@@unkindled6410 Yes, but would the Egoista have been hated for being "hideous" if it was not a Lamborghini? That reason the Type 00 doesn't look like any prior Jaguar is because that is the entire point; Jaguar had tried to build cars that paid homage to the Jaguar brand and philosophy in a number of ways: they didn't sell. How can they go bankrupt? They’re part of a $400bn conglomerate. The worst that’ll happen is the brand will go dormant. LR are selling better than ever on the other side.
The Type 00 looks alright from the side, not as ugly as most others think it is. The front and back look rushed. The big problem with this car is that its too minimalistic for no good reason, and there is no Jaguar in this design. Rebranding might have been the only option for Jaguar if they wanted to stay alive, but why do it such that you throw away 100+ years of storied history? Marching into the future without a firm grasp on the past isn't really progressing at all. What Jaguar has done with this concept car and rebrand was get attention. That's it. Nothing to convince me that they will be in a much better state than before in terms of sales.
I think you have a good point, a rebrand was inevitable. They should have done it differently and shown more respect to the past, but the rebrand was going to happen. A lot of people raging about the rebrand are acting like Jaguar had a good thing going and threw it all away, when Jaguar has been in sharp decline for a very, very long time. Change was going to happen. Didn't have to happen like this, that's for sure, but all the nostalgia in this comment section is for a company that hasn't really existed for the last thirty years.
The prototype that’s running around has a very similar outline and big wheels, side mirrors and four doors, it’ll be a 2+2 GT. Of the three production cars that are coming, Jaguar have said the GT will resemble the concept the most.
Doug called it just like I called it. To me the concept is cool. It was the colors and the way they presented it that was weird! The car like Doug said will not look exactly like the concept! Maybe it will have somewhat of a similar shape, but with more of that production look with lights, mirrors and a more normal interior. There are two types of concept cars. You have the Camaro and the Mission E with Porsche where the production car looks 80 percent or more of the concept. Others where it looks nothing like the concept like the Mercedes EQS. Jag will be more like the Mercedes, but sticking a bit closer to the shape.
I don't think it would have been as jarring for people if the concept marketing had led with images of the blue model instead of the pink, the blue looked pretty good. The pink is kinda fun as a concept but no one is going to buy it in that color.
