It's official! I received a Firebox Stove and some couple extra goodies for Christmas! So excited to get out, explore my state, and have a blast with my new outdoor stove! Much love from Atlanta and Happy New Year!
That is so great to hear, let me know what you think about your first burn. Have fun out there and thank you for the support!! Happy New Year to you as well.
Off subject but my granddaughter and I did the initial burn on my new 5 inch. Hot dogs had to do for a New Year's day luncheon. Great fun, she ate two. I've been telling people about your channel, clean family friendly, fishing, and cooking. One couple stopped to look it up before leaving our store.
That is awesome, thank you so much for your support and word of mouth. Means a lot to me. I am glad that you and your granddaughter could enjoy a lunch of hot dogs, making those memories is the best thing to do. Have fun out there with your stove, Cheers!
Since the temp has dropped, here in the south, I've been camping quite frequently. Your Firebox Nano is unparalleled, in my humble opinion. It's compatibility, it's use of fuel/wood, and the durability is second to none. Thanks for your contributions to the camping/hiking community, Steve. P.S. Hoping the best for you and your family in 2020.
Thank you for the kind words, I really appreciate that. Glad you have been out enjoying your Nano stove and making great food and memories. Have fun out there and Happy New Year to you and your family as well. Cheers my friend!
Lovin' all the innovations with the camping/cooking gear. Thank you for honest/heads-up testing. Nice to see how the new stuff compares to the tried/true.
I bought a full size Firebox to accompany my Trangia for fuel-flexibility and cooking options. I liked the combo so much that I gave it to my girlfriend and bought a second one for myself. I can't wait to use the cooking pot (also bought for Christmas) to try and do a roast chicken in a few weeks.
Nice! I hope it turns out great and you have a great time doing it! My tip for cooking most anything outdoors is air on the side of lower heat rather than risk burning. Take your time and enjoy the process!.👍
That is great to hear, thank you for the feedback. It is a great little stove, especially for its size. I hope you get out many more times to use it and make great memories!
Don’t discount the fact that you can carry fuel in the trangia, and that it comes with a simmer ring. It is unmatched in the world of alcohol burners in terms of ease of use and convenience.
Yes, sometimes in winter I use the simmer ring under the metal plate I am eating off to keep my food warm while I eat. Plus they last forever and work every time. This test shows how well the Trangia design has held up. A drop or two difference in fuel would account for the difference in burn times. Here in Australia you aren’t allowed to burn solid fuel in most national parks so trangia is the way to go.
Yes, I agree a one (1) inch head space is far from optimal. Unused fuel can be reclaimed to burn again. I appreciate your videos and they verify my own results. Thank you!
Notice that when the outside temperature drops, as it usualy does this time of the year, titanium alcohol burners requires more effort to ignite and bloom than the Trangia, since titanium does not conduct heat very well. I seem to recall Hiram Cook did a few test on that with different titanium burners by Toaks, and that is also my experience when trying to use my Evernew burner vs the Trangia during winter.
Good comparison. I have tried different stoves, but seem to default to my Trangia. I like the fact that it can store fuel and has flame control via the lid. The small differences in boil time and burn time seem minor to me. Best wishes for a safe, healthy, and prosperous New Year to you and your awesome family!
Thanks, Steve. Good to know the Toaks fits and works so well in the Nano. The first time I went to use my Pathfinder spirit burner in the Nano (spoiler: it doesn't fit), I was cussing myself for not trying that combo before I went out. It was so close to fitting, though. I got a good laugh out of myself that day and learned a valuable lesson.
Super useful...was debating between a toaks and a trangia...this decided me, and thanks for the tips on how to use! It will work perfect inside my toaks woodstove.
@@fireboxstove Thanks. I have several different Trangia pot stands but I keep falling back to using my Nano - the other pot stands all have something which makes them less than optimal for the pots I use. The only (very minor) problem I've had with the Nano is that I had problems getting the valve of the off-brand Chinese gas burner (Bulin) through the feed ports - 30 seconds and some emery cloth fixed this problem.
Yes, the trangia represents the standard but I'll tell you what, that toaks siphonjet is somewhat of a breakthrough in my opinion. It's amazing how fast it blooms and how little fuel it uses to get my cuppa on 👍😎
I just transitioned from Trangia to Toaks because of weight and volume (I still appreciate the Trangia burner and kitchen very much). Now I know that the Toaks burner fits with the Firebox, which then will appear on my wish list.
Interesting gearing you mention its not recommended to let the Trangia run completely to the end of the fuel supply. I've not heard that before. Can it damage the burner? What would everyone recommend instead? Maybe capping it with a small amount of fuel still inside?
You nailed it. You want to put it out before it runs dry as the alcohol inside regulates the temperature of the stove itself if it's allowed to run dry it overheats which will eventually cause fracturing on the top lip.
Do people think the two toaks varied in burn time due to the oxygen supply difference between the two heights or due to the burn efficiency with the top of the flame on the higher height not being able to bloom properly? Im new to this stuff!
I use my nano with the trangia and olicamp mug. The set up has never failed me. When in the field prepping food a minute or 2 extra is not a bother! Overall, lightweight, durable, convenient. The 1 time I (stupidly!) knocked the trangia over and lost the meths, I simply got a few twigs and was good to go.
They can be but there are a lot of factors to consider therefore I recommend you consult the manufacturer to know which fuels and or other considerations they recommend.
I’m pretty sure Hiram cook did a video with the toaks and a simple wire stand and found the 1” headspace gave a faster boil than the original height of 1.5” between stovetop and stand. I assumed that would translate to the Nano but your video suggests otherwise. Good to know! Now I need to test it out for myself.
The Toaks burner is used mostly for the Nano unless you HAD to use it for the 5" Firebox and you would want to use the Adjustable Fire Grate with it. The Trangia fits in both of our stoves and clicks into place with our firesticks and Nano sticks. Thanks for watching!
@@fireboxstove Thank you I need to look into a alcohol burner. I'm glad you used different fuels to test.. I've heard the burners will burn any fuel, but I see that's not the case..If a person wants performance.
great video! have u made any testing with the evernew titanium burner? if so, how would you compare it to the toaks burner when used with the firebox nano?
@@fireboxstove yeaht!!! i couldn't wait for reply and called. hehe thanks a lot you guys have a great customer service! also thanks for the video! really helpful!
Hi steve , I think you might have gotten a different result from the trangia if it was also lower down as the heat is in the tip of the flame ( maybe a quicker boil time ) thanks for showing and happy new year 🔥👍
They both fill different needs, they each have their own perks. Just depends on your situation. If all you are doing is boiling water and weight is your biggest concern than Toaks makes more sense, if not then the conveniences of the Trangia make it the best choice.
So you had 2 Toaks stoves with the same amount of fuel, but one burned about two minutes longer. I much prefer the Trangia for many reasons even though it came in last, but not by much. Happy New Year.
It will work in the 5" Firebox as well but you would have to put it on the Adjustable Fire Grate to get it at the right head space. Thanks for watching!!
1:50 Hit the button. Turn off the alarm and the temp will reset. Had you hit the alarm button, the probe would have dropped the instant you pulled it out of the water.
Great test. I would love to see the Trangia stove be tested both "on the floor"as you stated and on the Nano sticks as on this vid. The trangia type stoves are everywhere. Perhaps the Nano sticks for these type of stoves are not the most efficient as in the test of the Siphon Jet stoves. In all honesty, I own two Nano's with the X cases. By far my favorite stove for one/two people. Thanks!
I have done testswith the trangia in 3 different positions within the Nano and you're correct the trangia will boil the water faster when down on the floor of the Nano but burns with more of a blue flame when resting on the Nano Sticks.
Thanks for watching, I am glad you enjoy the videos. We do offer free shipping in the USA over $37 and internationally we only charge what it actually costs to ship the product and we cover a portion of the costs for our customers as well to try and help out.

You need a white lab coat for these videos, lol. Just wondering if you can lower the Trangia to the floor of the Nano for more head space. LOL I’ve never used my Trangia yet. Came close last month but wound up using sticks. Couldn’t tell if that was a sealed (soldiered) Trangia or not. In the end to me it’s splitting hairs. Listen to me People, just buy Firebox stuff and call it a day, you’ll never be disappointed!
When you lower it you will get a bigger flame and faster boil times because heat feedback will be increased. The one inch head space provides a more efficient burn with more blue flame. You should be Outdoors with a slight breeze and see how well they do.
True, that could be helpful!
I think the Firebox would help in that situation. T'would be a goot test, in the open vs in nano...

Are alcohol burners okay to use indoors?
They can be but there are a lot of factors to consider therefore I recommend you consult the manufacturer to know which fuels and or other considerations they recommend.
Thanks for the video! 👍 About the two Toaks - what was the distance between the top of the burner and the bottom of the pot? Thank you 😁

how can 2 identical stoves run out at different times? did someone fill in the wrong amount of fuel?
1/2 ml of added fuel can cause one to burn longer. So can 10 ml of distance to pot.
How much fuel was added to each one?
Are you my friend going to do this with your big Stove stove
No, I'm not planning on it since the trangia alcohol burner is more suited for use in the large stove.
