I thought the same thing. It seems that she really meant that line. I love that they followed it with the clip. It was so obvious that Rae Dawn Chong hated that she was the perceived "star" at the time yet it didn't happen for her. Oprah's career on the other hand.....
I think Im in love with the actress who played young Nettie. Akosua Busia is her name I think. One of the most beautiful women I have ever seen. Ghana representing right there!
There were so many "favorite" lines in The Color Purple..but one of my favorite lines were "I done fixed my mailbox so I can tell if it's been messed with..YOU UNDERSTAND??!!!" The "IZ MARRIED NOW" is another one!!
lol, Rae Dawn Chong, gee she must just be seething with jealousy over Oprah, glad that Winfrey came back with, "It was my favorite scene to punch you out!" -
I'm sitting here trying to think of my favorite line and by the time I finished picking my favorite line. I had picked a line from each scene ,I guess the whole show was my favorite line.
Its really a SHAME this movie didn't get an Oscar. This has to be THE BEST I've seen from Whoopi out of all the movies she played in. She should have won best actress and this should have been Best movie back then. An absolute classic that never gets old. It makes you laugh and cry. I have yet to see a drama as good as the Color Purple.
That'd be something. But this time it starts at the year it left on. 1936 and it goes on like 30 or 35 years later when Celie's kids have kids of their own and how everything changes around them. Especially in the south during the 40s 50s and 60s and early 70s.
I bet Oprah's favorite line is: You told Harpo to beat me! When I was a little girl I'd to learn how to fight my brothers, my uncles but I'd never thought I would have to fight in my own home.
@@nottoomuch87 Rae has delivered alot of back handed compliments about Oprah. Oprah actually had Rae on her show here but there were no issues of course while on camera, but according to Rae it's behind the scenes with Oprah that they have their issues.
@@nicholasjanke3476 I get that but how is this a fued? For it to be a feud, two people have to engage back and forth. Oprah does not engage this woman, ever. I don't think she cares for her in the least, but she's not feuding with her.
@@nottoomuch87 I think rae Dawn Chong is probably jealous of Oprah, I mean Oprah is a house hold name but you mention the name Rae Dawn Chong to the average bloke on the street and he'd probably just look at you like: "who??" Oprah also had some issues with David Letterman but I was never really sure what it was about. She said she didn't like being on Letterman's show in 1989. I've never really understood why not, though I think she said it had something to do with a rowdy Chicago audience and the fact that she thought Letterman was egging the audience on. David Letterman used to make jokes about Oprah disliking him after that, but Oprah herself denies that she was ever really feuding with Letterman.
I think the big problem is both Oprah and Letterman have two vastly different interviewing talk show styles, which don't mesh. Oprah is a rather serious interviewer who makes only friendly kind of funny remarks, whereas Letterman makes all kinds of sarcastic remarks on his show and sometimes jumps around and one time even threw Mickey Mouse dolls at the camera crew! Can you imagine if Oprah did that? The guys in the white jackets would probably show up next! On the other hand it's very hard to picture David Letterman in a serious discussion with Chopra asking ph.d type questions like Oprah does. So yeah. I think Oprah didn't understand that Letterman's clownish talk show style, hence why she had issues with being on his show.
Rae was not being funny she didn't have a whole lot of lines in the movie so i can see why she said what she said. People are so closed minded or just like drama.
Shame whoop and Marg haven't worked together since but that's the sad reality when 2 black women play lovers they're rarely seen together ever again🤦🏿♀️
That shade from Oprah. Mines was "when I knock you out". LOL!
Zevil Gehannivani yes!!!! She threw that shade right back 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@Blessed Life Rae Dawn never liked Oprah and I don’t blame her

CP is one of the most Awesome movies Ever! Watched it on BET tonight and after all these years I know every line -- love it! =)
"Oh Miss Ceily, I'sa feels like singin'" -Sug Avery. Then she runs through a field of purple flowers. I love that line.
I think Im in love with the actress who played young Nettie. Akosua Busia is her name I think. One of the most beautiful women I have ever seen. Ghana representing right there!
i,m in love with the child celie
Mines was when Mrs. Milly asked Sophia did she want to be her maid, and Sophia said “HELL NAW”! 😂😂😂
WHEN THE LITTLE BOY SAID THAT ITS GOING TO RAIN ON YOUR HEAD... THAT WAS CUTE AND FUNNY.
There's a lot of lines I like in the movie. My favorite is "it's gon rain on yo head."
Oprah is so smart... She shut Ray dawn Chong down ... It was obvious she was throwing shade... What a bitter career less woman
Omg. It was all in fun. What a negative & bitter individual. "Career less woman????" Really???? It was a joke🤦🏾♀️
@@Thesunsreflection there’s context. Rae had some horrible things about Oprah.
Listen for yourself.

@ASAMOAH24 Yes. Akosua is one of the most beautiful women in the world!!! FLAWLESS. She just gets better with age.

I Would Love A Sequel To The Color Purple

nettie is gorgeous
no the child celie is gorgeous
That was an amazing moment!

"You told Harpo to beat me"!
from the first time i saw this interview i remember saying oprah and rae dawn chong dont seem like they like each other. lol wow i was right
Rae Dawn Chong spent years publicly insulting OW's complexion and weight after the movie. She was extremely jealous OWs success.
Ask me Oprah felt some type of way if that's the case.
Oprah and Rae Dawn Chong have had an ongoing feud for years.
No, Rae has had a feud with Oprah. Oprah never mentions that woman.

WOW! After I saw that "field n*&^%$" comment, I came right here to prove that SAME theory!
They Should Make The Color Purple 2
where do I go to see the full episode
I watch tht movie everyday. I get on my girlfriends nerves I watch it so much.lol
So I'm guessing the 1st actress the showed either played young Nettie or young Celie. Someone please help me out
Oprah does not like that woman. She said hello, what's your favorite line in the movie? She said everybody else's name lol.
The shade was real
Bossip brought me here!
It's too bad they didn't have the director Steven Spielberg there..
What, was this recorder off the TV in 2010?
Oh....wait...
Rae was not being funny she didn't have a whole lot of lines in the movie so i can see why she said what she said. People are so closed minded or just like drama.
Bridgett Brooks but they really don't like each other
Rae Dawn Chong looking like a whole snack

Thank God it's different for taraji and Tasia
yeah but Ghandhi won instead and that movie was epic too that year
Out of Africa won that year. Ghandi won for 1982, beating E.T.
