Your hair without your usual products and including not plopping STILL looks healthy, shiny, and beautiful! All of your hard work to take care of your hair has definitely paid off even when you don't use your regular routine! Lovely!
Thank you so much for making this video. I have been working on my hair for a couple of years. My hair is 2b-3a thick, corse, wiry, unruly , uneven, dry frizzbomb. For years I have tried everything silk pillow, silk bonnet, tried following the CGM, used good products, tried many different methods and combinations, perfect towel, you name it. My hair soaks up moisture and loses it just as quickly. Small amounts of protein are ok, but anything more it was even more dry and brittle. I’ve always had to hydrate daily, at least wet and condition daily. I stopped dying or using heat on my hair over 5 years ago to let my silver start to shine. I had never seen the wet plop method, I tried that today, it has made a world of difference. Absorbs all the good stuff I put on it, it clumps and stays that way. I have never seen my hair look the way it looks today. I can’t believe it. I just wanted to come on here and express my gratitude. You have led me through a journey. Thank you so much for doing what you do.
When I get out of the shower, while my hair is soaking wet, I take the end of a rattail comb and I poke around my hair and lift the hair off my scalp. My hair tends to plaster to my head and if I don't do this before plopping, then it sticks and I get no volume. This does cause quite a bit of water to drip, so then what I do is spray my hair with water before or plopping so then I can easily apply project and still have the squishy sound & clumps. I have very fine, 2b/2c hair and it dries very easily. I recommend this to anyone who gets hair plastered to their head after getting out of the shower.
Thanks for this! I have that problem too. I just started this curly/wavy hair journey, and I love the curl definition I get from plopping but I definitely have the same issue with hair plastering to my scalp and then drying flat at the roots. Gonna try this!
@@emily3 it helps a lot. Or raking your scalp with your fingers and then re-wetting your hair if you lose clumps from that. Anything to get your hair off your scalp is a plus! I feel like no one talks about it but it is terrible and creates zero volume when it's plastered! I also find that microplopping with a t-shirt after plopping for 5 mns gives me lots of curl definition.
I’m so new but I can’t figure out how to get my clumps & the top of my head not look crazy. Or I comb it out & look good on top w crazy stingy frizzy madness
Instead of paying for a t-shirt type of towel, I went to the baby section of my local Goodwill and bought receiving blankets for cheap and they work GREAT. They’re a good size too. Just make sure you get ones made out of t-shirt material.
@@amyschultz7103 you’re welcome! I hope it helps someone save a buck. Some of those blankets are also two layered. You can either have a thicker version, or do as I did, I cut them apart for 2 towels. T-shirt material doesn’t fray so no need to hem it. 😉
@@LadyKC67 I cut large tee shirts straight across under the arms and discarded the top portion. I took the body portion and slit it up both sides to make two plopping towels for micro plopping. No need to hem them, and they fold well to store in a basket or drawer.
That's actually a really great idea !! I have more of those laying around I can use then I do over size t shirts I want to actually wrap my hair in . Lol I have 3 kids so why did I not think of that !!!!
I just recently went back and watched your video where your husband does your voiceover. I cannot ever see the perfect haircare towel and not think "expensive black rag". I woke my husband up by randomly laughing at that line in the middle of the night. 🤣🤣🤣

The way I do it is: I put the leave in and squish my hair. When I'm done with squishing I micro plop. Then I put gel and squish my hair and then again I micro plop. After all that I finish with dry plop with microfiber turban. I hold the dry plop for about 20min then diffuse. I always have the best results that way. (I'm 2a/2b,thin hair)
I micro plop with the Perfect Haircare Towel, but then switch to the turban, to absorb more water. I have a lot more hair & my original towel is sopping wet from just the micro plopping.
Wow....6 ways! Fun to see your hair straighter; what difference your methods & products make! Thx to you I tried some new products (for me) & don't use a towel; too-small T-shirts are a perfect frugal solution for micro/dry plop of my shorter hair.
Thank you for the inspiration to try plopping again Courtney. I tried plopping early in my journey to healthier hair but it just didn’t work for me - my hair would dry funky and I didn’t see any improvement in clumping. But I’m much farther down the road now. I’ve been plopping again since watching this and it’s made a big difference in my clumps staying intact while I air dry.
I used to just micro plop because dry plopping left me with super stringy clumps. I watched the bowl method video and tried wet plopping and loved the results. I have a very well-worn out, soft as can be lightweight flannel shirt. I use that to dry plop my hair. My hair isn't long enough to plop like yours, so bending over usually works well.
I am now 7 months in transition. I recently discovered wet ploppling and I love it. After 20 minutes, I microplop and the apply the Aveda Be Curly spray and of to diffusing I go.
Omg this was a great video!! So thorough and informative! I am overflowing with gratitude for you and your ability to share this information that in a way that I can process! You’re amazing! Thank you!
That tragic piano music for the non-plopped hair 😂 This video is so helpful for me, I get so overwhelmed by all the info on the internet and it is nice to have so much in one place, with easy instructions. Thank you!
14:12 I've just treated myself to a Perfect Haircare towel. The large one you can wrap your hair in. I've only been treating my hair as curly for a couple of weeks. Like yourself, I treated it as straight for years. Still not perfect...but getting there
I microplop when I first get out of the shower so my hair isn't dripping wet and weighing down my hair. Then I plop in a cheap hairnet I got from Walmart for roughly an hour so my hair can air dry for a little while. I take it down, add a little more mousse (the Aussie mousse) and diffuse to 90% dry. Then I dry plop it in the hairnet again until it's completely dry to encourage volume and shrinkage. I find the hairnet preferable to fishnet stockings as the holes are smaller and none of my curl clumps fall out of the plop but there's still plenty of small holes for air to get in.
Instead of fish net I use a hair net bonnet type thing that I ordered from their website, it’s called Scrunch It Breathe (they make the scrunch it brush). It has a drawstring the pulls it up on all sides. I find it still has all the benefit of fish net but theres still enough room for movement at the roots. There’s way less guess work wondering how dry it is. Plus you can loosen up the drawstrings to get even more movement. Your option is definitely a more budget friendly option.
@@lisabeckman6581 Oh, that's a good idea. I could see that being handy if you wanted to use your hairdryer with it, 'cause I don't think the hairnets I get would hold up to heat very well.
I just discovered the wet plop n it works perfectly for me! I love it! Less frizz, more definition AND volume! N it keeps the hair out of my face when i do my skin care and get dressed! I actually wet plop after micro plopping with a t shirt! I find that the wet plop after micro plopping actually speeds up my dry time! I wet plop a total of around 15 mins. Xo
It is cause i tend to use a lot of product. Lol...the micrplopping let's me soak up a little bit pf that so the perfect amount of product n water is still in my hair to effectively wet plop to get good results. I bet you we're confused at forst after reading my comment! I should have elaborated on my routine! You are so sweet to respond the way you did. You rock, curly sis! Xo
I tried your methode but a bit different: leave-in, micro, style products and after that wet plopping. Funny enough, my hair has less frizz and more definition. This is crazy. Thank you Jessica :)
I love the volume I get from plopping but all the hair product runs to my scalp, it makes my roots greasy and my scalp itchy. Microplopping works better but not as much volume 😣 I love your waves in this video! You legit have model hair 🤩 my son has the same waves and I’m so jealous of how effortless they look.
I still giggle over the line in the last plopping video, something to the effect of, and this is how you will attract any man you’ve ever wanted 😂 Thanks for the update, always eager for more tips!
Because I have bangs that get wonky with traditional dry plopping I’ve been micro plopping with my perfect haircare towel. I hold each section about 90 seconds, which does help a lot with my clumping, but my diffusing time is still pretty long and I don’t get much root volume. Now I’m curious to try dry plopping for 10-20 minutes and just deal with bang situation separately.
I found a shower cap that has microfiber liner. So I put that on right out of shower but i dont press my hair to get water out until, once i take my hair out i micro plop with a Tshirt and then I defuse half way and let it all air dry. I have found this works for me. so combing ways can also work. If i dont plop at all my hair looks awful
I found that brushing my hair (in the shower with styler in it) upside-down but focusing on 4 sections instead of straight forward/down. I do sides out at from my head, front forward, and then the top/back like a mohawk. That helped my weird cowlicks.
@@mc_creates3499 so you style your top sections in front of your face and your sections on your back are combed back on your back? Sorry I'm from Germany and I don't understand your last sentences 😂😂
@@franzi_xx8937 I get how that can be confusing, sorry! Still upside down, I try to make sure I create a section from the crown of my head and take that down flat like a mohawk, hair standing straight up if I was right side up. Then I scrunch in those clumps and plop and finish showering. Hope that helped at all!
I adore these videos and your help. It is evident you are a believer (aside from decor and t shirts) due to how humble and benevolent you are in your speech. :) Thank you.
I have 2b/c hair. I squish to condish, then scrunch in leaving, then get dried off, take a few minutes to drip dry. Then I will mircroplop, then assemble my final plop. I will let the final plop sit for 30min to an hour. If I feel like it I will diffuse to 80 percent dry. This gives me such pretty shrinkage and definition. I have tried finger coiling/ forming once and I got very pretty uniform curls. Today I am going to try the coiling and then using a diffuser to speed up dry time.
I love that you stole your husband's t-shirt for this! I did the same! I stole a Calvin Klein t-shirt my hubby loved but it is SUCH a perfect fabric! It's so soft, perfectly stretchy and is thick enough for sleeping with my wet hair after it's wet plopped and I can scrunch and diffuse in the am and be out the door in legit 10 minutes after getting out of bed! Which is clutch because I have to be in the office by 6:45am! I do like my perfect haircare towel (I have 2, bought the perfect haircare towel with the brush, one set lives in my travel toiletry bag) but t-shirt is just a bit thicker and gets it drier faster! I keep editing my comment as I go through the video! I just have to comment on the "warm moist dark" RE overnight, my sleeping temp is 57 degrees Fahrenheit! 😂❄️
Thank you so much for this video! My PHC towel’s loop snapped and I haven’t had time to purchase a new one, so finding a different way to tie the towel is a lifesaver. Micro-plopping is my favorite way to plop my waves and curls though.
I found this video useful. my hair is similar like yours when it's dried w no product but with more frizz. the first time I plop, my hair turned very wavy-ish (between 2a/2b?) so that's very surprising for someone who has been "straight passing" her entire life lmao. tbh, it made me feel like such a poser, cuz I thought...well maybe its like that cuz if you put your hair in plop like that, it definitely would be wavy/curly right? until I started to regularly plop, my hair ACTUALLY remain that style for entire day. I feel like I have been duped my entire life thinking I have straight hair. My hair disagree and now I identify as the wavy girl lol. Also learn not to brush my hair unless I want a lion mane from all the frizz.
Oh my gosh, I WISH my hair looked like yours in Texas on a very humid day! My goal most of the time is to get it to look like yours, lol. I have frizzy, wavy/curly type 2C hair.
I love your videos! They are sooo helpful. When you wet plop do you put all your stylers in first and then put it in the plop? How long do you leave it in the plop?
IMO you're using the different plopping types correctly 🤷 Wet plopping means you're plopping to keep wet, dry plopping is plopping to dry. Just like you said. I personally "wet plop" only with my leave in, in order to do skincare, get dressed, etc, without any drying happening AND to let the leave in soak into my hair. Other stylers I apply after removing the wet plop 🤗
Could you do a follow-up on fishnet plopping? I've heard of it but idk how you get your hair in it without squishing your curls and ending up with wonky curls...
Thank you for this! I'm going to try the wet plopping method because my hair has no idea what curl clumps are 🤣 I get beautiful waves and curls but they are a stringy separated mess.
I use the same exact towel (it's easier for me than trying to tie anything) & plop in the same exact way. I leave it on long enough to apply all my body lotions, powders, skincare, deoderant etc & get dressed then I put a smaller towel around my neck & shoulders & let my wet hair settle & air dry for a bit before diffusing. My hair is curlier when damp or when the air is more humid. I have to lock in that curl pattern & moisture with a light weight but strong hold product like mousse, & if it dries too quickly it will just go straight. It's always less wavy in the drier Summer months which is frustrating. I might try the wet plopping then. Thanks!
QUESTION!! I've been searching desperately through your videos and on the internet in general, but I can NOT figure out how to get my hair to lay correctly and not separate into a stringy snarly mess after I turn right side up after doing methods that have me be upside down. Please help!!
Hey wavy girls I need some hair help. No matter how much gel I use and whether I use a curl defining cream first or not, I still get some sections that fall completely flat and straight. Any tips?
I have long coarse hair, I like plopping for definition, but I always get a mess in the back on my scalp after I finish plopping.. It always ends up wonky, or tangled, and if I fix that area, I lose all the definition I just worked on. So sad lol. Not sure how to fix this issue??
Hey Courtney, Great video! Have you ever tried the scrunching microfiber gloves? Based on your definitions, I think they would be used for micro plopping. I'd love to hear your thoughts. Thanks!
I've tried plopping and it's a no go for me. I realized when I tried it few times my scalp was terribly itchy. All the product dripping onto my scalp made it very unhappy. I just use my perfect hair care towel to gently wrap my hair much like I did with a terry towel before. So my hair is gently wrapped but not dripping onto my scalp, only for as long as it takes me to do my skin care and get dressed then it comes off right away and I air dry. Thankfully my mermaid waves seem to stay. My scalp just can't stand product on it. Shampoo is for my scalp and the rest is for my hair so i don't usually apply anything else to my scalp. Unless I'm using the curlsmith scalp line but even that conditioner is use sparingly.
So helpful, as my plopping (and air drying the rest of the way-- can't use a diffuser due to joint problems) was just messing up my curl clumps and creating weird kinks in my 2a/2b hair. I think you should know that the word plop is used frequently in our house by my husband, but as a noun, and slightly modified, as in, "I need to go take a plopper" (dump) or "I'm going to take a ploppity." He said this once to one of his grad students during a night of observing at a telescope in Chile, and the student looked at him and said, "Did you just say 'ploppity'?!?" End of digression. Love your videos. Have you ever reviewed Ouidad products?
I have long hair , just starting with my curly journey When I plop my hair gets tangled at at the back when I take the towel off So the side fall down and the back of my head is all tangled 😢
I can't get t-shirt plopping to work for the life of me! It smashes my hair down onto my scalp no matter how loose I tie it and creates clumps ON my scalp, which in turn creates really weird parts and pieces going every direction. Not cute 😄 next to try is wet plopping!
But what ig your hair is shorter, like shoulder length. When do you comb your hair? I tried plopping but afterwards it was incredibly tangled so i had to brush it out.
Can you get all science-y and talk about why our wavy/curly hair takes SO MUCH LONGER to dry with stylers in it versus when there are no stylers? I'm an air dry girl and with a toddler it's becoming impossible for me to figure out when I can wash my hair so its has time to dry but also not stay up til 1 in the morning or not take my daughter outside cause my hair is still wet. Ugh the struggle is real. Anyway that would be an interesting video to me. Thanks😊
Hi Courtney! Can I do the wet plop with a plastic bag? I have so much hair and the shower cap and they don't fit in the shower cap XD And, another question: when you talk about the transition phase... how long does it usually last? I'm using the curly girl method since january more or less, and I already have achieved incredible results... if my hair would become curlier than now, I would be the happiest person in the world!
The issue i have is that the front looks great but when I let my hair down after plopping the hair on the back of my head does not release like the front, it kind of stuck together and weird. How do you avoid that?
Great explanations! I use the perfect Haircare towel with “pigtails” also but I just gather them in the drawstring 😁 I know people also wet plop with fishnets or a hairnet to help it dry as well. Have you ever tried it?

I love the volume I get from plopping but all the hair product runs to my scalp, it makes my roots greasy and my scalp itchy. Microplopping works better but not as much volume 😣 I love your waves in this video! You legit have model hair 🤩 my son has the same waves and I’m so jealous of how effortless they look.
Why did that ridiculous "plop" montage make me laugh so hard?😆
I still giggle over the line in the last plopping video, something to the effect of, and this is how you will attract any man you’ve ever wanted 😂
Thanks for the update, always eager for more tips!
omg early! plopping = life :) thx for the helpful vid!
I got the Perfect towel from your link a while back and I love it! Good to see a few ways to do it.
Where did you get the shower cap?
Thank you for this! I’m coming up my second official curly wash day, and I low-key messed up my first with the aftercare, fingers crossed!
I love the curl I get from plopping but I can’t stand how cow-licky my hair gets from plopping and upside down styling.
I found that brushing my hair (in the shower with styler in it) upside-down but focusing on 4 sections instead of straight forward/down. I do sides out at from my head, front forward, and then the top/back like a mohawk. That helped my weird cowlicks.
@@mc_creates3499 interesting, thank u!
I also use a denman brush upside down after applying my leave in or curl cream, focusing on my weird cowlick in the back, helps so much!
This was so helpful! I've been struggling with the perfect haircare towel. Can't wait to try it.
I would have loved to see you in fishnets ;) Great video. Thank you :)
The Ulta Gorgeous Hair Event starts tomorrow...would love a video of your recommendations or items you want to try from the sale!
That sounds like an awesome t-shirt! And no worries on the edits lol. But brrr!
I have really enjoyed your videos. Thank you for all the time and effort you put into these.
Plopping made me love my hair
You have gorgeous hair with without styling! Healthy, shiny and just beautiful!
Thank you so much! There are plenty of days where no styling is involved! Sometimes it just stays up in a bun/pineapple!
Girl do you even need products?!!! Look at those no product curls! If I went product free I would look like Monica on Friends when she’s on vacation!😂
Your hair is beautiful omg I'm so jealous.
Thank you so much for this video! My PHC towel’s loop snapped and I haven’t had time to purchase a new one, so finding a different way to tie the towel is a lifesaver. Micro-plopping is my favorite way to plop my waves and curls though.
You can sew on a tiny ponytail holder as a loop.
That was very helpful thank you so much for the video!
If you have hygral fatigue the first way of plopping isn't bad?
Hi Courtney - Great video! Have u tried the Scrunch It Curls Breathe Cap?
I appreciate the demonstrations and explanations!
Oh my gosh, I WISH my hair looked like yours in Texas on a very humid day! My goal most of the time is to get it to look like yours, lol. I have frizzy, wavy/curly type 2C hair.
Awe humidity is sooo tough!!! Plus, we are all different!
I'd love to see another more recent diffusing hair video! This one was helpful too. 😁
I love your videos! They are sooo helpful. When you wet plop do you put all your stylers in first and then put it in the plop? How long do you leave it in the plop?
Wow! That's a huge difference.
Well, I was pulsing while micro plopping. Thank you for teaching me the proper way.
Could you do a follow-up on fishnet plopping? I've heard of it but idk how you get your hair in it without squishing your curls and ending up with wonky curls...
I just tried it with a regular hair net...mixed results my hair isn't too long though
Thanks!
I have the fluffy microfibre towels are those the wrong ones?
Can I make leave in with watered down conditioner?
Hi courtney! what products do you use on your hair? Do you use moose or leave in conditioner?
QUESTION!! I've been searching desperately through your videos and on the internet in general, but I can NOT figure out how to get my hair to lay correctly and not separate into a stringy snarly mess after I turn right side up after doing methods that have me be upside down. Please help!!
Same
Maybe watch her upright styling videos
Hey wavy girls I need some hair help. No matter how much gel I use and whether I use a curl defining cream first or not, I still get some sections that fall completely flat and straight. Any tips?
Prayer hands and mousse after gel
Is this towel the same material as the decathlon ones?
3:44 I legit thought you straightened and curled your hair w/ hot tools. If ONLY my hair air dried that nice.
I have long coarse hair, I like plopping for definition, but I always get a mess in the back on my scalp after I finish plopping.. It always ends up wonky, or tangled, and if I fix that area, I lose all the definition I just worked on. So sad lol. Not sure how to fix this issue??
I have the same problem! Have yet to find a way to fix this.
@@timshunny0276 did you find a solution? Same here!
Wait, how long do you dry plop for??
I believe she said 10 - 20 minutes.
@@sandybrown8698 tyyyy I must've missed it
OMG the word PLOP makes me cringe - but wow, all the things you’ve said are so true! Got to master that plopping technique 👍🏻
What if you don’t want to wash and go through all that every day, what do you do next morning?
Hey Courtney, Great video! Have you ever tried the scrunching microfiber gloves? Based on your definitions, I think they would be used for micro plopping. I'd love to hear your thoughts. Thanks!
I've never heard of them! How cool. Where can I find them?
@@stellaclark7885 Hi Stella, I ordered mine off of Amazon.
@@vanessamalik1102 , thanks!
Great video. I was really hoping you'd show how to plop with the Perfect Haircare Towel from standing (as if in the shower). Maybe next time??
Question about wet plop. Would piling your hair in the shower cap get leave on on my roots?
Unless I'm using the curlsmith scalp line but even that conditioner is use sparingly.
the itchiness is so real!! 😭
So helpful, as my plopping (and air drying the rest of the way-- can't use a diffuser due to joint problems) was just messing up my curl clumps and creating weird kinks in my 2a/2b hair.
I think you should know that the word plop is used frequently in our house by my husband, but as a noun, and slightly modified, as in, "I need to go take a plopper" (dump) or "I'm going to take a ploppity." He said this once to one of his grad students during a night of observing at a telescope in Chile, and the student looked at him and said, "Did you just say 'ploppity'?!?"
End of digression. Love your videos. Have you ever reviewed Ouidad products?
What does Abby of that have to do with plopping hair? Lol
Can you do a video that shows the defuse drying method?
I also think your hair is pretty in the beginning of the video. I get bored after awhile and like to switch things up.
What about a moisturizing styling product like a one and done? Could you use that instead of the leave-in/gel combo?
Absolutly! I've used more of these in my more recent video's showing a simpler routine!
I have long hair , just starting with my curly journey
When I plop my hair gets tangled at at the back when I take the towel off
So the side fall down and the back of my head is all tangled 😢
You are helpful and thank you
I can't get t-shirt plopping to work for the life of me! It smashes my hair down onto my scalp no matter how loose I tie it and creates clumps ON my scalp, which in turn creates really weird parts and pieces going every direction. Not cute 😄 next to try is wet plopping!
Omg this is meee. Did you find a method that worked?
Great video!!
Thanks😊
How long do you plop for? Until the hair is totally dry, mostly dry?
who else has just started the curly girl method and is watching this and going when will my hair be like Courtney's
Hmmm what if your curly hair is short, will this work?
Great explanations! I use the perfect Haircare towel with “pigtails” also but I just gather them in the drawstring 😁 I know people also wet plop with fishnets or a hairnet to help it dry as well. Have you ever tried it?
Fishnet like tights?
