Do you think the preflop adjustment to play tighter vs maniac applies to defending the BB? Like say they open wider, it increases the equity of more holding for us, and wed be getting good odds to defend. But if they overaggress, it might make it hard to realize that equity. But we can also station more. Im wondering if closing the action we want to tighten up, or if it only applies to if we are opening the action?
The key is to understand that overaggression can in fact decrease the EV of many hands in your range. It still generates EV for you as a whole if you can exploit it, but most of the time its your good hands that capture that extra EV, not the weak ones. That said it is possible for a weak hand to overrealize equity against hyper aggression. It just needs to be so much aggression that opponent will be hopeless against counter attacks. If someone 3bets any 2 cards against you and only calls top 10% vs all in, you should definitely not tighten up, on the contrary - many auto fold hands will become pure opens just so you can put a 4bet all in shove and get that 90% fold equity. A postflop analogy would be someone that cbets every single board 100% of the time but then folds 75% to check-raise. You should overcall preflop against this player, not overfold You'll pretty much never encounter this level of absurd aggression though. Most aggressive players won't be aggressive enough to the point that they're generating any value to your weakest hands
I think you mention stuff that I have asked myself many times. I Know that you are a Cash player but could you try answer this please? Lets suppose Bu opens and we are in the bb with 20bb. Suppose that against a regular we should jam Q9s because he will fold QJo QTo and when he calls we are still doing ok. Suppose that if the Bu is a regular he is gonna call us with a range of 20% of hands. Imagine he was a fish and he would call our rejam with 40% range. Would it be more or less profitable then to jam Q9s??? We have more equity when called, but we steal the blinds less often. How could I think about this intuitively without holdem resources or a program like that? Thanks very much Saulo.

Thanks bro! Yeah I think anything above the stats you mentioned should be considered on the aggro side. But even then there will be multiple levels of aggression. A 40/35/40 player is very different from a 45/40/45. It doesn't have to be a positive redline player for these adjustments to be correct. They could have very high aggression frequencies and still have a losing redline.

Yeah, he was likely trying to exploit what he perceived as a very capped weak range. Together with his image he was looking to get hero'ed by A highs. That's just my assumption anyways, but can't see many other possibilities

15:20 and 15:53 - these are not correct examples. Stefan was value betting the river in both scenarios. It's not that easy to play against aggros, cause good aggressive players know that they get much more loose calls and they bet for value wider.

If you share for example 3 exploits vs. passive players for free, in your staking group, you have much more, like 15 exploits? In other words, if you share 10% of your knowledge for free, it could mean that your cfp members are equipped with an extra 90% of knowledge? So myself who only watch your free videos, have no chance to win vs. ur average students? Because he has more knowledge available through your company. I make videos without holding any information. I believe that's the best way to grow an audience - generating genuine value to other people. But of course, I can only touch on complex topics superficially in 15 minute videos. Even this video, as good as it may be, can't be a complete description of how to play agaisnt aggressive players. The game is too big. So the main difference to my students would be that they get classes frequently with me, get to ask me questions in private, get my feedback to their hand histories, get my trained eyes to look for leaks and their stats. It's totally different to watch a video from someone and then talk to them every week about your game
I mean, the aggressive player only plays like that because he thinks he is the one doing the exploiting 😁 poker is a game of continuous adjustments. Your job is to always stay one step ahead, and be the one doing the exploiting instead of the one getting exploited. In that context, surely you can't expect an exploit to last forever. You gotta prepare for your opponent's adjustments vs you and anticipate their next move. Playing exploitative is hard 😅
My brain can't comprehend your level #2 exploit. Isn't only response to aggression, aggression back ? If BB over-bluff 3-bets with of-suited sector that means best exploit back is to vpip more(4-bet, call) and not tighten up preflop range because of that.
When your opponent is too aggressive with some middle range hand or trash hand, your value hand like AA KK QQ has way more EV than what GTO suggests. Middle range hand like 77,88,99, KTs You are running a flip against your opponent most of the time. And it’s hard to defend when the board does not hit. If your opponent do not know you tighten up your range(reducing Vpip), you can always wait for a big hand and let them fire.
watching this made me realise live poker will always be king, sad peopllle cant use there own brains they need solvers and hand histories of players to then adjust accordingly its just legal cheating takes alot of the skill out the game
Unfortunate you think in this way. I think using the tools requires a lot of studying and thinking, it probably makes the game even more challenging intellectually compared to not using them
