The train on my wedding dress had a small ribbon, (or was it twill tape) loop on the underside that hooked over my middle finger. ( My dress had the deep pleats at the shoulders.) Some of the details are hard to remember as I was married 55 years ago yesterday.
After watching you get dressed, I thought -- Why are there so many hateful cartoons of them looking naked underneath? And then, you stepped into the light and for one moment, we saw your true silhouette. This was VERY informative both about the layers and the reason why "other" things were concluded. And to answer your question below -- YES! Please do film the washing! I find that once upon a time, we could get dirt and grass stains out, and now, I am sorely pressed to be able to do it with JUST modern detergents. This could be very informative and helpful for the costuming community who will -- inevitably-- find their hems badly soiled. Thank you for this video. The red pointy spencer was MAGNIFICENT!!!! NAILED IT!!! Stay well! Looking forward to more!
I've found that the magic ingredient for getting stains out is bicarbonate soda, you make a paste of it with a little dish soap, and then spread it out on your stain and lay it out in the sun for a few hours or 24 hours if there's no sun. Also if your fabric can handle it rubbing the fabric and paste together with your hands to cause a little friction and get the paste deeper into the fabric can also help if it's a really deep stain. Then once it's ready to wash, you can just put it in your machine, paste and all, and wash it on a regular cycle (use cold water though) and then air dry. If the stains really bad or old you may need to repeat this a few times, but I've never had to repeat it more then once and I've used this method to get engine oil out of a red linen skirt before. Also depending on fabric content you can mix lemon juice and bicarbonate soda together and use that paste to whiten your whites in the sun.
@@maidenrohina Baking soda is good, but if you can find it, washing soda is even better. My laundry products cabinet usually holds detergent, chlorine bleach, Fels Naptha soap (I need to find washing soda and borax locally), and ... lighter fluid. With those, I can get out almost every stain - the lighter fluid works on those impossible stains that you can't get out any other way. It got 3 year old makeup stains out of a cotton shirt (don't ask). I do not own fabric softener or dryer sheets. Useless modern marketing gimmicks! :-)
Hi:) The end result is GORGEOUS! I hope you were able to wash away the mud. I really appreciated the part when you showed the different layers and how you put them on yourself by yourself. And the montage with you wearing it outside was beautiful and inspiring too.
Beautiful! I have to admit, I winced at the sight of that gorgeous white dress dragging on the ground! I LOVE trains but this is the reason why I'm so hesitant to sew them for myself.
You look beautiful and I love the colour of your spencer! It was hilarious that you included the muddy train because I've seen so many videos of people wearing their historical costumes in the woods and I'm always wondering how they can bear to have them get dirty. But I guess that helps the historical accuracy and immersion, lol.
Some modern bridal bustles are made using ribbon. I would assume that historically this was likely. A thread loop at the hem and twill tape ties at the waist (inside) would do the trick. Ribbons slip so twill or self made ties would be best. I prefer small clear buttons and thread loops for bridal in my alterations business.
Mum had attached a ribbon loop (that my hand could go through) to the center back bottom of my train, then a button loop and snap for the train loop to go through. It bustled the train for dancing...
I really liked the part where you put everything on. It gave me a better understanding of how it all goes together and especially how to put on the dress you made last time.
accessories are needed! I'd love to see you make a Pelisse or a Spencer. And a reticule is a definite must. I just can't wait to see more projects from you.
oh, marika! you are gorgeous, and the ensemble is absolutely stunning!! the sleeveless spenser is glorious--so becoming! i adore your hair and make-up...so soft, pretty, romantic, and (yes, i know, it took a lot of effort) natural. :) and the shoes! great idea.
That Regency outfit turned out great and it looks absolutely stunning on you!!! 😍 And the way you did your hair! And your humour! ☺️ Well, I just really love your new video!🥰
I liked the making of the dress best, and really enjoyed all the undergarments, too. The spenser was interesting, but the mysteries of Regency under-things trumped it!
The outfit is amazing. The skills demonstrated are amazing. I am so, super impressed. I am also loving her BOOKS. I own so many of them as well! Now I want a book recommendation vlog. XD
Sorry so late to the party! Oh,that taffeta is sooo pretty. I love Rachel Maksy! She’s adorable. Omg! I’m totally here for the Regency Nymph Tassel Twirling!!! 🤣🤣🤣 The dress is beautiful and you looked stunning in it.
Oh, I am making a 24 inch „fashion doll“ out of muslin with soft batiste for the dress. I originally used Collette Wolff‘s „veronica“ patterns but am now going for detail that was not part of those wonderful patterns…. like a chemise, corset, stockings and fine kid shoes (found a pair of kid gloves at a thrift store that will supply my dolls with shoes and bags for awhile. Cannot wait to finish this one.
Beautiful dress/project! I’m in New England, I applaud your fortitude with the autumnal photo shoot! I wouldn’t dare! Not right historic period, but my mom’s wedding dress had a similar train and it has a loop on the end for the bride to slip her finger through and “carry” the train while dancing, that was in the 1970’s.
Oh I love the sleeveless spencerthing and your interpretation! I saw this fahion plate before and liked it immediately because it looks so different than the other Regency dresses.
OMG! The MUD! You need a long regency coat! lol. I may just have to make one too. My sewing has been delayed by finishing off my degree and helping my daughter with her "homeschooling". (sadness) I may finally be sewing my outfit during the wintertime in Texas. Not "terribly" cold, but it can be quite cold at times - we had snow one year. Unlike Wisconsin, Regency IS a livable fashion in this part of Texas. So I do hope to try to create some historybounding wardrobe
Stunning! I’m stealing that shoe hack for sure! Also, I think I love the construction of your white dress that it’s the way I want to go for my black regency dress (though without the train). The black is historically accurate, as my project is inspired by La Pola, a Colombian seamstress and revolutionary, whose portraiture shows her always in a black dress, often with a navy blue scarf or Spencer. I also hope it will show up the dirt a little less than a white dress.
My bridal gown was bustled up. Simply, the hooks were the same idea but on the inside, and I think that it was actually just eyes and ribbons. Just another idea that gives a slightly different drape for you to play with.. I also vote in favor of a turban out of the red taffeta to match the Spenser!
I just watched your video, went down a regency rabbit hole and ended up finding the perfect Kate Greenaway illustration for a pattern to make a winter coat. Thanks, Marika!!! Oh, I did not find a single illustration of doing anything but holding their gown trains, either. lol
This project was really delightful. I loved the dress and all the accessories. You must have the turban as well. It will finish off the outfit. You looked amazing in the costume and I can't wait to see what comes next. Thankyou.
Please tell me you were able to get the mud stains out of your train! This whole project has been one of my favorites. I plan to order myself some linen for my own regency projects after Christmas. When I'm done shopping for birthdays, Christmas, and any holiday feats I need to budget for. Sometimes adulating is such a pain. Still this was a fun distraction from my regular Monday morning schedule. Btw, I just loved how you were watching Rachel Maksy while working on your projects. I'm so glad I'm not the only one who watches cos tube videos while working on my projects.
For some reason I'm loving your shoes... Love the over all look as well and it looks so comfy. Would be a great summer dress, without the train though.
Watching you make this outfit has reignited my love for sappy Regency romance novels and gotten me oh-so ready for Bridgerton to start on Netflix! I absolutely LOVE this outfit, and yes, you DO look like the most gorgeous autumn nymph! You should totally make a coordinating reticule and turban.
Love the whole look! I thought that gowns had a wide band of darker color on the bottom to hide the dirt and minimize stains. Also, I have heard of a wide strip of material made of woven horsehair sewed to the underside of trains to gather the dust and keep it off the gown material. Not sure if that’s a real thing or not, but it does sound practical.
WHAT 😮 That shoe hack is genius
I am all for hacks if I can't find what I want 😁😁😁
The train on my wedding dress had a small ribbon, (or was it twill tape) loop on the underside that hooked over my middle finger. ( My dress had the deep pleats at the shoulders.) Some of the details are hard to remember as I was married 55 years ago yesterday.
Hi Morgan!! Just watched you burning up stuff.
A wild Rachel Maksy appears!
I love her videos 😁😁
I came here to say the exact same thing!
Every time I see the fan laces tightened I fall more in love.
I know. I'd never seen that before and I was like 😲
The whole time you were outside walking around with the train trailing across the ground I was like 😱😱😱😱😆
😆😆😆
Oh me toooooo!
Yep! Internally screaming the whole time. This is why I don't wear white.
Same! The moment I saw that train dragging on the ground outside I cried a little.
I watched it coming and shook my head the whole time

It is shocking how much can be seen in certain lighting 😳😳😳

@@maidenrohina Thank you for this. I will have to try it.
That is one of my methods too if the sunlight soap doesn't work! It has worked on many of my kids clothes!

I love the round up - the "Oh I'm so pleased it done....well I still need to make...oh and that... oh and that too" Said every dress maker ever!
The getting dressed progression is really cool
Thank you 😁
The stays are awesome! Need me those!!!🥰
REALLY COOL!

Absolutely gorgeous ( and to see Rachel's channel on your phone was also a cool thing 😁)
Greetings from Portugal ❤🖤❤🖤❤🖤
Tis an autumnal Regency fairy in the glen. This turned out so beautifully.🥰 I love the reveal of the Lizzie Benet train.🤣

I would wear this every day if it were in my closet! What a beautiful ensemble!
That shoe hack was so clever and I absolutely love how the whole outfit came together!
Thank you 💜 😊
Love how the over-bodice came out, it looks amazing. So stylish.
I loved your stays and how you do them up. The shoe hack is also brilliant, but my fave, by far, is the fan lacing stays.
Thanks for showing the reality at the end. I had been fretting about that white train as you walked through that lovely scenery.
"6 inches deep in mud, I'm absolutely certain!" You totally rocked Lizzie scampering about the countryside! BEAUTIFUL! :-)

I wish I could like this (and most of your videos) a half-dozen times. There is SO much well presented information here. Kudos! Beautiful.
I do love when an outfit comes together. The styling, the accessories and the way it comes together with the outfit. Its just magical!
Beautiful ensemble! I’ve enjoyed this entire series so much. I really, really appreciated the demonstration of your coiffure. Just scrumptious! 🥰🍁🍂💜🧡
Wooooowww
That taffeta is LIFE. I could stare at that shifty colour change for HOURS.
I really liked the part where you put everything on. It gave me a better understanding of how it all goes together and especially how to put on the dress you made last time.
You opened your box of neatly organized closures and I though.... I could NEVER
I love the final look!! It reminds me of Dionysus/Bacchus as depicted in Fantasia with the color palette and the crown. 🥰
And make a holly crown for Christmas. This dress is wonderful and fantastic. I would love to make one of these with the over thing!
Lol! I was wondering how you were fairing in our lovely weather in your lovely dress. I loved the whole regency project! Thanks!

My wedding dress had thread loops and buttons. I had to go double check it. It hangs in my closet still 10 years later.
Congrats!!!❤❤❤( I didn't make it that long...😔)
That sleeveless Spencer is 🔥!!! Beautiful work!
That Regency outfit turned out great and it looks absolutely stunning on you!!! 😍 And the way you did your hair! And your humour! ☺️ Well, I just really love your new video!🥰

Total beauty! You always do such beautiful work and this is no exception! The perfect autumn ensemble.
I liked the making of the dress best, and really enjoyed all the undergarments, too.
The spenser was interesting, but the mysteries of Regency under-things trumped it!

Everything turned out so perfect! I think my favorite was your delightful little smug "I win" with your thread chicken. :)
Omg that necklace knitting is brilliant! Thank you!
It came out beautiful! The shoes and those little tassels are are so cute!
You are so lovely in this outfit. Just love this dress and Spencer. Love you from Mississauga!
Nothing like a game of thread chicken!
Gorgeous outfit. Love everything. Very clever shoes.
Sorry so late to the party! Oh,that taffeta is sooo pretty.

love that you're watching Rachel maksy!

What an absolutely beautiful outfit and love your work arounds!
So tempted to make a spencer similar to this out of a green lightweight wool or cotton velveteen.
This outfit is gorgeous and it looks GREAT on you!

I love the Tassels tooooooo! 😂
That's gorgeous! And yeah, I sympathize with that washing of the train/hem.
Just beautiful! Well done, M!!
I love this so so much, absolutely beautiful 😍
Your hair looks beautiful framing your face in that style!
Gorgeous!! You did a wonderful job on the outfit! Though oh man I bet that train is going to be a pain to wash!!
