    Probably should also mention that there can and will be some drill instructors who do not care about their job at all, and despite this, do not get discouraged. Just because the drill instructor loses integrity, doesn't mean the recruit should. On top of this, learn how to swim prior. Marines who are looking to get far at the star lose all sense of leadership privileges if they are iron ducks. Other than these two the advice you gave covers a lot. I hope people appreciate it.

    • @Agent_Winters
      @Agent_Winters 9 лет назад

      I agree with you there. I but my point was that if you are looking to get far at the start.. Etc guide or a squad leader. My point is basically that not knowing how to swim can be a reason why a drill instructor will not put you in that position, or even worse take you out of that position. But your right in that sense. All in all boot camp is all checks in the box.

    • @Mautiks
      @Mautiks 9 лет назад +2

      Malice The fame
      When I was in boot camp, we didn't so swim qual until week 10 out of 13. The guide and squad leaders were already established for the remainder of boot camp at that point...

    The two biggest concepts that I did my best to apply when I went through basic were listen and learn. Listen to everything that your DI's teach you whether you understand it or not and learn as much as you can from them. However you lived your day to day life before you got to boot camp has zero applications once you are there. Your most important goal while in boot camp is to learn everything you need to know so that after you graduate you can go on to be the best Marine that you are capable of being.

    I'll never forget feeling snake bit in MCRD... just little things like having my shower shoes stolen as a joke and my bunk mate as well so I gave him my shoe and got ITed rather then have everyone dump their locker... later other recruits got my shit back. They failed to register my pullups on the iPFT and I nearly failed because of it also failed to write down pass on my swim qualification even though I passed it with flying colors. There was the time we were washing our clothing outside in the wash basins and two guys were talking shit and I got blamed for it. This kind of shit happens to some recruits and the best way to deal with it is to just accept the blame and take the punishment. This will earn the respect of your fellow recruits even if it does make it impossible to ever attain a leadership position.

    I don't agree with the advice to leave your girlfriend. Writing my girlfriend worked for me throughout basic and we're even getting married during HBL.
    You should never have any questions at boot camp. If you don't know, your buddy will know. If he doesn't know, then they haven't fucking told you so don't ask stupid questions. Questions waste time and it's just a trap for drill sergeants to fuck with you.
    A lot of people think the Marines will only take fitness studs. The military will make you fit.The minimum standards for the initial strength test are as follows:
    - 2 Pull Ups
    - 35 Sit Ups (2 minutes)
    - 1.5 Mile Run - 13:30

    • @SwissMarksman
      @SwissMarksman 10 лет назад +1

      AndrewDangerously It's allways good to make yourself fit before you join the Army. Trust me guys. Because I only had 1 week to prepare before I joined. Nothing worse than joining the army and running around like a cripple.
      btw, what happened to this channel?

    • @AndrewDangerously
      @AndrewDangerously 10 лет назад

      My point wasn't that you don't need to train. My point is that Marines are just like any other branch, they will take you as long as you can meet very minimal fitness standards. Bare in mind, there's a lot more to getting into the service than just fitness.

    Why would you want to be a jerk in boot camp? Yeah, I get you're in it for yourself but you get no friends and just enemies. It's not even a necessary way to act. You can still be a nice, cool guy and still be successful. But after boot, we beat up the kids who treated us like crap. Don't think that just because you are in boot camp or training that you get to treat others like crap. I was successful in boot and I made friends. The guys that were above me who treated me and others like crap, ended up not geting the awards I got. So what was their purpose? Always remember, the people you crap on are people and they won't forget what you did to them.

    Here is a good tip from personal experience. Make sure that you really want to go through with it. Don't do it just to satisfy, and/or please your mom or dad. Otherwise, you'll end up regretting it. I got screwed over many times in the Marine Corps. Don't ever listen to anyone's persuasion except your own. My father told me that women like a man in uniform. That turned out to be an empty lie. Every time I wore the uniform out to a bar, or a restaurant; I have never received any type of attention from the women there. I didn't even get a look

Was rewarded top candidate, physically fitness award . You are a credit and superiors will notice. One day they came and wanted to make me a officer big regreat I did not. Stayed in the ranks. Sir, you need medical help! I think the goal of the drill instructor is to make you feel like a prisoner of war. The drill instructors I had told what they couldn't do, and they chose to disobey their orders. Marine instructors are not allowed to hit or curse recruits, they did it anyway. Marine bootcamp is a transition period from being a civilian to military. You spend a lot of your day marching. That is a waste of time when they could do a better job of training Marines that might be sent into combat.
    Marines have a nickname, "Devildogs." As we bordered the bus after graduation the drill instructor said and I quote, "if you hate us when you leave here, we did our job." My thought was,"I hope you get hit by a car on the way home."

    If your overweight and have to diet to get into the marines join another branch because what will happen is you will lose the weight in boot camp cause of the workout and diet they will put you on. Then when you are done with all your training and get to your new duty station and you don't diet and exercise because you want to relax when you get off work or have a life etc. and become overweight. Your command will make you get up everyday for the next 4 years at 5 am to PT while everyone else is sleeping. It will be hard. They have high standards and if they think you don't look right in your uniform your going to PT. Also same goes for if you fail the PT test. I did not have this problem but a lot of marines I know did and it sucks.

    Since you were guide maybe you can answer this question. Should you volunteer for things? I've heard about a lot of stupid shit people got into because they decided to volunteer for something.

    I would really appreciate if youd reply to give me advice an what not, but im 18 an out of school, grad late but got it. Home financially is not so good an to me family is always first so im helping out but by next year im hoping to join the marine corps. My older brother is a marine but just got out of his contract but still has that 2-3 yr deal where they can still call him back. I want to join because, and i will admit, im a lazy fuck. I will get shit done but I am pretty fuckin lazy an I want discipline so i can be a better individual so to speak. But I want to do infantry, my brother doesnt want me to but he says if its what i want then do it. Its really something I want to do despite the cons of it so by next year after i help out around the house im going to enlist. I guess I want your opinion..

    ***** I plan to join the Marine Corps in two years after I graduate from college. I started training 3 months back for the marines even though working out and dieting is something I do everyday. One thing im worried about is the fact that I have a low arch on my feet or "flat feet." Will that effect me negatively on joining?

I've wanted to be a marine since I've been a little kid my sister who is 24 is a marine. I'm just nervous about joining cause I don't know if I really want to be one. I lift all the time and I have decent stamina, I was wondering what else I need to do before I enlist, sorta as prep?
