FYI for others, here are the things you'll need: a size 20 star/Torx screw head for the door handle panel screw, the size 8mm bolt socket for the inside bolt connecting the door handle piece to the door, and the 7mm bolt socket for the secondary door panel. It'll save you a trip or two if you don't already own these tools. Thank you so much for this tutorial! You saved me a bunch!

First car repair I didn't just pay someone else to do, and it works great! Took me about 45 minutes. It looked simple and straightforward but I still procrastinated for 2 weeks. I was just nervous about messing something up. But everything works great! Thank you and everyone else who posts videos like these. I appreciate you.

This video gave me the confidence to give it a try instead of accepting the cost and inconvenience of visiting a dealership. Much easier than expected, saved me money, time. Once I removed the broken handle I could once again open the door by tugging on the wire while I wait for the replacement to be delivered. The video is absolutely spot on.

thanks for the video bro. I have a 2012 fusion that the handle just broke a few days ago. Not wanting to wait to fix because was worried about the lock not working when it should. so called dealer and made apt to get handle fixed. Was quoted over $200 to fix. after watching your video and seeing how easy it was to replace, I went on Amazon and found door handle along with door panel pry tool for under $30. took 2 days to receive and less than 45 min to put on. your video saved me over $175. thanks again! now just have to call dealership and cancel my apt. which still isn't for 3 days.

I also want to thank you for a very easy to follow and straight forward instructions. I bought the part months ago on Amazon and have procrastinated, using your by-pass trick an much easier then putting down the window. Finally went step by step with your video and no challenges. Getting that initial cap off was tricky since a screwdriver didn't work. I used a grooming finger nail file. I appreciate the pointer on where to start pulling the door panel as it came off easy as I went around. Great to get back to opening the door with one hand as it should be.

bobneub, man cannot thank you enough for this video. The wife just came home with this issue on our 2006 Fusion. I started the task but then in the same place as you started worrying about applying TO MUCH pressure and breaking more parts. Can in and looked and your video was there for me. I was in the other in about 2009 when the mirror got knocked off the door but had forgotten the magic to get in there. Thanks again one last time. Now I am anticipating the $$$ shock when I go order this part.

Thanks a million! I did it in on a 2010 Fusion in about 10 minutes and it only cost $18. It had been replaced before, as the screw cover was gouged and the door handle assembly itself was loose and barely hanging there. Strange that there is only 1 bolt and no tabs to keep it from swiveling. I made sure to get it tight. I didn't have to completely remove the panel or unhook any wires. Some people have said the dealer charged them over $200. Wow!

This was very helpful to replace my 2010 fusion model - it let me know exactly what to expect. It took me about 30 minutes total, from getting the tools to putting them away. Really great tutorial! I ended up needing a star-shaped head for 3 of the screws (one short in the door handle casing and two long in the door panel), a 7mm ratchet head for the window control casing, and an 8 mm ratchet head for the door handle bolt.

Excellent video! Showing the trick of opening the door with the lock was incredibly helpful while I waited for the part.
Your instructions were very easy to follow, and I just fixed it no problem.
I was able to complete the work without disconnecting any wires and would recommend that approach. The wires are long enough to rest the panel on the ground.
a set of "panel clip pliers" saved me a lot of frustration.
    Thanks a million!

Just did this, this morning. I have an '08 Ford Fusion. Luckily, I didn't have to take the door panel off, just loosen up the top right panel and pull it up through the gap I was able to make. +Tidyrious Alas...I wanted to pull mine up through a big gap, but 2 door panel clips fell off in the process...falling to the bottom of the inside of the door. Great video and well done. I followed this video and got my Ford Fusion 2009 driver side door lock fixed in 15 min.
I would like to simplify the procedure a little bit, since based on what I did with Fusion 2009, I don't think all these steps are required.
    a. I opened the 4 screws as described in the video.
    b. I lowered the driver side window glass so that the head can go through the window and I can peep into the door panel from the top. This is important.
    c. I only had to pry open the clips from the top left, top center and top right corner of the panel. Didn't need to take the whole door panel off. That gap was enough to put my hand in from the top of the panel, take the lock off and put a new one.
    d. I didn't need to take the power window roll-up/roll-down control panel off, since I wasn't taking off the whole panel.
On a side note, I used the lock "Dorman 81702 6E5Z 5422601-A" and Pry tools (Kinglake Item: B00HNMLQAG) from Amazon.com. Screws were pretty easy to open.

This was a big help! Your instructions worked on my 2007 Lincoln MKZ. When removing my door panel, I started on the bottom retaining clips and it made the top ones easier to get to.

Great video, I used the temporary open trick until part got here. It took less than 10 minutes to change. I only took off plastic around broken handle and then took out handle bolt, bolt on side of door and then popped out top of panel enough to get old part out. Connected the new handle and bolted then popped door panel top on, then put 2 screws back in. Done under 10 min.

Got my inside driver door handle for my 07 Fusion from Rock Auto Parts for $30-$32. Put it on myself in about 15 minutes. The guy in the video unplugged the wires that control the windows from the door panel unit that he removed. You don't have to do that. You do have to remove the window panel control, but then just gently lower the door panel enough so you can get to the job. You're not working on the power window unit, you just want to get to the door handle. This job is easier than changing a tire! I too ended up with an extra washer....LOL

My 2011 fusion broke the handle around 70,000 miles I work for ford so I bought all four interior door handles with my discount and just replaced them all in one shot in 20 minutes. Finally on the 2013 body style they changed the interior door handles and I'm happy to say that they are actually made well this time.
