  • Lovers' Waltz, by Jay Ungar and Molly Mason, was written in 1985. In this fiddle lesson I show firstly the basic melody, including key change from G to D. I then show a version with detailed ornamentation based on a live concert from 2011 widely available on RUclips.
A free pdf of the sheet music for these versions of Lovers' Waltz is available to subscribers, and there are many more tutorials on old time fiddle waltzes elsewhere on The Fiddle Channel.

Fantastic analysis & attention to detail. Even if you know this tune please listen to the explanation of the arpeggiated chords at 5:38 and the grace notes around 10:54. I've played this for years and still learned a lot. Once again proving Chris is the best!

Thanks, Chris...as opposed to walking my daughter down the aisle on her wedding day next year, I am instead playing her down the aisle with the 'lovers Waltz' so this rendition will be very useful!

Hi Peter. Lovely idea! Just bear in mind that it's a long tune, so you might want to work out an edited version in case the aisle isn't long enough!

Amazing presentation! I had the general tune worked out by watching and copying Jay’s RUclips version but the grace notes were hard to get. You did a fantastic job of showing those “colourings” that add so much flavour to this waltz. Thank you so much for your clear and precise input. I love watching your videos.
