Unforgiven 1: a damn classic, beautiful and powerful metal ballad with a great guitar solo full of passion. Unforgiven 2. a simple slow tempo ballad with a short yet cool solo. Unforgiven 3 : the most complex one, dark with and with a kick @ss in your face solo. Epic stuff.
I think they're all great. 1 & 2 use the same chords, with a different feel and a variation on the theme. 1 has a loud verse, quiet chorus, 2 is quiet verse, loud chorus. 3 has completely different chords but shares the loud verse, quiet chorus of 1. All the solos are great for different reasons too. 1 is well measured and thought that peaks nicely with the song itself. 2, is a lot simpler but is full of more raw passion. 3 is just nuts, combining the passion of 2 with a similar to peak as 1. They're great songs and considering what the band and Hetfield in particular have been through, even more touching.
You don't hear Unforgiven 3 as much as the other two and I forget how kick ass that song is. The unforgiven trilogy is some of their best work spanning decades of different sounds.
The Unforgiven trilogy is a travel inside the soul and demons of James. Can't understand why so many "trve fans" hate these songs... they don't understand the deep meaning of these songs, and probably the pain and the suffering of James writing down these lyrics? Metallica is not only "seek, destroy, battery, damage"... is also this... they started with Fade to Black to going down in the darkness of the spirit, and never ended. Unforgiven III is a scream in the night. Best lyrics ever.
James has written several pieces of music directed at his tumultious upbringing. Songs like Mama Said, Until It Sleeps and Dyer's Eve are great windows into his past and into his head and ultimately into our soles. Beautiful music can come from anywhere.
Also Bleeding me... He said in an older interview that whenever they perform that song he can safely weep. It is truly one of the masterpieces of the Load/ReLoad era IMO
To me, Unforgiven is the 3rd best song Metallica ever wrote, behind MoP and One. I've seen it live and cried both times, and I get emotional everytime I hear it. Metallica will never please everyone, but they deserve respect for not fooling their fans, they always put out something they believe in, even if it gets backlash or not, if it means more bluesy music or a collab with Lou Reed. They will always be my favorite band
Unforgiven trilogy is a lot to take in all at once for sure! Us mortals had to wait 17 years for all 3 songs!!! And then put into context how big Metallica are... They were playing 10 years previously before that and have been playing another 12 years and going after the last one!

Every time I hear these It reminds me how bloody incredible Metallica's post thrash stuff actually is. I can't possibly say that ride and mop aren't by far their best stuff in my opinion, but it really is no wonder they are the most successful metal band ever is it... Their talents span genres and kick f'in ass.
With both parents dipping on me before even turning 18 I can ever so much say these songs are beautiful despite production and genre. Lyrically they’re all a bitter-sweet emotional expression. Metallica fan for life. P.S if you want more Metallica take a listen to some of these underrated songs: (and ANY song of of their first five albums) - The Outlaw Torn - My Friend of Misery - Disposable Heroes - Trapped Under Ice - No Remorse
Disturbed and metallica are the best. I know way too many people who have not actually listened to disturbed from album one to present, and if you do I guarantee if you ACTUALLY pay attention and LISTEN you'll be hooked for life. Such an AMAZING band, DAMN underrated. They should have a legacy the same size or even bigger than metallica at this point, both have created the worlds greatest tunes, Dave's voice is phenomenal.
The Unforgiven III is far from their best song but the lyrics are incredibly deep. Especially the chorus "How can I be lost when I've got nowhere to go Search for seas of gold How come its got so cold How can I be lost, in remembrance I relive And how can I blame you when its me I cant forgive" That's deep.
God. Unforgiven II really gets me. Every fucking time.

Here in the Philippines 🇵🇭 metallica is the god of heavy metal no other foreign metal band can surpass their popularity here
With both parents dipping on me before even turning 18 I can ever so much say these songs are beautiful despite production and genre. Lyrically they’re all a bitter-sweet emotional expression. Metallica fan for life.
P.S if you want more Metallica take a listen to some of these underrated songs:
(and ANY song of of their first five albums)
- The Outlaw Torn
- My Friend of Misery
- Disposable Heroes
- Trapped Under Ice
- No Remorse
it looks like he is shaking his head thinking "why the fuck did i never hear this?"
#3 wow man that's a filthy guitar solo. Sic
React to Shortest Straw man, the pure aggression of it will stop the fuzzy feeling
Metallica "That was just your life". Great newer song. Still waiting for moth into flame ;)
😜😂
Super job
It's funny. I and II sound more alike then III does to either I or II. Two is my favorite, third my least.
Great reaction!!!!! You are a Metallica boy now Dave!!!!!!🤣🤣🤘🤘❤❤
Unforgiven 3 will punch you right in the soul!
That’s for sure 🤘🏻
Disturbed and metallica are the best. I know way too many people who have not actually listened to disturbed from album one to present, and if you do I guarantee if you ACTUALLY pay attention and LISTEN you'll be hooked for life. Such an AMAZING band, DAMN underrated. They should have a legacy the same size or even bigger than metallica at this point, both have created the worlds greatest tunes, Dave's voice is phenomenal.
KEEP ROCKIN DAVE!
The Unforgiven III is far from their best song but the lyrics are incredibly deep. Especially the chorus
"How can I be lost when I've got nowhere to go
Search for seas of gold
How come its got so cold
How can I be lost, in remembrance I relive
And how can I blame you when its me I cant forgive"
That's deep.
I haven't even heard the 3rd one till now I was always a fan of 1 and 2
People are a big fan if Metallica maturing ... they want the 20 year Olds forever
