P&O Arvia 7 Night Caribbean Cruise & Maleth Aero 16 Hour Delay (Part 3)

  • It's the finale of this 3 part P&O Arvia Caribbean cruise experience! Make sure you have caught the first 2 parts before watching, unless you're just here for the Maleth section, of course! In this vlog we start off with a sea day as we head from St Maarten to Antigua, enjoying a relaxing day in the sun, swimming and eating at a range of restaurants, including dinner at Green & Co. speciality plant-based restaurant. The next day we arrive into Antigua for our last day - or at least so we thought... I show you the whole check-out process for a fly-cruise, what happens to your luggage when bonded, and of course we make the most of Antigua after an important announcement from the Captain about our return flights to the UK with Maleth Aero. I show you how to get to Dickenson Bay and where to find an awesome rum punch! On our return to Arvia, it's quite literally all down hill on a stressful, upsetting and exhausting 16 hour delay where we are treated very poorly and we experience unbelievable delay after delay after delay. Will will make it back to the UK in time to see in New Year? Hold on to your hats, here we go!

      I think very few of your followers have delicate ears, so just go for it! What a horrible experience for you all. I read somewhere that Maleth's contract with P&O ceases at the end of March but don't know how true that is. Apparently the bulk of their Caribbean flights for next year will revert to TUI.

    OMG 😮 the delays!!! Never known anything as bad 😢 I really hope P&O didn't charge you for any extra purchases you had onboard. I just can't believe how bad this has been 😮 Although I can kinda understand that maybe due to safety regulations, they may not have been able to keep you onboard once the other passengers arrived. That said, in my hubble opinion they should have at the very least put you in a hotel

    Really enjoyed the first two episodes and seeing both of you enjoy the cruise. I was completely shocked when watched the third to see what happened, I hope there was some sort of compensation offered to everyone by P&O.

    WOW Jamie what a beyond awful experience for you and all the other pax. I was on the verge of booking another fly cruise to the Caribbean for next season but no way!! Love the Caribbean and that Rum Punch at Sneaky Pete’s is fabulous. Great you enjoyed Arvia.

    I'm actually exhausted just watching. Cruise did look amazing tho. Certainly put me off doing this certain fly cruise. Yes these things do happen but the way things were handled were shocking. About to watch the live I missed last week to see the outcome from p and o!! Love to u both x

    Wow! What an amazing trip, and its made me look forward to visiting many Caribbean islands on my 14 day cruise next year even more!
    I'm so sorry you had such a disastrous ending! Appalling treatment and worrying issues with the plane too! I think my flight is with TUI when I go next year and I do hope that the flight situation and P&O's response has significantly improved now. I do hope that you got lots of compensation too!

      @TravelBlogJamie that's terrible! Perhaps group legal action may be required as it was a package deal, and they failed spectacularly in delivering the flight element. I hope your insurers were helpful.

    Thanx for your video Jamie, I've cancelled my cruise with P&O, they actually took money from me for premium economy seats knowing full well they are using this terrible charter Maleth. So I'm booking with another cruise company now.

    What a shame after a great cruise! I am a solo traveller and that would have been a nightmare not knowing what was going on. I am sure it was for you both too. Ship and ports looked amazing. Thanks for sharing your experience. I hope P&O and Maleth learn lessons from this.

    We're really glad the cruise itself was so good, and hopefully, in time, those will be the memories you cherish. We really felt for you both, especially being stuck on the runway for so long, that's the absolute worst kind of delay. Bravo for highlighting all your issues to P&O, if they know what's good for them they will address everything you brought to their attention, they don't want to be upsetting one of youtubes top influencers now do they? 😉

    Feel for you both with the horrendous journey home - I would have been in tears if that happened to me. Such a shame to end a great holiday like that as it will be the most memorable for all the wrong reasons. X

    Hi Jamie, just catching up with your Caribbean holiday. It looked fabulous and Arvia too.
    The flying in general and the delay plus the fault, would have really spooked me.
    It's a real shame this happend and yes P&O need to sort it out.
    We have booked with P&O in November to the Canaries.
    It's a shame when things go wrong especially after such a lovely holiday. Its good to see the good and bad side of cruising.

      Just back from Azura- Canaries, all worked well ( jet2 flights good - just have to pick up one's luggage in Tenerife and take it to the coach, then it arrives in the cabin, on return usual - leave outside cabin- and see it next in home airport- worked perfect. Food good in the Peninsular, and Glass House, we prefer mdr for breakfast lunch and dinner, just our preference.

    Delays of any length are a pain in the arse but this is something else. P&O literally not giving a **** about their customers. Totally puts me off doing a fly cruise with P&O cruise.

      Every time I've been on p&o and something has not gone right, it's as if they have no procedure in place to cope with it. It's a complete shambles and disorganised scramble every single time!

    This is another great vlog. I think your reflections are very fair and I agree you were treated badly for your journey home. I hope you get a satisfactory response from P&O. We have two cruises booked after a very good cruise last year, but none are fly cruises!

    Fair play to you. I was delayed for around four or five hours in the summer at the airport. Boy was it taxing. Really does put a dampening on the travelling time. Well done to you both. I feel your pain

    Well… watched all three videos. As much as I love Arvia, Britannia and cruising round the Caribbean with P&O which I’ve done a few times, there’s no way I’m going again with them all the time they’re using Maleth for the flights! We didn’t go this Christmas as we are off to Oz 🇦🇺 in February but we want to go again in early 2025. Will wait and see who they sign up for the 24/25 Caribbean season! Really enjoyed the videos though - fabulous!

    Thanks Jamie for an informative view, ( we did p&O 2 yrs ago Caribbean and yes tui then ) suspected all along Maleth would be a disaster. We just back from Canaries - Azura- all went well with the Jet2 flights and cruise too.

    Just watched Part 3, and it sounds like a nightmare, Jamie. It's cemented my thoughts on P&O, never again. Unfortunately for me l got food poisoning after eating at the most expensive speciality restaurant on Brittania. So, I won't be sailing on P&O sometime soon. Keep those blogs coming.     Sorry for all the problems you had with your flight back home the happened to me when I went Spain we were stuck along time we some music on at the airport, but people kept turning it off all the time

    Somehow I bet once you received notification that Maleth were to be the carriers, you just knew it didn’t bode well.
    As someone who worries if I’ve nothing to worry about, I reckon the return flight would’ve been niggling away at the back of my mind all through the cruise… you had such a lovely time, I hope you can erase the homecoming bit from your memory bank.

    Total nightmare! That's one of the reasons I've given up fly/cruises - I'll stick to port to port holidays. Horrible for you to have to experience that but its definitely highlighted a major problem with the charter. Thank you ... Jaime

    We finally ditched p&o after our last cruise on the Aurora - our favourite ship. Every aspect of the experience has sadly continued to decline since the previous two. It's such a shame as we used to love p&o. Great price but sadly no longer worth it. I really hope they get their act together.

      Joking aside Jamie, I would have cancelled this cruise a long time ago or flew out independently. I have never heard of this airline before and with the reviews online about it, I would not have taken any chances with them. What you both experienced was regrettable, but on the flip side, it has brought the attention to many cruisers about p&o and in particular the airline to AVOID. Sincerely hope this will never happen again in your lifetime. Once is enough don’t you think? God bless. Happy future cruising 2024 and beyond

    I feel for you & Matthew with the many problems you had to deal with the delays with your flight. I now know why I do not take fly cruises. I enjoyed your Xmas cruise Vlogg it was very good & entertaining . What beautiful destinations you both visited. I hope your pets were well cared for.

    Wow. I remember seeing your Facebook posts and I thought that looked horrendous. Watching this video first hand sealed the deal. We aren’t going on that P&O Caribbean cruise I mentioned. We are spending a week in a villa in Fuerteventura and week skiing in Northern Finland. We were 3 hours late leaving Manchester going to Barbados due to snow last Jan and Neil nearly went loopy. If this was us I think we’d be facing a jail term now. To be honest I think you both coped really well.

    What I dont understand is where the people who decided to get off the plane were going and what was their plan? In truth, they probably made a bad situation ten times worse, with their luggage having to be identified and offloaded. I've heard lots of negative feedback about how Maleth have performed these past few months but, as I mentioned earlier in these comments, I believe their contract with P&O is up at the end of March and they were a stopgap when TUI decided they couldnt fulfill the P&O flight programme this winter. They certainly seem like an airline to avoid!

      I believe they booked on to another carrier a couple days later so they had to pay for accommodation and flights themselves

    I’m considering a transatlantic on Arvia in October but can’t bear the thought of flying back with Maleth. What a horrible experience you’ve both had!

    Oh! Good to know that there is a Retreat area - Arcadia didn’t have one (or misnamed their Retreat experience)!
    I much prefer the Retreat. I’m too relaxed to get up at the crack of dawn to save a lounger… .

      Arcadia doesn’t have a retreat as in outdoor lounge area - it has a function room called the retreat

    We have done many cruises with P&O, but we will not be booking a fly cruise with P&O again until i hear their reply to you and get rid of Maleth. What makes this worse is that the prices for next years fly cruises have gone up a lot.. Its a no from us. Id rather fly to Florida and pick up a Caribbean cruise from there.

    You were the picture of pain and misery, it was agony to watch that clock rack up such an appalling delay (was also imagining all those people with NYE plans totally scuppered too and a lot of people probably had a lot further to travel than Basingstoke - nightmare - AND try getting a last minute hotel on NYE and see how much THAT costs). I suppose in P&O’s defence re paying for stuff, if they announced everything was complimentary you might have had people ordering vintage champagne but they should have definitely given you all at least £20 credit. Keep us posted on the compensation.

    FYI. The trouble with airport delays is it’s absolutely beyond the control of individual entities.
    Flight departures are strictly timetabled, so if a scheduled time slot is missed, there’s no way to guarantee when you can be next slotted in to depart.
    Add to that, the passengers who opted to leave the flight, airport staff have to be taken away from their scheduled tasks to retrieve the relevant luggage (this is a security issue, which wouldn’t have been in place prior to 9/11).
    However: If you are travelling with special needs, none of this is consoling!

      You’ll be aware they didn’t actually retrieve all the luggage and left it on our flight? My main issue, however, is we were taken to and left at an airport all night when we knew there was no flight scheduled to leave at 4.30am. Add to this Maleth’s record of departure times for these fly cruises has been shocking. I’ve only ever had a flight cancelled once and we were put in a hotel overnight.

    Departure time is the pushback time not the take off time, not that helps, makes the delays look worse. The whole situation is ridiculous. The cruise looks amazing though- I haven’t done a cruise but I think I would like to!

      Whole week’s bill was £250 but that included some food and currency too - drinks package wouldn’t have been worth it for us

    Got to make the most of a bad situation. No point getting worked up or stressed about things. We’re on Britannia in the Caribbean at the moment. We’re expecting a delayed flight not sure why, but know it’s just one of those things

    We feel your pain. Maleth was an awful experience, but we were so fortunate not to have had the delay yourselves and others have had. We were on Arvia Nov/Dec. Unfortunately the Maleth experience seems to be getting worse as time passes by :(

    Jamie, I think P&O know that the Maleth Aero experience has been nothing short of a major disaster. I booked, some time ago, to fly out Arvia, for next Christmas and New Year and and the P&O Holiday Planner is already showing next years flights, and they all appear to be on TUI. Last Christmas the flights only appeared a few weeks before departure. I guess P&O are tied into a contract with Maleth Aero until the end of the winter season and will then dump Maleth. I wonder if we will see P&O suing Maleth for breach of contract.

    This is what stops me doing a Caribbean cruise that involves a flight home. It’s bad enough when all is on schedule with dreading the last day, but for this nightmare to happen would just be soul destroying and I don’t blame you for not wanting to do it again! I like P&O but it feels like they make the cut backs in the wrong places.

I can get over the flight on the way out as it’s exciting to be going on holiday, but I dread the last day, out of the cabin early and a long wait until the even longer flight home. I was on Arvia in May 2023 and loved the ship itself! Keep the videos coming! 😊

    This is why I never do a fly-cruise unless absolutely necessary. I wish P&O put Arvia on 35+ night round trip from Southampton itineraries to the Caribbean. Even though I love planes and flying, I can't deal with delays haha I'll be soooo p!ssed off lol. Arvia does do 22 night but they are still fly-cruises :( Anyway, round trips are amazing especially when you can bring so many bags hahaha. I remember bringing at least 5-6 bags on my 4 day trip to Amsterdam on Ventura back in October 2023. Hey I'm a woman so most of them bags was filled with clothes and makeup :D and a litre of cheeky booze.

      I’ve never had a problem doing fly cruises apart from with the notoriously bad Maleth (I’m actually in Bali right now and zero issues with flights either) - it would never put me off and we did a fly cruise a few weeks after this with, again, no problems. It’s Maleth through and through and thankfully P&O aren’t using them again after this month - phew 😮‍💨

    Great holiday with lovely videos BUT what a nightmare journey home. I’m like Matthew, can’t sleep on flights. We had an awful flight home from Mexico a couple of years ago with a crying baby next to us for six solid hours when she finally slept through exhaustion I think.

    I flew back to Newcastle the day you took off. Tui flight was great. Perfect . Now after so many bad reports about Malath I will never use P and o again You don`t know what Airline you getting to well after you book your cruise.

    Truly horrendous experience. I think that in addition to compensation P&O should commit to introducing a procedure for if these circumstances happen again E.g. setting aside an area of the ship where you can sit and eat, allowing you to stay onboard in this area until the latest time necessary, sending you to the airport with a bottle of water and a picnic of a sandwich, fruit and cake etc. Literally anything rather than dump you at the airport for the night with nothing!

      Thanks. They really need to undertake a Health and Safety risk assessment and have a plan in place. We were considering this cruise for next Christmas with my children and elderly Mum. Although she is in good health I fear that she wouldn’t cope with what you went through and so it’s putting me off.

    Confirms why I do UK ports departure/return cruises only! Would need a holiday to get over such a terrible experience. Negates the benefits you accumulated with a lovely relaxing cruise. I skipped forward to your Tui flight experience and so glad that one made up for it! ❤😊

      Some felt unsafe, others said there was a spillage from the toilet (but there were 50 spare seats so I don’t know why they didn’t take those). And of course everyone had had no sleep which didn’t help

    What a nightmare, I noticed the flight board on ship listed one with BA and one with Virgin, is it just pot luck which airline you are assigned to fly back with? On Arvia in October for 22 nights, first ever fly cruise (one way back to UK)

    According to the solicitors dealing with the Maleth aero flight that had severe turbulence - other operators avoided the storm by going around it.
    The Maleth flight did not 😮

    Hola Jamie! So I’ve been following along on your journey on IG. But when I saw this vlog, of how the horror was unfolding. All I kept saying was WOW with a shock face! That was horrible! That you and Maffoo had to sleep on loungers! Thank goodness it was hot weather but still! It’s such a shame to have such a fantastic cruise and have it end this way! The passengers were more civilized than other cruise line would have been! I hope you and the other passengers take legal actions.

    Great video. I think P and O regularly pull a fast one with cessation of onboard internet access. On our Iona cruise in September my wife paid the GBP 12 or whatever it is per day. The disembarkation instructions clearly stated that you would remain connected until you left the ship, They pulled the plug on it at 5:30 am hoping nobody would notice but of course it becomes readily apparent if you're in a lower deck inside cabin. Up in reception after using UK mobile data for a couple of hours the staff member made some feeble excuses that my wife had messed up the phone settings, She hadn't touched them you're either connected to onboard internet or you're not. It took 1 month, a few emails and three phone calls for P&O to cough up £25 refund. Being left without internet was even more disgraceful in your situation which was of their and their shoddy charter airlines making.

    Yes agreed with you there Jamie + Matthew not a nice experience, feel for you with that experience, I think P&O NEED to rethink their contract with Maleth Aero to save their custom and yes I hope you get the response your hoping for with your complaint!, I flew Virgin Last year and It was one if not the best airline I've flown with, this year its with TUI which I don't mind either, I would not have gone if Maleth was the option though, sounds like they chose a no-frills airline to cut costs and its backfired big time on them, so I hope to save their skin and reputation they drop Maleth ASAP!

So P&O need to sort this terrible mess out and sack them before they make a massive loss . Love your blogs ! ❤

    Knowing what was to come didn’t make this any easier to watch. I suspect the percentage of recording that fell by the wayside because of your language and temper was quite high. I can imagine how difficult it would have been to show restraint especially with the constant lies coming from P&O. Having once experienced a dreadful night in Philadelphia airport waiting for a flight delayed by bad weather in Puerto Rico and with all amenities closed, I certainly sympathise with the unpleasant situation you and your fellow passengers found yourself in. Made worse by lies, your situation was intolerable. I know by law, Maleth have to pay up for the delays but the immediate reply from P&O after your return was totally disgraceful. However, your positive attitude to this on Monday’s live and your clear enjoyment of the cruise side make your vlogs a pleasure to watch.

      Yes its just a bad cost cutting move BY P&O, we flew back with tui and it was really good. ( arvias inaugural transatlantic cruise) .. I do feel for the people that had to endure long delays and awful seating .. Great blogs BTW

    We flew out on maleth Manchester to Antigua on the 2nd Dec. 8hr delay. Absolute joke of an airline. Made a compensation claim the next day via a link issued on a leaflet left in our cabin. Chased at the beginning of Jan. maleth said they hadn’t received it and had to re-submit. had an acknowledgment but nothing else. The flight home was delayed by 30 mins but my god the worst flight ever. The planes are not fit for purpose no leg room, bits of the interior missing or falling off. Sent a detailed complaint to P&O. Had a reply, only an apology and they said they can’t offer any compensation or goodwill gesture. Wont be booking again until they sort it out
