If you try to do the voice over into the iPhone microphone it automatically silences the background music that is playing to avoid you re-recording the music track into the vocal track. So the only way to do it is to plug your headphones in and record into the microphone on the headphones. iMovie recognises that you have the headphones in and will play the background music track as you speak......
Touch Technology Review i hope you can answer my question: I also use Boya voice recorder and Beat Studio 3. How can I still able to listen the video and background music?? Each time I record, it always turn off the background music and the video sound. T.T I bought thr microphone to enhance the voiceover quality, turns out It makes me unable to create new content.. Really need your help
Again such an super simple explanation. You are a great teacher. Slow enough to follow with and actually watch it once and no need to rewatch a hundred times. THANK YOU!

Thanks man, greatly appreciate you taking the time to provide such positive feedback and support! It's OK about those few thumbs down, I guess you can't be all things to all people. If it was the other way around I might have a problem. But all good. Cheers!
There is no background noise removal tool in iMovie for iOS. however there is a great one on iMovie for OSX. So if you have a mac you can do it on that version of iMovie. Otherwise it would need to be done in another app. You can check this video out for some good iOS audio applications to consider: ruclips.net/video/MO3GMlElKYk/видео.html
Thank youuu, got a algebra project where i have to make a video explain a problem to the class, this will help me later on to edit my video and add my voice over
Great explanation. Is it possible to add an audio file recorded on your computer as a ‘voice over’ (in the same way you would add music)? I thought maybe to choose the add file option and then add the chose audio file to the clip in question?
Yeah sure you can do that. Just air drop the file across to your mobile phone save it to the files app. Tap on the plus button in iMovie to add the audio track.
Wow so many videos where people recommend you to buy extra recording devices or use a computer, like GOSH! just tell me how to do it the SIMPLIFIED WAY! thank you for this!!!
I love how you can lower the sound of the original video clip and use voiceovers and you don’t even need a mic. I started doing this because when I add my videos to iMovie the original sound sounds pretty low
Wow, and wow!! This video not only helped me with voiceovers but also showed me how to get to a place to edit my videos overall. Thank you so much, this is a game-changer for me. I was so lost and could not properly edit any of my youtube videos I posted.
Thank you so much for this! I have to do videos for work once a month and a lot of them are spliced together. Figured out how to do it on iMovie but couldn't figure out the voice over part of it all. Thank you!
When you record the voice over in this way it does record a separate track which you'll see depicted by a purple bar. Now if you can't quite hear the audio from the video, which is still there. Tap on the video track and then adjust the volume. If you want more control over the audio of the video track you can tap on detach and you'll see it appear on the timeline.
I added all my voice overs and they were perfect. Went back to review video and all the voice overs aren’t playing but they are still there. I’ve tried everything to fix it. Any ideas ?
You can do it in multiple takes just tap on stop and accept to lay down the first voice over. Then move the playhead to the next position in the timeline and record the next VO and so on.
How do I fix it if it says "Unable to obtain use of the audio imput device", I was really hoping this video would explain that. As my iphone wont allow me to use voiceover for some reason
Yes you can drag them in as audio files straight onto the timeline. So first step is to share the audio file and get it to go into the files section of your phone and then copy to the iMovie folder then access the audio files when you tap on the + button in iMovie.
Yes to both, hit command and space on the Macbook Pro to bring up the search bar and type in Voice Memo. If you connect your airpods to your mac you can use them to record the audio and listen back too.
Hi, i have a slight problem with IMovie. If I have a screen recording and then import it to imovie, then do a voiceover, iMovie cuts out someof the screen so people can't see what's going on.. kind of disappointing. Is it just like that or is there a solution?
If your screen recording is portrait vertical format, iMovie crops it and tries to make it fit into the 16x9 horizontal crop format. So can do one of two things. tap on the screen recording video clip thumbnail then tap on the pinch and zoom icon in the preview window then pinch the clip so that it fits into the 16x9 crop. however you will get black bars to each side. Otherwise re-record the screen recording in horizontal mode.
You would need to add media on the timeline to the length that you want then do the voice over to match it. So insert a a video or image/s first. Get them to fill the time you want 1-2 hours etc then record the voice over.
Yes, detach will separate the audio track from the video track allowing you to edit it independently of the video, you can cut it, change volume and move the audio track along the timeline without effecting the video.
Yes you should be able to, if you have a pre iPhone X model you can input an external mic onto the headphone jack. If you have an iPhone X you’ll need the 3.5 to lightening adapter.
Oh my lord thank you ive been trying to figure this out for like 3 hours

How do i take a voiceover while the audio is still playing in the background during me taking my voiceover?
If you try to do the voice over into the iPhone microphone it automatically silences the background music that is playing to avoid you re-recording the music track into the vocal track. So the only way to do it is to plug your headphones in and record into the microphone on the headphones. iMovie recognises that you have the headphones in and will play the background music track as you speak......

When I tap on the timeline the submenu is partially greyed out. It offers only Duplicate or Delete. What do I have to do to get the audio to function?
Is there a way to record a voice over and hear the video at the same time?
