PSA, do not use acetone or isopropyl alcohol to clean scuffs or glue stains on the patent leather, the 2024 legend blue lacks a clear coat unlike the previous 11 retros. I had bought a pair with some glue stains on the patent leather so I tried cleaning it with acetone + q tip. As soon as a i dabbed a little bit of it on a glue stain it immediately ruined the shiny finish, as soon as it touched it was absorbed. This is why the patent leather feels kind of rough on these. Luckily I was able to exchange it for another pair at the Nike store.
@@brandonfryer5104 it's such a key detail.. for folks who rocked the originals in the 90s, it was so neat to see on your feet. My playoff 11 lows always looked aggressive 🔥
Real talk this medial flange/outrigger improved how they played on court too None of the retros have ever gotten this right, all of the retros are a more narrow shoe in the forefoot than the OGs we're, sadly. @nike this is like the last thing that needs fixing on the next run of XIs 🙌🏻 preeeeety please
I've always liked the fact that when the Columbia's would age (yellowed), it almost became a "new" shoe. I'm a big fan of the cream colored Columbia 11s. I had the 2001 retro, and it was 👌.
Great overview! After the initial excitement of receiving them, the details start to show; that thin PL, the hump and creasing in the toe, the pressed checker oattern on the CF plate with the misaligned dots that should've been a checker oattern, definitely that heel leather feels not tough, and the bumpiness of the PL plus discovering glue blemishes on areas. The souble trademark while a minor overlook is still something desired. The color tone of the clear outsole was one thing I liked, but lack of flair plus all the other factors missed at that cost which slightly increased left a feeling that the shoe's value did not match it. Thanks for bringing back the guitar riff in this one!
@efernandez2 i agree, it's a clean sneaker from the first impression. When you start to look closer at details, the right stuff just isn't there lol.. happy to add the classic comparison riff back once again, been a minute! 🙌🏻🤘🏻
Great video! I 100 percent agree with you on the materials and how much they cost! The main problem for me is the thin cut patent leather! Im afraid by the time they get it right they’re going to cost 300 if not more!
@@jimmyschlenk9502 very much, im equally if not more disappointed in the upper leather used. Really feels cheap like the 2012 white cement 4, not good!
Great review as always. I will note some of the thing that are changed from the OG are improvements in my book. As far as materials I think that’s on a shoe by shoe basis, which is sad. For $230 a pair you would think Nike could keep the quality consistent.
@tha9thwonder totally, we should see more consistency. I get the inflation of price over time it's about even but the quality for same price isn't there
@@ogorbust1697That’s not entirely true. I have a deadstock pair of playoffs (Taiwan) and the PL cut is almost identical to the retros. I just think the OG pairs were all over the place. But they were never as low as the 2008-2015 junk.
@@ogorbust1697 they feel excellent imo. i tie my shoes up properly so the fit and support is as stated, excellent! haha. the polyurathane insole really helps with step in comfort.
I agree with you- the original patent leather cut looks the best- the patent leather cut is too high on the 2024 version and combined with the shape it gives the shoe a swollen look.
Was looking forward to these all year until I started seeing the material quality. I’ll pick up a barely worn used pair sometime next year for like 170. Not paying retail for this
@Tha4704 nope, anything that oxidizes really.. like vintage guitars when the lacquer yellows around binding. That for example is also a natural patina.
I work in aviation and see a lot of carbon fiber. Carbon fiber tech IDs probably the tech that has advanced the most in the past 30 years and might be the most difficult to get exactly like the OG's... but it looks like they barely tried! I will say the texture/bumps/dips seen in the 2024 retro stuff is an artifact from the curing process of the carbon fiber. Kinda sad the Jumpman embroidered OG ankke don't have the ol' Jumpman Buttcrack. Guess they had refined the embroidery pattern by 95/96 🤷♂️
Higher cut on the patent leather is wayyy better for the 11s the leather on the upper is a little tough fresh outta the box..if you wear your shoes the leather will loosen up That’s straight common since. Great compression for sure ! Some other OG collectors don’t know what they talking about
@Ryanj2050 leather grain definitely will loosen with wear. But as ds example shown it was factory fresh thick cut. Didn't change that significantly when you look at my worn pair too. Heel a bit wider with wear for sure though on my og worn
i think they absolutely killed the shape for this shoe, but quality and materials does not reflect price point at all. will happily cop on the used/resale market once prices drop
@ogorbust1697 wish I could show you a pic. Not the leather upper, the shiny part above the sole. I let a buddy hoop in them after HS and he kinda junked them. I always kept them in the closet and over time they have turned pink. Lol
The problem with 11s now is that jb is making too much lol, so the quality def isn’t gonna be the same. I doubt they released 1 million pairs of 2016 space jams or 2018 concords.
@Panama00807 I'm not too sure on the numbers but I wouldn't think they'd be that far off. It's not the quality control that I see on this release but more so the materials used.
@Tha4704 i definitely prefer and wanted to see thicker cut patent. They can do it and did like the playoff '95 example i showed. Especially with price increases continuing, we should see that quality and thickness
Patent leather on these is horrible Soft asf they even fit different from my 2019 breds both size 11s breds is way tighter but this 2024 11s feel already broken in or mabye i just have to get use to them and break them in because i don't think i need 10.5 my toes is a already at top but these just creasing way to easy 🤦🏾♂️ dont want buy same shoe different size again i guess im stuck with size 11
