- First time picking popcorn with New Idea 324 corn picker. Pulling with a John Deere 750 with only 20 hp, but it does the job. See other video for a complete walkaround and explanation of how the picker works:

I would love to know how one with the sheller bed would do in popcorn!
That did a lot better than I would have expected. I've got about 10 rows of late-planted popcorn at my house that will be ready in a few weeks. Can i borrow it😊?
Heck yeah, if you come get it, and bring it back when you’re done. When I got that thing 1/3 of the cost was shipping from north central MO, 4 hrs away; it’s a wide load.
Looks like it worked pretty well. Less kernel loss then I would have expected. How do you condition that volume? Assume it's dry enough you don't need elaborate drying?
I lay it on a tarp in the garage with a fan and dehumidifier. I picked it at ~18% moisture and shell it when it gets to 13.5%, for optimal pop quality.
How can buy this machine
I found it on facebook marketplace for $1200 but another $600 for delivery 4 hrs away.
Did you have to modify it at all for the popcorn?
No, not at all.
@@ptnelsonsterdo you have any problem with it damaging ears or ears going through the snapping rolls?
Nice "small holder" setup you have got there Paul! Before you had the Idea 324, how did you pick your popcorn?
Ah, great question. By hand! It took forever!! (there's video in my shorts).
So in 1 year I've advanced my farming practices by 50 years; at that rate next year I'll be picking with a brand new JD combine! :)
Nice job. I love the picker. I definitely would love to find one of those to restore and use. We don’t have too many of those down here in southwest Louisiana.
Do you grow it to sell or personal use?
I sell at the local farmers market. 1200 lbs harvested this fall (after diplodia yield loss) - I love popcorn but I can’t eat that much!! 😊
