  • Just moved across cities for the next step in my academic career: a postdoc research position at the University of Southampton. These first few days have been... complicated. I've faced some struggles with the property, and some self-inflicted ones. Nevertheless, I am doing my best to stay on the routine I know and love - tasty food, good mental health, good workouts, and consistent work.
    What do you think of the new place? I hope to make it a home over upcoming months. A place where I can truly feel at peace.
    This entry marks the start of a series in this channel: 20's Journal. This move has been a big page turn in my life, and I wish to share this story with you. I hope it helps you in your personal journey, too 🤍

    2:50 Oh my god! You will not believe it. I just got locked out of my apartment today because I went to help the delivery guy, and I am on the 6th floor, so climbing through the balcony door was a big NO. I was panicking because I shifted here 2 weeks ago, and my phone was also inside. So I went to my neighbor, hoping that they were home. I knocked, they opened the door, and I asked them if they happened to have the owner's phone number. Fortunately, they had, and I called her. I apologized for disturbing her on a workday, but she calmed me down and said, " Don't worry, I'll be there; she lives like 1.5 hrs away. I returned the phone to the neighbor, saying she was coming in an hour or so. I'll wait here on the stairs. She was so lovely she invited me in till the owner arrived. Finally, I am in my apartment, lying in my bed. When you are alone, things become more panicky.

      @@BrunoArcanjo Hi Bruno, it's totally fine and just take your time. Thanks for letting me know that you have started your postdoc.
      Massive congratulations again on submitting your PhD dissertation! I should comment this on your latest video tho. Well done! That was a big achievement 😊!
      Honestly, I could relate to your stories on so many levels when you talked about the 'division' between doing a PhD and now a postdoc. I completely feel the same!
      It is always nice to make use of your time to read, write, think and repeat in the beginning of your postdoc. I did the same too before executing the very first experiment in my postdoc (I'm an experimentalist). One good tip: while reading and summarising new keywords and concepts is that you may find out some important research gaps where you can try to answer them during your postdoc and all of those reading periods will strongly shape your fundamental knowledge on the new topic. For me, I even turned all of my notes into a contemporary review and managed to publish it. So, it's indeed worthwhile and such a great time investment for you now and in the long run 😊.
      All the best wishes for your transition, enjoy it and be kind to yourself,
      Rocky

    So um tip para os teus lateral raises c/ halteres, em vez de dobrares os cotovelos e vires com os halteres na frente da bacia (retiras tenção do movimento), coloca o teu braço o mais esticado possivel para teres um braço de alavanaca maior e o exercicio ter maior recrutamento no deltoide lateral, e quando estiveres na fase inicial do movimento coloca os halteres ao lado da bacia! ;) de resto continua! ganhasta mais um sub! keep it up

    Happy to see you in a new video. How are you? Honestly, today's video is wonderful and simple, and your talking about your life in all sincerity without making anything beautiful makes us realize that we are all human beings who go through our progress and challenges. You have a special touch and talent for photography and sending a very special message to the viewer . Not everything changes one step at a time. Change one thing at a time. But don't focus on things. Set big, irrational goals. But they became simple and rational steps. Your skin looks tired, you should moisturize it well or use a serum that contains essential moisturizing ingredients, such as hyaluronic acid. I have some questions What type of oil do you use in cooking? Can I have your breakfast recipe? What app do you use to edit your videos? Thank you. good luck

    • @BrunoArcanjo
      @BrunoArcanjo  2 месяца назад +1

      Happy to see you here again! I am doing better now, these first few days have definitely been stressful, thus the tired skin you mentioned. I think I need some better sleep to get back to glowing skin territory ahahah. What about you, how are you? And absolutely, it's about taking it one step at a time, a bit everyday goes a long way. These videos are made that way, so is my thesis, and so will this become a homey place bit by bit.
      Regarding your questions:
      - I use olive oil but I use those sprays so I get a minimal amount of it. I prefer getting my fats from avocados and salmon
      - do you mean my pre-gym meal? (30g protein powder, 100g low fat greek yogurt, 20g raw cocoa powder, 40g oats, 40g wheat bites, 1 medium banana)
      - I use da Vinci resolve to edit my videos. The free version is very good but I do have the paid version as I edit 6k into 4k footage

      I mean lunch
      As for your skin, as you said, it is the result of anxiety and fatigue, and compensate for that with regular sleep, which is very important for the skin and of the body , as well as adequate hydration, which benefits you for glowing.
      I have another question if you don't mind
      How many meals do you eat a day?

    Also it maybe awkward, but can you answer the following questions 😅
    1) How do you ensure you have zero body hair,not even in your armpits 😮(sorry if I came of as creepy 😓)?
    2) What should a fat guy do to reduce weight and add on muscle (i.e cut on fat+ bulk on muscle)? Please share your thoughts 💭.

    • @BrunoArcanjo
      @BrunoArcanjo  Месяц назад +1

      Thank you for following for so long and many congrats on becoming a dental student (I am sure you'll get it!). It is indeed insane how time flies by, I feel so old already ahahahah. I really appreciate you enjoy the vlogs :)
      1) I trim often ahahah I have an electrical trimmer I use in the shower. My legs are quite hairy so I don't trim them often.
      2) Let me start by saying that I am not fitness qualified, I am not a personal trainer nor nutritonist, keep that in mind.
      The only way to lose fat is to be in a calorie deficit. There's no other way. If you're a newbie at the gym, you can EASILY put on muscle while on a slight calorie deficit, do not starve yourself or you won't gain muscle. This is called body recomp and is in my opinion the best way to go from overweight to muscular. Get yourself into a small calorie deficit via better food choices and some moderate cardio (walking helps A LOT) and weightlift - good form and progressive overload. Eat plenty of protein (1g protein per lb of body weight is more than enough).
      Hope this helps!

      @@BrunoArcanjo I am so glad you replied. I have a few more questions, please .
      When did you start going to the gym? How long before you actually saw results? Were you skinny before?
      I feel absolutely horrible going to the gym because there are literally so many people queuing at every piece of equipment . I feel terribly anxious and freaked out 😔. All of them know exactly what they're doing, I don't. On top of that I can hardly do anything correctly, I get so intimidated. So I just stopped going.
      I am sorry for dropping this on you randomly 😭 🙏🏻.
      Can you suggest a good workout routine for a beginner and a few good meals to get the daily protein requirement. How many eggs can I eat per day? Is whey protein after every workout effective? How should creatine be used?
      I am so sorry for wasting so much of your time but you seem so friendly, so I decided to gather courage and ask( Introvert me 😶‍🌫️🤡).
      Thank you so much for your advice. I know you are super busy but I hope you release weekly vlogs.

    • @BrunoArcanjo
      @BrunoArcanjo  Месяц назад +1

      @@youtubeuser1946 My pleasure to help.
      I have been going since I was a teenager, but I started taking it seriously from 2020. I was always super skinny and was very insecure about it, so I wanted to get some muscle on me.
      I understand the anxiety, especially when the gym is so full. I actually started going so early in the morning because I wanted an empty gym, is that an option to you? Also, believe me, most people also feel like that at the gym. Not everyone has it all figured out. I am still learning a lot, it's important to remember we all start somewhere and it's okay to not be the best at something. I would advise to start out with the machines as they lock you in position. You'll learn the movements before going to free weights. There's plenty of videos online showing how to use the most common machines: leg press, leg extension, chest press, shoulder press, rear delt, pec fly, horizontal row. If you get good at these machines, you will see gains and you will see results. Start with low weights, and climb bit by bit. No shame in lifting light but with good form.
      - Choose 2 machines you like per muscle (2 for chest, 2 for legs, 2 for shoulders, 2 for back)
      - do 3 sets of 15 reps on each per workout
      - go to the gym 3 times a week, leaving days in between. So, for example, Monday - Thursday - Sunday
      - on the days off, commit yourself to going for walks
      You're just beginning. Take it easy on your body and mind.
      Food is a much more touchy topic. I don't know what food you eat and what your body can take. You'll have to experiment with caloric intake. It's a bit too delicate for me to be able to help in a youtube comment, unfortunately

    • @youtubeuser1946

      Thank you sm. What about whey protein and creatinine? How many eggs should I normally per day?

    • @BrunoArcanjo
      @BrunoArcanjo  Месяц назад +1

      @@youtubeuser1946 Protein supplements only help if you're not getting enough protein in your diet. I eat some whey for breakfast with my yogurt because I LOVE the taste ahahahah Protein shakes after workouts are not necessary, you can have them if you like them but not required.
      Again, it depends. Eggs are quite caloric but have plenty of protein and other nutrients. Nutrition is complicated. The easiest way is to start working out properly, give it some weeks and if you're not losing any fat, eat a bit less and repeat the assessment
      Creatine, 5g per day everyday. Ideally with a meal
