This was a nice little hike through the forest and to see what we could find left over from the operation. Not much is left but was a nice little stop except the mosquitoes. They were brutal at times haha. Hopefully you enjoyed the walk through this lesser known and visited area in Jasper.
What a great channel!! Glad I found it! Great walks. Jasper is a beautiful place in Alberta. I miss seeing it. This walk is nostalgic. Thank you for doing this walk Wade. Great channel my friend.
Mining has been a major part of our ancestry. My grandfather, the kid's great grandfather, moved to Milwaukee from the mining town of Virginia, Minnesota. My wife comes from one of the coal mining capitals of the world, West Virginia. It is such a woven thread into the history of the place, and is part of the story of what that state is going through right now. Your story reflects so much. - Daddy
Thanks for sharing those details. Many towns here only existed because of the coal industry and lots of towns have suffered since their decline and many disappeared. Take care! Happy holidays!
Amazing how nature takes back over. Hard to imagine how bustling it used to be when only the foundations really remain. I like old abandoned places like that too so you’re not alone on that.
Very interesting tour my friend. Thanks for the wonderful information and footage of this beautiful place. A delight to watch Wade. Enjoyed once again Irene.🌳💚
The pines and the moss on the concrete was awesome. Those mountains in the clearing were sweet to. 3:40 I thought it was a sasquatch sign at first lol.
Glad you enjoyed it! Nice atmosphere in the forest. Beautiful area there. Haha that would be funny a sasquatch sign. Could be a good place for him to hang out. 👍😀
Great Vlog, Thanks for introducing us to Pocahontas, the old biulding speak to the work and effort of a group of miners. What a great project to record the past, thanks
Thanks for the virtual tour (mosquito free). Great hike and awesome images... 09:48 OMG look at the mountains!!! I'd looooove to fly my drone there. Subbed!
Glad you enjoyed it! Yes mountains all around there but unfortunately for flying a drone they are banned in the national parks and there are heavy fines. Thanks for watching. Have a great day.
Great video exploring this amazing old Ghost Town and Coal mining place Wade. Thank you for the history and the tour. Thoroughly enjoyed this video. 🙏🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Glad you enjoyed it! I love finding all these historical places and sharing them. I am always on the hunt for some lesser known places. Thanks again. 😀👍
Thanks so much for the great video. It holds special interest to me as my Father was born there, his Uncle was killed in the mine, and my parents Honeymooned on a trip in 1947. My Mother says I was conceived somewhere in the area. Coincidently, I knew a guy who was born in the other Pocahontas. My Mother said they found the grave of his Uncle, as they put bars around the graves to prevent the bears from digging up the bodies. My Grandparents came from Scotland and he was a butcher in the company store. I don't know how many kids were born there, but I imagine not a lot. When the mine closed they moved the buildings on railcars, so the only places left are the foundations and concrete structures.
Thanks for checking it out! I am glad you enjoyed. These places are so interesting to me and I love hearing stories around them. Thanks for sharing your story I really appreciate that. Very interesting. 😀👍
Hello~ Nice to meet you. Tha places in the video are dreary. but the path is very beautiful. 4:22 The white marks on the old building's walls are eerie. I watched this video to end with interest. I gave you my full support. Let's stay connected for more interesting contents. Have a good day my new friend~
Yes it was a beautiful place to hike and search for left over ruins of the mine site. Thank you for the support I appreciate that. Have a great day. 😀👍
Neat history! It wasn't what I was expecting, but super neat. There are many places with the park (like this) that I can't imagine too many people take the time to visit. Glad you have taken the time to explore and shar it with us.

Awesome seeing these old structures and ruins. Plus with them being in a national Park they are less likely to become vandalized. Pretty neat. Take care.
Thanks for watching! Yea the mosquitos were the worst ever haha. Very interesting for sure. I like walking around these abandoned locations and the history. Take care. 👍
Glad you enjoyed it! It was a nice walk through the forest with nice surroundings. Besides the mosquitos it was great. I like finding these often overlooked locations. 👍
Wonderful - very interesting. I didn't know there used to be mining up there. Good catch. Many great fell-framed scenes. Well done, my friend 👍. Thanks for sharing and enjoy your day 😀.
Many thanks! A mostly overlooked spot I would imagine since there is so much to see in the area. I like trying to find these lesser known places. Have a great weekend. 😀👍
Many thanks! Yes when given the chance nature reclaims its territory very quickly. It also helped that most of these places were salvaged and cleaned up so there wasn't much left. 😀
The places where they were dedicated to mining have great stories, great working people inhabit. The coal mines one of the most suffered for the worker. Very good historical video friend. Beautiful place.
Yes coal miners had some of the worst working conditions. I am glad there are some spots where they preserved some of the history to remember it. I enjoyed this little stop. Thanks for watching! 😀

Wow we have been to Jasper so many times and never knew this place even existed! Thanks for sharing another cool spot in Alberta's History. We might have to add this one to the list of cool places to go see!
I make a good effort to find some of the lesser known and travelled places now when I can and I love the history from back in those times that helped make Canada what it is today. It is worth the quick stop. The area seems like it is not being maintained so much anymore. They used to keep information pamphlets there to explain more of the history and the locations along the trail but apparently they haven't been restocked for years. A bit sad it is not being cared for much anymore.
@@ExploringwithWade It seems like a lot of places that contain important parts of our history are not being taken care of and slowly fading away. We think the best part of exploring is doing your research and finding those hidden gems and when you do it is so much more rewarding.
Awesome explore Wade. Loved learning the history of this place. Fun fact - When I lived in VA I lived in a town called Powhatan. Chief Powhatan was Pocahontas's father. 👍 ~ Kristine
Its so weird to see a place deserted when it would have been the centre of peoples lives. we had the decline of the coal mines in uk too and whole communities became unemployed. hard times. Thanks for sharing!
Abandoned places fascinate me. I always try and picture what it was like back when people were there and it was bustling and the mystery of what it was like. Hard times for sure. Thanks for watching! 👍
I have never heard of this before! Now I want to go!! I wonder if my kids would be able to handle the hike though?? Might have to wait until they are a touch older. Cool video!
Thank you! Most I talk to have never heard of it. I like this kinda stuff and history so I try and find the lesser known places in my travels also. The lower hike is very short and easy. Just lots of mosquitoes is the only negative haha.
Great exploration and excellent narration, Wade. I love the old mine shaft. It is great that these remains are still preserved and accessible. It is also great to see that nature already claimed almost everything of its territory back in such a short time period. I love such abandoned places full of history and still out in the wild. Thanks for sharing this beautiful and very interesting hike. 👍👌👏
Many thanks! Most of these sites when they closed down were salvaged and dismantled so there isn't much left but being able to see a few things left and they made a little hike in the area is nice to see. It doesn't take long for nature to reclaim. Finding these places are very interesting to me. Love the mystery and history. Have a great week. 😀👍
So this is the place based on the cartoon Disney used to make Pocahontas. This place reminds me so much of the cartoon and the recently released movie :)
Yes love the history and the setting and atmosphere of the forest and nature. The actual mines are almost always sealed in with no chance of access anymore for safety. Usually all that is left behind is just a few structures or foundations. They do a good job salvaging and repurposing the materials and buildings to other locations and cleaning up. That is why we see very little left. There are a few mines around where they give tours into the actual mines still. Thanks for watching. Have a great day. 😀

With how it was built and the heavy built door yes most likely that is what it was for. There is so much remnants all scattered through the hills and usually in a lot of these places everything was salvaged and dismantled very well and mines completely sealed in. With a lot of hunting and research you could probably find the location of the original mine entrance but there wouldn't be anything visible most likely.
