 I've met Gina multiple times. Trust me...she isn't worried about it.
If people can dodge bullets in The Matrix, good luck getting them with a knife.
I would SO much rather have seen Gina in that role! She's so fine!
@@friendofdavid1423 She was badass in Long kiss goodnight.
Hi Darren I specifically Love the Safe house, Bound and Breakdown. I have a recommendation to make: Could you possibly do a top 20 or 30 Scandinavian movies list? Thank you for everything.
Loved seeing Goon on this list, I had sort of forgotten about that movie.
I absolutely love Terry Gilliam. Even during the filming Heath Ledger passed away, but TG managed to finish the film. Find out why. Thanks Daz, great list as always and I may even try Beast. You have sold it to me. For some reason studios are not spending money on advertising, demographics, exposure, public relations, media and commination's, to mention just a few. Is it because you are doing it for them ? 😎😝🤗
There you are again!
Kung Fu Hustle is so entertaining… great list here Darren. Thanks so much for reminding me of the others.
I was so very happy as a 13 year old kid getting Kung Fu Hustle for my birthday after seeing it advertised. Still such a great movie.
Just watched breakdown and man, how good. The pacing was perfect and it had my attention the whole time. Very rare these days
Thanks for the awesome recommendation
Spot on about Safe House. Insane cast also.
I would have loved if they would have made a second part to Kung Fu Hustle
Thanks for giving KF Hustle some love
Thanks! Unlocked is a darn good movie!
Good going man . Finally one ithink illenjoy most .
Omg I fell in love with the quirkiness of the imaginarium of dr P when I found it !! Always thought that swap was weird for sure . Ink as well! I stumbled on those way back in high school when I googled “movies like mirrormask” movies not talked about enough so I loved their mention 😍🖤
All the movies on this list that Ive seen- are great, saw Avengement on your recommendation, and it does have that Guy Ritchie feel- which I love.
Will have to look up Unlocked and somehow I missed Hard Eight. Bound and Out of Time are worth the rewatch, its been years.
I absolutely LOVE Safehouse. It was thrilling and epic. I'm baffled it isn't beloved and more respected.
Kung Fu Hustle is one of my all time favorite movies ever made.
Darren, I love your content! I'm a big fan of weird movies and twists and turns. On another note, I love survival situations. I'm curious to know if you like anything from Gus Van Sant? I like the movie Gerry, with Matt Damon. Would you ever recommend that movie? 🤔
I'm not sure if this is available on prime video in the USA, but how about "Pontypool" 2009 I watched based a recommendation from a friend the other night and it's great, great example of how even with small budget good acting and great script still is great film
Kung Fu Hustle is severely underrated!
Long time fan of Avengement and Safe House! Based on this review I think I will check out Goon!
Ink he been a favorite of mine for years. Absolutely love it.
Bound, Out of Time and Unlocked were all great great. Thanks
The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus was phenomenal! I saw it in the theater and loved it.
Yes, it was great. Just know that the main actor had to be changed mid-film because he died in real life. I remembered the first time I saw this and was confused.
Ink. What a wonderful film by Jamin Winans, with a breathtaking finale. Also The Frame - by the same director - worth looking at. Thanks for the vid FC.
@10:10 I think you have a ghost in the room playing with the lights (to the right, behind. The light string.)
King Fu Hustle is one of my favourite movies. Tons of action and it’s hilariously funny. Shaolin Soccer is superb too which is another Stephen Chow classic.
Avengement is great. Didn’t even realize that was Scott Adkins in John Wick 4!
Killing it, I'm a big fan of Stephen Chow.
Darren I finally watched Shadow after you've been recommending it so much and man o man, what a crazy movie. Would never have watched it without your recommendation! Really thought provoking and many surprising moments that had my jaw on the floor for sure.
Just quick one, if I bought movies but cancel the subscription can i still watch my purchased stuff?
Loved Killer Joe! I’ve seen it a few times.
Watched Unlocked a few weeks ago. Really enjoyed it
Avengement was a movie recommendation from Flick Connection that has sent me down the Scott Adkins rabbit hole. Thank you.
Kung Fu Hustle.
Shaolin Soccer.
Great times.
Terry Gilliam praised Stephen Chow, saying Kung Fu Hustle was great from the opening scene.
Kung Fu Hustle is a MASTERPIECE. Definitely going to check out Bound on your recommendation. Also fan of Out of Time...
Good job, as always.
Ink is an absolute gem!!!!
unlocked impressed the hell out of me. i would have paid money to see this at the big screen.
Face off was hilarious.. again
Where's Killer Joe? I've been trying every country with the VPN and it isn't showing up on any of them
i love your content, thanks!
Best list of the year! ❤
When you said, “Far and away the weirdest movie…” I really thought you were about to talk about Far and Away. What ever happened to that movie? It was really fun. I feel like it should be on some “you forgot about this movie, and it’s better than you remember” lists
Thats an interesting tidbit on the matrix, I wonder if there were stipulations on the fourth matrix that would explain how rushed it was, seems like there was no faith in a 5th or 6th so they packed 2 or 3 movies into 1
Kung Fu Hustle is a classic! Love this movie!
Goon might be my favorite sleeper movie to tell people about because it genuinely comes out of left field.
The Killer was outstanding, thanks Darren.
Goon is a great movie. Saw it a while ago.
I watched Killer Joe and I'll never look at chicken drumsticks or Gina Gershon the same way again!! Lolol!
