My suggestion for another Battle of the Dans would be this little-known game that I think would be right up your alley, called Rounds. It might even be good enough to showcase multiple times in one event, maybe even three times in succession. In fact, I could see an entire Battle of the Dans revolving around that game specifically
I would like to congratulate Dan on winning this year's Battle of the Dans. Dan did well to get second place, and combustion commiseration to Dan in getting third place.

Okay! Thoughts brewing over here about the Banjo FromSoft game idea:
- The car from Nuts & Bolts is the "Torrent" of the game, and it can double-jump using hydraulic bouncing.
- The "Souls/Runes" equivalent would be any of the major collectibles (honeycombs, feathers, etc.).
- One of the NPC's, maybe Mumbo or Bottles, could teach you swappable Ash of War style combo moves with different affinities to them.
- You gain a block of cheese item that can help "cheese" any particular bosses or areas you're having difficulty with.
- You have a secret unlockable farmland area full of easy enemies that you can get a whole lot of easy Runes from (ie. an ideal 'rune farming' location).

You know when you have a dm who has prepared a very serious, long form narrative, gritty campaign, and the party buys into the narrative and follows the plot but cannot keep a straight face for even a single minute? That's the tone I imagine for the Elden Jiggy. A very delicate balance mind you, but hilarious if you strike it.
Carrie, remind the Dans to give you cookies and coffee next year! … Oh, you meant to remind you later? My bad.
I'd be happy with Weekly Rounds for a long time. Maybe after like a year of weekly Rounds I may feel like mixing it up, but I honestly think that you could play that game for a long time without it getting boring.
For next year’s Battle of the Dans, I would recommend Boomerang Fu. It’s similar to Rounds but power-ups spawn around the map, you don’t know what you’re gonna get before you collect the power-up however. You also can only have three at a time which could lead to strategic gambling that ends in total success or complete failure. Plus, you play as cute little food guys and can make them wear little hats. It’s available on most consoles and on Steam. Me and my sisters love this game and I definitely think you guys will love it too.

PSA: for all, but especially for the males here: Sleep Apnea is more common than you think. The number i was quoted (almost a decade ago when I got my diagnosis) was 1 in 3 men have some apnea. It also increases your chance of death by like 34%. Snoring is an indicator but you have an apnea without it. So if you can, get a sleep study if you are diagnosed, use the machine. Your brain, body, friends and family will thank you.
It will feel like a cheat code once you use it.
I've been thinking for a while that I would love to see a multi-Dan Terraria run - if only for the moment where Dan Prime logs in and Jones greets him with "So, Emmons and I had some spare time, so we thought we'd do some stuff between episodes" and Emmons has built these elaborate houses, while Jones has laid down a gauntlet of traps, or built a death arena for the tower defense minigame... It's not really Battle of the Dans but it's an opportunity for some chill hanging out in a game that's a lot easier to spectate than Minecraft because the side-on 2D gives you a much better view of what's happening...
On a separate note, I find myself doing a lot of teaching boardgames nowadays, and, because I'm generally trying to keep tabs on every single piece of the gamestate to make sure the rules are being followed, I'm not making the best strategic choices for myself, and often see the new guy winning...
I love how the music dropped out when Emmons discovered the (alleged) amogus
EDIT: the whole conversation at 53:40 and the surrounds is so real. Even as a hobbyist, yknow, it's that thing where you put together a GDD, and even that much is a thrill. Like "ooh, this mechanic is gonna reinforce this bit of the story, and interact with this other mechanic in this way or that," and then you open up your editor and make even a *part* of it, and it's the most beautiful feeling
I think this is the most I've heard Emmons talk. Love the discourse with all the Dans. I think my top 3 for Battle of the Dans were Party Animals, Worms W.N.D., and Rounds. I swear your Party Animals bit is getting me through grad school.
Speaking of WotC, I remember running FNM for MtG at the local game shop WAY back in the day. Man that was a crowd. I can commiserate with Emmons a bit, hehe.

When Dan Floyd mentioned that there are some jobs in game development that are harder to share your specific contribution, it kind of reminded me of a sort of rule/tidbit about audio engineering specifically in a live-setting which is that: if nobody notices that you are doing your job, you're doing it correctly causethe point of the job is to make the sound good and clear. I think that kind of applies a bit to the positions he was mentioning. I also would think that trying to explain how one set up some sub-function or sub-routine in the code that allowed, for example, the skins to fit correctly in the engine or something

Because board games where mentioned a bit in this episode there's one thing when it comes to teaching them that i think is often overlooked and that is playing a mock round with open information. So rather than everyone keeping their cards literally close to their chest, leaving them open for everyone to see and ask questions if they have any and where you're not playing to win, but to help inform the new players of what's going through an experienced players mind as they look at the various pieces of information that's available to them.
This is in my estimation a much better way of catching new players up to speed in terms of where they should put their focus and priorities and how the decision making process in the given game tends to go rather than getting caught up in the minor details that are only relevant for skilled players looking to optimize their play by a few extra percent. Which is what most experts tend to focus on as that is what's most relevant to them when they're playing.
If anything, I think being the least experienced player in a friend group is really what builds that "play for fun, not winning" mindset. As a Nintendo kid whose main FPS experience was playing through the occasional single player campaign, I was always last place whenever I hung out with friends and played games like Halo. Its not like I didn't have any fun, but Halo with the gang was pretty low on my list of things I'd actually want to do if given the choice and there were absolutely moments where I secretly gave up on enjoying myself.
It was that experience as a kid of going into a game knowing that I'd have the lowest kill count and the highest death count no matter how hard I tried that taught adult me that sometimes the best way to play with newer players or a friend's kid is to take things easy and have fun by messing around instead of stomping them into the ground to show my gaming superiority.

I too am sleep sensitive, but can't stand the eye mask. Look into blackout curtains and there're light-covering dots(or black gaffer tape) to cover all the damn lights every electronics have.

Elden Jiggy should definitely be on the Banjo style but have a lot of the challenge of a souls game. Aside from another crab's treasure, not many games come to mind that fill the niche of brutal difficulty without the oppressive and dark atmosphere. Except there should be exactly one high rez realistic medieval knight character.

My brother curb-stomped me at every possible opportunity, and I just kind of had to eat it because the nearest kid our age was a mile up a windy country backroad with a bunch of blind curves, so I was basically a captive audience for him

Next battle of the Dans? More ROUNDS! That's the one that I think everyone wants more of. It's so amazing! One I've never really seen anyone do is Black and White: Bushido. It's a really unique and interesting game.

59:45 ah, yeah, after Shadow of the Erdtree, there were a few weapons I did NOT wanna stop using... The Needle, the Twin Swords, and some previous favorites of course. But yeah, I love certain weapons and attempt to branch out. I think my biggest issue with the DLC was needing to change my build (what weapons and infusions I used) to beat one or two specific bosses.
Otherwise, I love the DLC, the character quests are more convoluted than ever! I've literally failed at least one each time I NG+...
About Elden Jiggy.... Banjoo Kazooie are two Characters. You could have a similar mechanic, allowing the Player to switch between banjoo and the elden ring pc to overcome challenges. Mayhaps with some subtle tone shifts in the environment?

MHWorld on PC was my first time with the series and I could not manage using the controller to save my life. MHW has pretty good mouse & keyboard support though. I still haven't really played Elden Ring because their M&K controls are truly awful
Did they ever fix mouse having inverse acceleration? As in, basically the mouse is just mapped to a virtual gamepad stick?
I can't stand using controller for games where you're required to do some kind of weird claw grip in order to hold a run button while moving the camera at the same time. It just makes things feel so incredibly awkward. I'll always choose mouse and keyboard for a game like mouse and keyboard if given the option.
if yall want a suggestion for next battle of the Dans that is just absolute chaos, might i mention 100% Orange Juice. a quick synopsis would be it's sort of like if you put a light dokapon kingdom combat system into a Mario party/fortune street board, then added a bunch of abilities and powers to choose from as the game goes on. its a very random game, but one i have a lot of fun with.
Definitely keep some of the classics like Rounds and Mario for future Battle of the Dans.
Petition for a new channel: PlayFramePods - it's like PlayFrame, but the Dans (and any honorary Dans) just play chill games and shoot the shit. In podcast format style.
If you are willing to expand your idea of what Battle of the Dans is and invite other people in, the Jackbox series are great fun.
If we're talking suggestions for future battle of the Dans, I think Drink More Glurb is a really fun party and would be up your guys' alley. And if you want something really different from your usual then any of the Monster Prom games could work. Although a multi-player run can take a while.

So is the competition for this one how humble you each can be?
I wish I could be excited about souls-likes but I have tried some and don't feel like I would ever be good enough to finish any of them. I do wish they had difficulty settings so I could find the challenge level I would be comfortable with. It's why I prefer strategy rpg's like Baldur's Gate 3 which I will play on a hard setting along with games like The Outer Worlds.
The thing about Souls games is that the difficulty settings are hidden in the world. If you explore and experiment with the different tools at your disposal (or just look that info up online), you'll have a much easier time with those games. And if everything else fails, these games have built-in cheese strategies that are fun to discover (and too evident to not have been discovered during QA testing).
