    I bought a old JD Model B Drill this spring. Planted Oats and grain Sorghum with it. Taped over every other seed drop when planting the grain sorghum _ used Duct Tape.worked great

    $750 is not much for a drill! The last one I bought was $75K and that was for a small one. ruclips.net/video/dh27xHTweCA/видео.html I pulled one like yours behind a JD 720 when I was in 9th grade. You will not need much of a tractor.

  • @ButlerFam
    @ButlerFam 6 лет назад +3

    My dad and grandpa used a drill much older than that with steel wheels! They used it for similar jobs sowing wheat and clover or timothy seed for hay. It was paid for. Lol.

    If it was me I would put a electric actuator on to replace the hydraulic ram. Then do some wiring with the gator and use the gator to run that drill because even the 4020 is a bit overkill for that. On the other hand the 8235r would be good for RUclips views and subs

    Nice old drills. I bought a 8ft John Deere Van Brundt seed drill back in the early 90's. Great drill, paid $500 for it and all it needed was a hydraulic cylinder and some greasing. Still have it. Mine has the double disk openers on it though.

  • @jonathantarrant2449
    @jonathantarrant2449 6 лет назад +1

    Looked old enough to be a VAN Brunt with the galv seed boxes. The seed cups and hoses still looks good shape. I have an old JD LZ B drill, it shares a lot of parts with that drill around the seed box, cups and hoses. Mine is hoe drill type openers instead of discs, and of course has packers wheels at the back, you probably have drag chains. Your JD 4020 won't even notice its back there, when its full.

    I think I have heard you and Travis talk about a farm sale some time ago and I bet it was kind of like an estate sale from the years of your Grandfather's farming. I also bet his grain drill was in that sale and now all three of you wish in hindsight that you hadn't sold it. Don't beat your self up about it because all of us have sold possessions in the past that we wish we had kept. My main one was a 1970 VW Campmobile. The worst thing about it was that it was given to me. :)

    My sister still uses a very old McCormick-Deereing grain drill/grass seeder. It has steel wheels with steel spokes. It has a wooden pole! We usually use a oat/pea mixture for our cover crop. We cut it & use it as silage. We seed alfalfa/timothy/brome grass/red clover mix.

    I know this has probably already been said, but a quick Google search can yield a lot of parts for these old drills. My neighbor gave me a B plain grain drill, still working on it a little at a time to get it just right. Good find! I love seeing old equipment still doing work. Keep it up!

  • @wordlog860
    @wordlog860 5 лет назад

    Oh, a baby drill. We're still a 6 row operation and I remember dad making me vacuum out ours every year to save seed. I remember having so much grief regarding our great plains drill on seed depth. =p
    No joke on old stuff just works. We used to run a 6 row air corn planter (old international back from the 80's or so). It seemed to work better than what we've got now imo.

    Well, that was one thing you didn't have. From the picture Travis had shared, I was guessing it would be a land roller, but obviously, I was wrong. Oh well. I can admit that. While it's not the no-till drill featured in some of your videos from previous years (see: ruclips.net/video/gv8Am0gOgGM/видео.html), it'll do the job and not break the bank. Bonus: it'll be easier than walking around with a hand spreader when you're reseeding those waterways.
